MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR It gives me great pleasure to give my best wishes to “ IConnect ”, a newsletter from Department of Instrumentation & Control Engineering of Institute of Technology The students and faculties of department are always proactive in taking initiatives in technical, cultural and social events.I am sure that this newsletter will serve the purpose of reflecting all activities of dept. and it will inspire others to do their best. Wishing you all the very best . I congratulate the staff and students of all faculties who used various mediums of expression to present their ideas. As long as our ideas are expressed & thoughts kindled we can be sure of learning, as everything begins with an idea .I appreciate every student who shared the joy of participation in co-curricular and extracurricular activities along with their commitment to curriculum.That little extra we do, is the icing on the cake. “Do more than belong – participate. PREFACE Newsletter acts as a communication channel among the alumni, faculty,students & experts in Instrumentation and Control Engineering. I am very glad and proud in bringing this newsletter “ IConnect ” about the latest developments in the department. The ecstasy & practice shared in our depart- -ment guarantee the growth & development of the overall personality of the students.It is good to notice interesting events taking shape frequently in the department in spite of current pandemic situation. All of us are equally happy to witness the accomplishments of significant events and tremendous achievements. I wish to convey my heartiest congratulations to those who have brought glories to the dept.I appreciate all of you for working together as a team. FROM THE DESK OF HOD Greetings from the Instrumentation and Control Engg. Department, a versatile interdisciplinary branch of engineering ! The world is going through a tremendous transformation and we want to be part of this change utilizing our core strengths as an Instrumentation engineer who can work in various fields like automation, process control, advanced sensors, robotics, machine learning, soft computing techniques, artificial intelligence, cyber security , biomedical instrumentation , industrial networkingLoremipsum and many more . The next era will be of automation and, for sure, will be governed by the instrumentation professionals. We are always striving to provide the best facilities to our students through sound theoretical knowledge and exposure to recent technologies through industrial visits, expert talks and various project competitions. The department is constantly on the move by organizing workshops, semi- -nars, and handson sessions to improve the practical aspects of a student’s learning process. The department works with commitment and resolves to keep the laboratories updated and well-developed, to adopt innovative teaching methodologies and thus to impart quality education. An excellent academic ambiance with highly motivated faculty complemented with a wide variety of co-curricular activities provide a holistic approach to the development of students. MOU / Industrial collaboration signed by the Department (Consultancy / Testing) MoU with Mitsubishi Electrical India Pvt. Ltd . is signed on 19/02/2014. Under this MoU department is organising various training programs for academicians and/or personnel working in the industries.As a part of MOU department have Mitsubishi Sponsored Factory Automation laboratory with latest Industrial Automation related equipment like Q PLC Training Set up, FX PLC Training Set up, iQR Training Set up kit, Robot trainer Kit etc.

List of Activities under MOU Activities carried out during the year under existing MoUs : ATC training on \"MELSEC iQ-F PLC\" - 4th - 5th June 2021 . Two days online training programme on “MELSEC iQ-F PLC” was conducted by the ATC ( Authorized Training Centre ) Mitsubishi Electric India Pvt. Ltd, Institute of technology Nirma university , Ahmedabad, Gujarat. There was total 67 participants on the first day and 46 participants on the second day of the training.The participant group compriseof students and staff of Mechanical , Electronics and Communication , Chemical engineering andInstrumentation and Control engineering department. All the technical sessions were conducted by Mr. Manish Chauhan, Mitsubishi Electric India Pvt. Ltd, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. During the training programme basic of FX series PLC covered along with GX works 3 software platform. Participants were interactive throughout the programme and they have participated in the training very enthusiastically. The various queries from participants have been solved by the expert.

ACHIEVEMENTS BY THE FACULTY Dr. H. K. Patel received International Award of \" EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION ’ by International Society of Automation - ISA, for the year October 2020. ACHIEVEMENTS BY THE STUDENTS ISA Scholarship Award Winners Every year ISA grants scholarships to bright minds for their contribution in the field of automation and to the growth of ISA Students Chapter in their institute.It is a global level scholarship & the society receives nominations from across the globe. Six students from the Instrumentation and Control Engineering Department of Institute of Technology, Nirma University secured scholarships worth USD 9725, from the International Society of Automation (ISA), USA. The recipients can utilise the amount to support their education expenses like fees, books, project overheads, etc. The Department congratulates Ms. Somya Gupta (2000 USD) and Ms. Devanshi Parmar (2000 USD) for receiving the ISA Education Foundation Scholarships . In addition to these , congratulations to Ms. Urja Patel ( 1400 USD ) , Ms. Devanshi Parmar ( 1000 USD) , Mr Aditya Mistry (750 USD),Mr. Prashant Somaiya ( 750 USD ) on being therecipients of the scholarships from PMCD Divisionof ISA, Mr Devansh Rana ( 825 USD) on being the recipients of the ISA Analysi Division’s Scholarship, and Ms Urja Patel (1000 USD) on being the recipients of the Chemical and Petroleum Industries Division Scholarship. To be eligible for ISA scholarship one has to be a member of the ISA Students Chapter in their Institute/University,should contribute to the growth of the society and have a fair academic record

ACTIVITIES OF IC-ENGINEERING STUDENTS ASSOCIATION

Felicitation programme for ISA scholarship winners . ISA, Students’ Chapter, Nirma Institute of Technology was delighted to organize a Felicitation programme for ISA scholarship recipients where some profound personalities in the eld of Automation, Shri Jagdish Shukla – Vice President of Image and Membership Department, Dist. 14 also owner of Servilink Systems Ltd , Shri Rajesh Rathi – Vice President, Dist. 14, ISA, also President, Control Infotech. Shri Sanjeev Chaudhari – President ISA Gujarat State India Section, also Managing Director of GIPITRONIX Pvt. Ltd. and Shri Pramod Parikh were present as guests. The program was conducted for third, fth and seventh semester students of Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering through Google meet . The guests started the program with the launch of MagIC 16th edition by Shri Jagdish Shukla. The guests briefed students about various Students Welfare Program conducted by ISA and encouraged students to join ISA by discussing the resources of ISA so that they can avail the bene ts o ered by ISA. They also motivated students to apply for the ISA Scholarships and stay connected to the community of ISA. The guests felicitated the recipients of ISA Scholarships. They talked on leadership, Standards Committee, SAIT , Indian Automation games and Industry cyber security . All ISA o ce bearers of ISA Gujarat section , ISA Gujarat Student Section Advisors, and all the faculty members of IC department were invited for this event. .

Teachers Day Celebration . On the occasion of teachers’ day, ISA student chapter IT, NU organized a virtual program for all the beloved faculty members of the IC department like every year. The event was graced by all eleven faculties and 100+ attendees. First we took blessings of goddess Saraswati. The program then kicked o with “ The Aditya Show ” in which students gave a glimpse of what happens in classes of each faculty, bringing to stage nuances, the diversity and strengths of each personality. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the faculties. Next in line was a poem conveying our latent feelings towards our respected professors . It was followed by a fun quiz which brought along with it many stories , unknown truths and a complete rollercoaster of memories. The program went well and we were glad we could conduct it amidst the lockdown. .

Webinar on Block Chain and its foundation . The webinar was organized by ISA student chapter ITNU on the occasion of Foundation day (Silver Jubilee celebration). It was a webinar on blockchain and its foundation Mr. Nikhil Shah Sir (A very prominent personality in this eld) was the guest speaker. The faculties of the IC department and the students summed up to a total of about 67 attendees. The hosts kick started the webinar with wishing all the attendees and gave a brief introduction of the guest speaker. Mr. Nikhil Shah Sir covered Cryptographic hashing , Blockchain based Wallets , Addresses and Security with practical examples & demonstrations to make the audience understand easily . The speaker also cleared doubts of the attendees. AtLoremipsum the end, the hosts gave the vote of thanks to the guest speaker for sharing such a wonderful information. .

Spill Some Ink . A short tale/ poetry writing competition was organized amidst the lockdown, going on a virtual platform entirely. It was conducted on 3rd October 2020, on the occasion of Silver Jubilee Celebration and 26th Foundation Day of ITNU. The guest and judge of the event was Dr Vaibhav Shah, Associate Professor of English, School of liberal Studies, PDPU. The event was also graced by Dr H K Patel. The event witnessed 35+ attendees. The themes for the competition were •First Sight / Pehli Mulaqat •Dream / Khwab •RestrictionsLoremipsum / Bandishe There were 50+ submissions and 17 were shortlisted for nals where they had to present their work. E-certi cates were given to all participants. The winner Rahil Soni (poetry),was awarded with cash prizes of Rs 500. Runners up position was secured by Ishwa Shah (poetry) who received a cash prize of Rs 300. Meet Vora secured 1st position in short tale and was awarded with cash prize of Rs.200. .

Online workshop on Industrial Cybersecurity . ISA- Students Chapter, Nirma University on behalf of the Instrumentation and Control department, organized a two-day long online workshop on “Industrial Cybersecurity”, which was conducted on 5 - 6th January 2021. The workshop was sponsored by the Gujarat Council on Science & Technology, Department of Science & Technology , Government of Gujarat. The event was conducted in the presence of Dr. R. N. Patel , Director Institute of Technology , Nirma University, and Shri Jagdish Shukla , Vice President of Image and Membership department, ISA District 14 and owner at Servilink systems Limited. The event also took place in the presence of some of the most diligent faculty membersLoremipsum of the Instrumentation & control department, Institute of Technology, Nirma University namely- Dr. J.B. Patel (Head of the Department), Dr. H.K. Patel (chair - student a airs, ISA District 14) and Dr. Ankit Sharma (Faculty Advisor, ISA SCNU). The two-day long workshop had very enlightening sessions on both the days conducted by some of the esteemed Industry experts.

Online workshop on Industrial Cybersecurity . The rst day of the workshop was organised by Mr. Prashant AC, who is a highly experienced professional in the eld of Information security, has multiple valuable certi cations and is presently working as the product and solutions security expert at Siemens. He covered topics with an introduction to OT/IACS/IIOT and IT/OT convergence and Cybersecurity. On the second day, Mr. Nikhil hosted the morning session. He is the founder of Cilans Systems and a mentor at Vnurture Technologies. He enlightened the students about the Role of Arti cial intelligence/Machine learning in the future of Cyber Security. Lorem ipsum In the afternoon session, Mr. Rohit Sharma, who is a security researcher and trainer, certi ed ethical hacker, and a certi ed eccouncil instructor took over and talked on many topics such as understanding of Malware, Burpsuite, Web Application & VAPT, SQL injection, cross-site scripting, Android and wireless Hacking, Cybercrimes, etc.

Online workshop on Industrial Cybersecurity . Great enthusiasm was shown by the students. Around 60 Students from di e- -rent branches of Nirma University as well as of di erent colleges along with some industry professionals participated in the workshop. It was a fruitful experience for the participants as it had proper theoretical explanation about the topics, practical demonstrations, and exciting hands - on practice. We expect many such great workshops & events coming up further organised by the ISA Student’s Chapter, Nirma University. Lorem ipsum

Social Event at Prakash School, Ahmedabad . The evening of 26th February 2021 found the students of Nirma University along with Prof Ankit Sharma and Prof H. K. Patel and in the pristine environs of Prakash School for the Intellectual disability - Boys in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. ISA - Student Chapter Nirma university conducts a visit every year since the last ve years to interact with the specially abled students by organizing a fun and joyful event for the students of Prakash School. The ISA chapter actively contributes to the society through its social activities. Due to the Covid Pandemic, year 2019-20 witnessed a hindrance in the tradition, overcoming thatLoremipsum ISA conducted a visit this year on 26th February, 2021 led by Prof Ankit Sharma and Prof H.K.Patel along with the ISA SCNU student members. Supported mainly by voluntary donations, and occasional selling of the productsmade by the students, Prakash students are given vocational training in preparing doormats, o ce le, envelope making, candle-making & training in art & craftsby their teachers. The children also engage in music, sports and cultural activities. The children are provided with hostel facilities, free food, bedding and clothing.

Social Event at Prakash School, Ahmedabad . Followed by a walk to the dining room where the dinner commenced after the prayer. Prof Ankit Sharma and Prof H.K. Patel showed gratitude by serving the students with dinner. ISA members interacted with the students who were courteous towards the visitors. The sta guided the Nirma university students to the hostel rooms to display the cleanliness and the living conditions of their students. Prakash sta proudly displayed the institution and wholeheartedly welcomed the Nirma students to contribute in their noble practice. The event ended with a little sum donated by ISA SCNU through the auspicious hands of our professors and a promise to continue the bonds between ISA Nirma universityLoremipsum and Prakash School for the Intellectual Disability.

Alumni Interaction . On 16th March 2021, we had a very insightful Instagram live session with our alumni from the batch of 2020. The alumni was Mr. Haard Mehta. The Live session was held on the Instagram Account of ISA Student’s Chapter, Nirma University. More than 40 people had joined the live session. In the session, we had a question- answer type talk, so that it could bene t the students by getting their doubts clari ed. Various topics were covered in the talk. The talk started with the alumni introduction. This area included about his educational background and his academic past at Nirma University. The second segment, includedLoremipsum the alumni sharing his experience with ISA SCNU. He told about the various events that took place, he explained what kind of events were held. This enlightened the juniors about the events, activities and competitions that were organized by ISA SCNU, in the past. In the third segment, the alumni talked for his juniors. He explained, how ISA SCNU, can help them as an organization, if they get engaged with it . Many of the doubts which the juniors had in their minds, were clari ed in this segment. In the fourth segment, Mr. Haard Mehta talked about how ISA has helped him in growing as an individual, and all other bene ts that he got after he got engaged with ISA SCNU. He gave a thorough and an insightful talk on this topic as well. And then nally we had the conclusion part, where we talked winded up the session Mr. Haard Mehta addressing on various topics

ICE BREAKER - Orientation Event An orientation cum informal. session for the freshers by ISA-SCNU on Thursday, 18th March 2021. The session started with the hacks and tips to survive the life at Nirma & make the best out of it. Freshers haven't had the chance to interact with their seniors and batch mates because of the constant closure of the college. So this event was exclusively organised to bridge the gap between seniors and juniors. The second half of the session was dedicated to introducing the students to the prestigious International Society of Automation. They were given insights on opportunities presented by ISA and how being part of various technical divisions, training, workshops willLoremipsum help them not only in their college life, butin their entire career. There was a small ice breaking activity that was conducted in the end to break the ice between freshers and get them to interact with their batchmates.The event was hosted by Prashant Somaiya(Vice President, Head- Honors and Awards) & Devanshi Parmar (Program Chair) along with the support of Board Member Committee of ISA SCNU and more than 85 students from various branches of Institute of Technology, Nirma University participated and interacted in the event.

SYZITO - Group Discussion Competition An online group discussion competition was organized by ISA-SCNU on Sunday, 21st March 2021. With cut-throat competition governing placements in most colleges, recruit ers often use group discussion as a tool to shortlist s tudents. The event aimed at giving a mock up of it to the students and help them prepare better. The event was free for ISA members and paid for non-ISA members. 30+registrations were received in total. There were four tracks ● Cybersecurity and impact of industrial attacks ● Indian Economy- what's the way ahead? ● New Digital laws, use of Data and Privacy ● Should India follow Canadian government policy? Each discussion lasted 30 minutes.Judges provided their valuable feedback & insights which helped participants identify their strengths & weaknesses. The judges for the non-technical tracks were Dr. Paramasivan S . Vellala, NITIE fellow, Assistant Professor,Department of Mathematics &Humanities, ITNU and Pronoy Singha, MA in English Literature, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics and Humanities,ITNU. For technical tracks the judges were Professor Pooja Shah AssistantProfessor in Department of Computer Science & Engineering, ITNU and Professor Sharada Valiveti, Assistant Professor in Department of Computer Science and Engineering, ITNU All participants were given certificates Winners were awarded with cash prizes worth INR 1200. The event was hosted by Urja Patel (General - Secretary) and Aditya Mistry (President).More than 50students of Institute of Technology, Nirma University participated and witnessed the event.

Webinar series “PLACEMENT PREPS” . The representatives of ISA Students’ Chapter, NIRMA University had organised a series of webinars “ PLACEMENT PREPS ”. The series comprised of three webinars namely: 1) Profile Building 2) Campus To Corporates 3) Soft-Skill Development The motive of the series was to give an outlook to the attendees who plan on embarking their journey in the corporate world. The speakers who presented were spotless and cleared every query which was upholded by the attendees. Day 1 The keynote speaker for the day was Mr Rohan Garg, alumnus of IIM Calcutta and Nirma University. He is currently the founder director Of ICE GATE and GATEFLIX. He talked over certaintopics for profile building which included, how to build a profile, take up internships, uplift your extracurricular. He also threw some light on how to progress with a career ahead. This session guided the attendees on their journey with profile building. 31

Webinar series “PLACEMENT PREPS” . Day 2 The guest speaker for the day was Ms. Neha Chaudhary who is a NLP and access bars trainer. She had a good- humoured affable personality & delivered a graceful presentation. During the presentation she interacted with the attendee making it a very lively event Moreover she focused upon communication skills which is a vital tool in the corporate world. In the end she unravelled that not only technical skill but communication is also an integral part of everyone’s life. . 32

Webinar series “PLACEMENT PREPS” Day 3 The chief speaker for the day was Mr Ahaan Malhotra who is the founder of Edudictive and has delivered 150+ sessions and helped more than 3800 students in their corporate journey. During his speech, he had focused on the core of soft skill development of an individual. His session was very informative and unlocked several mind barriers regarding soft skill. He was truly an outstanding speaker when it came to vocabulary, tone, intonations etc. Summing up his session, it was very learning oriented and interesting. 33
