Around the College Ballet Workshops by the Australian Ballet Company On Tuesday 19 February Benedict and Bosco students took part in dance workshops with the Australian Ballet Company. Yvette and Ben, members of the Australian Ballet Touring Company of 2019, took two workshops. These workshops consisted of a warm up, stretch, exercises across the floor, learning a piece of choreography entitled ‘Plain Jane’. The piece was about a girl named Jane who didn’t have a care in the world and a King who found materialistic objects like crowns and jewels were the things in life that made him happy. Throughout the piece Jane was trying to show the king that he didn’t need all these fancy things to make him happy and eventually he took off his crown, danced freely without it and discovered that he didn’t need it anymore because he was happy when he was dancing. We also experimented with a creative task where we got to use the piece of choreography that we had learnt but change different aspects of the choreography to make it look like our own. We changed things like the speed, direction or height of the movements and we could add in any moves like leaps or turns. Students who took part in the workshops were also lucky enough to go to Benedict and see the performance of ‘Plain Jane’ danced by two members of the Company. It was amazing to see professional dancers perform and really make the story come alive. I loved both the workshop and the performance and found this experience very inspiring. Thank you to Ms Clarke for organising this amazing experience, it was a lot of fun and something that I hope other students get to experience in years to come. Ella Smart, Year 10 Zak and Cooper stretching Eva and Ave enjoyed the workshop Ayeisha and Meteha perform their routine Another bumper grape harvest on the farm!
