37 Q& A with RecorruptorMMU: How did the band form and what inspired the name?Dustin: It all started with me when I was about 14 going around playing bars with my friends under the name Rotting Inside. The name changed soon after, Clint joined, then shortly Seth did. That’s when you can say it actually started. The name isnothing special from what I remember, just something we thought of that sounded really cool!MMU: What musicians or bands have influenced you?Clint: We generally take influence from all aspects of death metal. Specifically, some of our favorite bands include The BlackDahlia Murder, Cattle Decapitation, Fallujah, Aborted, Behemoth, and a lot of old school death metal like Suffocation, Im-molation, and Cannibal Corpse.MMU: Can you describe what your writing process is like?Seth: I just kind of hit record and noodle around on the guitar and see what I like.Dustin: We usually write with guitars, from the beginning until the end, piecing the puzzle together.Clint: One of us tends to have an idea for something to bring to the table, and the rest of us expand on it using our own stylesand ideas. Starts with one, finishes with all of us. I think that’s what gives us a flavorful sound. What’s the overall theme of the new album “BloodMoon”?Clint: There really isn’t a lyrical theme that I had in mind when writing this album. The general connection between all thesongs is that they’re all fast, heavy, and deadly. 45 minutes of our own brutality.MMU: How long did the new album take to write and record?Seth: The recording took about a month to complete. Most writing had been done before I was even in the band. Some ideasstayed, some went, and some were done a couple months before recording.Dustin: It probably took a year and a half to get the songs where they are now.Are you doing anything special for the CD release show? More specifically, will the new album be performed from frontto back?Clint: Yes, BloodMoon will be performed from start to finish. The lineup is sick, the merchandise is going to be sick, and wehave a few cool things up our sleeves that should excite and surprise.Dustin: We might even pull out a cover or two. You never know what to expect from us!MMU: Besides the CD release show. What else is on the books and confirmed?Seth: Only one show in the books so far after the release, but we have a lot planned for promotion of the album.Any tours coming up in the future?Clint: No touring booked as of now, but we do plan on doing touring in 2018.Seth: We have talked about doing a little run with our buds in Bog Wraith. We will see!Where is your favorite out-of-state venue and why? (If you have done out of state shows.) What about in-state?Alex: We haven’t played out of state yet, but my favorite in-state venue has to be The Token Lounge in Westland.

38That one holds special meaning to me because it was my first gig, not only with the band, but my first ever gig.Dustin: Mac’s Bar in Lansing. Hometown love is always good!Clint: For the atmosphere, always Mac’s Bar. Can’t beat the hole-in-the-wall asses-and-elbows style shows. However, bestsound definitely goes to the Music Factory in Battle Creek. Great staff, too! What state or country do you hope to one day perform in?Dustin: Personally, I’d love to go to Japan. Their fascination with underground music is huge. Europe would be cool too, es-pecially with our drummer Josh having already toured there.Clint: I want to see a crowd in Brazil. Their love for metal is underrated and unmatched. What’s the funniest or craziest thing you’ve seen at a show or on stage?Clint: Nothing will beat my old band’s show with The Contortionist with King 810. If you guys know about King and howtheir hardcore fan base was when they were still a local band, you didn’t mess with them. Long story short, ended with venuestaff getting beaten with a baseball bat, lots of fighting and blood, thirteen cop cars and the fire Marshall closing the wholeshow down before the nationals played. Seth: I remember one time I saw Dillinger Escape Plan. I knew their shows wereinsane so nothing really surprised me there, with the exception of this one hipster looking dude just dancing by popping, locking and being weird as hell in the middle of the pit. That was funny as hell.MMU: What newer Michigan Metal bands have you seen lately that you think more people should check out?Clint: I speak for all of us when we say the bands you need to check out are Bog Wraith, Dead Hour Noise, Carnis Immor-talis, Hate Unbound, The Revenant, Drink Their Blood, A Sleepless Malice, Withhold the Blood, Centenary, and Tomb ofTeeth. Lots more, but that would take days.MMU: If you could go on a world tour with any bands of your choosing what 3 bands would you choose?Clint: My favorite tour just to party and jam with these dudes every night would be The Black Dahlia Murder, Aborted, andOrigin. Seth: Emperor (highly unlikely), Abbath, and The Black Dahlia Murder. Cattle Decapitation would be a great wild-card.Alex: That’s a hard one. I’d probably have to choose Gojra, Cannibal Corpse, and Obscura.Dustin: Beyond Creation/Fallujah, Origin, and Dying Fetus. All day, every day. Let the heavies HIT.
