I’ve heard the saying, the days are long and time is short. And I think that’s a really great quote that sums up parenthood.” Sheerr says he loves being a dad, and he thinks he’s become quite good at it too, he adds. But he also is quick to share that he can’t take any parenting credit alone. “Susan is such a great mom. Part of the reason that Emily is such a happy and content baby is because of both of us and the work we put in and the pure joy we feel as a family.” Susan, he says, is his strength and his compass. “Without Susan, I wouldn’t be the dad that I am. June 4th, 2019, to be exact, with Mile One Centre in St. John’s play- ing host to the type of lightning-in-a-bottle sports moment that create ready-made 30- for-30 documentaries and hit-ya-in-the-feels sports dramas. GROWLERS’ HEAD COACH FILE PHOTO For Snowden, a 12 year profession- al hockey veteran turned first year head coach, the dawn of summer 2019 marked one of the more important chapters in his life and career. “I’ve been fortunate enough to have some pretty good sporting memories in my life,” begins Snowden. “But if you add every piece of the story together and it comes to that conclusion? HOME ICE ADVANTAGE With the young and hungry Growl- ers squad already well acquainted with Snowden’s systems, the Newfoundland Growlers went on to win the North Division, earning a first round match- up with divisional rivals the Brampton Beast. It’s a hard thing to get and to be able to do it as a coach, I think is even more gratifying.” THE KELLY CUP The Kelly Cup win on June 4th served as the culmination of a lifetime of chas- ing the big one for Snowden, of embrac- ing the role in his professional career that offers the most immediate and immense satisfaction and of having the right pieces in the right place at exactly the right time. “I tell people all the time, I was a player that loved to play. I loved to play. I loved the game. I never wanted to leave the rink. I just loved to work. And I never got to the NHL, but I was able to sustain a long pro career. And I loved it. EXTENDED ‘OFF-SEASON’ Using this rare extended ‘off-season’ to embrace the milestones and moments of his growing family, Snowden relishes this province and period of his life that have given back in ways deserving of de- cades worth of striving for success. “For me, it’s a really good opportuni- ty to be at home with the family every day. And I don’t miss out on anything. My daughter just turned one and start- ed walking. All those fears you have as a coach and travelling and being on the road that maybe she’ll walk on the day I’m not home.
