Bosco Campus Celebrating Middle School Visual Arts Bella’s crazy hair self prtrait Liam’s unique plasticine character 2019 has been a busy year so far in the Visual Arts Centre! We welcomed the new Year 7 students to the Bosco Campus. Mrs Tilbrook and Miss Munday’s classes learnt all about the elements of art. Miss Munday’s class analysed Firework artworks identifying their use of colour, line, shape, texture and form as Mrs Tilbrook’s class applied these elements using digital graphics to create Pop Art inspired self-portraits. Both classes have learnt and applied colour theory and painting techniques to develop unique paintings. Miss Munday’s class created bright Keith Haring Pop art paintings, that send a message about an issues in today’s society and Mrs Tilbrook’s class researched and acknowledged connections to the country through Aboriginal inspired aerial paintings. Year 8 Art students have been exploring how to use the elements of art to create the principle of pattern. They combined this with personal symbolism to create a ‘crazy hair’ self-portrait for their folio cover. They have now begun to further explore the elements of texture and form in the 3D Studies unit, with some students expanding on their understanding of pattern in 3-dimensional form. The next few weeks will see them busy constructing their ‘Decorative Clay Word’ and applying their problem-solving skills as they learn the basic techniques of clay hand-building. Year 8 Design students had a technical start to the year developing the ability to draw isometrically. They utilised this skill to draw their name applying the elements of art to identify their Design folio. The ability to sketch design plans isometrically is a technique that is supported in many design courses as it demonstrates 3D aspects of practical plans. Students then moved onto their Folio and Practical assignment where they developed and created unique characters made from plasticine. Students were challenged to come up with 4 different ideas in their folio work, but they created colourful and unique figurines that suited their choice of design brief. Year 9 Visual Art students have learnt about the creative design process and implemented its use in the creation of their folio covers. Surrealism has been our current topic focus, students have completed theory tasks on the origins of surrealism, it’s most prominent artworks and its connection with dreams and the subconscious. Our current project is a surrealist painting, combining two ordinary objects into something surreal! Students will learn basic Photoshop skills in order to combine their objects together, before they begin their paintings. Year 10 Art students completed an Introduction to Photoshop unit at the beginning of the term, where they learnt important Photoshop skills and shortcut keys to make their editing easier. Students are currently nearing the end of a portraiture drawing unit, with their final artworks being A3 Mixed Media Portraits. Year 10 Design students have researched a design career of their choice and applied art principles to explore how they affect the final products. Students will continue to develop their knowledge of their chosen career in design by developing their own practical work in the term ahead.
