Royal Adelaide Show Commences Salesian Leader’s Conference Friday 30 August Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Salesian Leader’s Conference. Leaders from Salesian schools across Australia gathered in Melbourne to further explore our Salesian history and traditions of our charism. Contemporary educational issues that we face as school communities were discussed and explored. There is a great sense of connection between the Salesian schools. In the coming weeks, this connection is strengthened as we host the Fr Dennis Hanley Cup against Xavier College. Student Absence A reminder that it is important to notify the College if your child is going to be absent. This can be done by calling the Bosco Student Office on 8633 8801 or preferably by texting 0428 475 539. For families planning an absence greater that one school week, legislation requires Principal approval. This must be obtained through the Bosco Student Office prior to the absence. Marc Forster, Deputy Principal, Bosco Campus National Science Week Science Week began this week with the new national theme of ‘Destination Moon: More missions, more science’. With the space program beginning to get up and running in South Australia this gives a great opportunity for students to learn more about what is going on in our State. Bosco has gotten into the spirit by holding a competition to design the best Mars rover or Colony on Mars. Students are encouraged to think outside the box, look at what is important and be creative! This is open to all year levels at Bosco and may even be an opportunity to score some extra Care Group Cup points. Students are also being treated to daily Science Facts in the notices and teachers are getting involved in classrooms using the National Science Week activity book. We can’t wait to see what exciting inventions our students come up with! Liz Boston,Science Coordinator

Bosco Campus Year 12 Dinner Party Year 12 students Tayla, Emerson, Bethany, Ivy, Ginny, Indea, Isabella, Clem, Connor, Lawson, Suzi, Ryan, Isabella, Bailey, Nikita, Blake, Andrew, Mollie and Chelsea On Tuesday 13 August, the Year 12 Food and Hospitality class hosted 40 invited guests Blake with his parents Steve and Tanya Mollie with her Mum Sarah and Ms Ellbourn for the Dinner Party. The Year 12’s worked hard leading up to the night, planning and preparing the menu and trialling their recipes. The Textiles Room was transformed into a dining room and the night was a huge success, with parents and friends enjoying a three course meal prepared by the students. The guests enjoyed a trio of Homemade Dips and Tortillas for entrée, either Chicken Breast stuffed with Sundried Tomato and Bocconcini or Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks with all the sides for main course and the choice of a delicious Passionfruit Panna Cotta or Sticky Date Pudding to finish for dessert. The evening was a huge success, with wonderful compliments about the delicious food and the preparation and clean up all going smoothly. The students were even scored a 10 from MKR’s own Ms Ellbourn and should be very proud of their efforts to make the night a huge success! Bosco Campus Immigration Morning Tea Aboriginal SACE Day Under the guidance of Student Teacher (and Old Scholar!) Ellen Tefanis, Year 8C HASS enjoyed a Four of our Aboriginal students, Xavier, morning tea while learning about ‘Immigration’. Students were invited to bring a sample of food that Georgia, Jayden and TJ attended the SACE would have been eaten by their ancestors in their country of origin. It was a lovely occasion with Aboriginal Student Pathways Roadshow some delightful food from Scotch Eggs to English Scones and Ookcook! here in Port Pirie last week. This was held in conjunction with Adelaide University and TAFE Deb McArthur, HASS Teacher SA. There were a number of fabulous guest speakers including local Aboriginal champions Kriston Thompson, Rubina Hall and Brianna Keenear who engaged the group with stories about their study, work experiences and pathways. Lyn Ellbourn, Indigenous Education Facilitator A morning tea with 8C as part of their learning about immigration Cornish Pasty Picnic Chloe, Natalija, Jessica and Ruby After reading and completing a novel study on ‘That Boy Jack’ Ms Travers English students worked together to make and share cornish pasties. When Connor, Grace, Arlie and I arrived at my house we started making the pasties. I really enjoyed making the pasties with my friends as it is something we had never done before and it was nice to do something different. Throughout the making of the pasties we all laughed so much at each other’s cooking skills, I had a great time. If Connor, Arlie, Grace and I were to make these pasties again we would have used a different recipe for both the filling and the pastry. We would have added sweet potato, peas and corn to the mixture and taken out the turnip. Bella Porta, Year 8C Some good things about this activity was that we all got to meet up and have fun together by Marc and Hayden cooking with each other for the first time. Some bad things were that there were big chunks of pumpkin in the pasty which didn’t taste to fine. Another bad thing was that the Pasties were cold. Some interesting things were that as a group together we haven’t cooked before which might be the reason why I didn’t like the pasties. Blake Hanlon, Year 8C Plus- The positives doing this activity we could hang out and just have some fun while making the Meteha, Chloe and Jesslyn pasties, we could try something new and we can all bond throughout the time making these pasties. Interesting- Something that was interesting is that this recipe was very easy to make and prepare. It didn’t take that long to make and the longest part of the process is waiting for the pasties to cook. Improvement- If I make this again I would season the dough and insides a bit more because it was pretty tasteless and boring - it need another element to make it taste better. Meteha Di Geronimo, Year 8C
