5 | A MESSAGE FROM OUR SENIOR PASTOR Imagine a time when we are no longer able to gather as a church for public worship--a day when the church and its leadership and ministries are no more. How prepared would each of us feel to continue pursuing the mission Christ has called us to? In 1917, Christians in Russia faced this reality. When Lenin and his Marxist regime came into power during the Russian revolution, they shut down public worship services, imprisoned or killed the pastors and took control of church assets. The people didn’t know where to turn, how to continue growing spiritually or make disciples and, consequently, the church in Russia diminished greatly and almost died. In 1949, the same thing happened to the church in China under the communist regime of Mao Zedong. However, years earlier, the church established small groups and equipped their people to study and to hear God through the Scriptures, to pray and care for one another, to share their faith and to make disciples. Subsequently, rather than experiencing significant decline like the church in Russia, the church in China grew dramatically from an estimated 2 million people to close to 100 million today. These two examples from church history are instructive to us today. While we celebrate the freedom we have to gather for worship and be built up and encouraged in our faith, we recognize we may not always have this freedom. However, even if it is never taken away, we are committed as a church to following the example of the early church and the church in China---to PREPARE God’s people to BE the church Christ calls us to be---in Jesus’ words, ‘to make disciples.’ Making disciples involves more than passing on biblical truth; it also involves passing on a way of life---Christ followers who are passionately pursuing God and together with a small group of others are intentionally inviting and challenging one another to learn what it means to hear from Jesus, to love and live like Jesus and to respond to His assignments. This is our vision as a church. Even though we have experienced financial challenges this last year, God is still on the move and we have so much to celebrate as a church family, some of which is documented in this annual report. Join us in giving thanks to God for all He has done and pray with us that God would continue to pour out grace upon grace. And together, let’s look forward to the future with expectant hope as we love God, love each other and love our world. May God bless you and our church as we continue to faithfully pursue the mission He has called us to. In Him, Henry
A MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD | 6 As a Board, we believe that God has chosen Centre Street Church for Himself as a place where His people gather to and disperse from, in order to do His work of making disciples locally, nationally and internationally. As we reflect over the past ministry year, it is humbling and inspiring to see what God has accomplished through Centre Street Church. The following stories are a great celebration of the many examples where we can tangibly see God working; how many more examples are there that we can’t see?! We look forward to hearing more stories over the coming months and years. The Board continues to work closely with Pastor Henry and the Executive Leadership Team, as we all seek to make wise and prudent decisions which allow Centre Street Church to continue to thrive as one church in many locations. As a Board, we are committed to becoming better disciples individually so we can best guide Centre Street Church in its mission of introducing people to Jesus and helping people become fully devoted followers of Christ. It is an honour to serve on the Board and we are thankful to you, our members, for entrusting us with this responsibility. Sincerely, Teresa Davidson on behalf of CSC Board of Directors, Angie Redecopp | Kira DeVries | Brenton Cox | Teresa Davidson | Barima Dankwa | Michelle Bonnier
7 | PURSUE GOD PURSUE GOD Our highest value is to know God and to grow in our faith personally and in our homes. As individuals, families and a small group of friends, we will practice the presence of Jesus on a moment-by-moment basis, seeking His wisdom and direction, responding obediently to His assignments and calling on Him for His help in all things, knowing that unless the Lord is with us, our labours are in vain.

I listened to the sermons to learn about God. I joined a small group. I have been greatly impacted by Pastor Henry’s sermons. When I would leave church, I felt that I had received insight on something that had been on my mind. My life has changed since becoming a Christian, as I feel wiser. I feel that I understand more about the world, people and why things happen. I try to live an obedient life. I want to be pleasing to God, and I am thankful that God loved me. I am thankful for the trials I have endured because I learned a lot. God showed me where I needed to work in my life, and He protected me. I am thankful He blessed me with children. To me, baptism means I am confirming my love for God. Because God loves me, I guess it is my way of showing that I love Him too.” Melinda CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES AT ALL CAMPUSES Check out cschurch.ca/baptisms for more stories or info on baptisms. 716 483 PRAYER-FOCUSED Central Campus has increased 10% over the PER WEEKEND EVENTS WITH last year and is nearing capacity in some PEOPLE IN services. NOW SERVICES | 10 STARTED OCTOBER 2015 - A SERVICE FOR YOUTH, YOUNG ADULTS AND THE YOUNG AT HEART Our vision for the Night of Worship (NOW) is to unite all of our youth, young adults and young at heart from all of our campuses to honour and give praise to our God through singing, prayer, art, Bible teaching, baptisms and testimonies of Christ’s transforming work among us. God is seeking true worshippers who understand that anything hindering them from worshipping Him fully and freely has been removed through Christ’s work on the Cross. When the church gathers together expectantly in one place to worship our Lord in spirit and in truth, God is glorified, and God’s people are strengthened individually and together as the body of Christ. Our prayer for this next year is that we will continue to come together, earnestly seeking the promised presence of God—the God who is near, the God who is active and the God who breaks into the present. We also pray that we will come expecting to encounter Him and hear from Him, leaving more deeply in love with Him and more committed to worshipping Him all day long by living a life on mission. We invite you to join us for NOW on the first Sunday of every month at 6:00 pm, Central Campus. Jonathan Schorr, CORE Lead Worship Pastor

17 | PURSUE GENEROSITY PURSUE GENEROSITY Our hearts break over the things that break the heart of God. Therefore, we are committed to being the hands and feet of Jesus by being generous with our time, finances, abilities and spiritual gifts to accomplish the mission God has called us to as individuals, families and as a church in our city, nation and world. “As many individuals and organizations in our city and province have seen, the past twelve to eighteen months have been marked by very difficult economic circumstances. As a church we want to be sensitive to these realities and understand that we also live in the same economic environment. In the 2015/16 Fiscal Year we had budgeted for an increase in giving of 10% over the previous year’s actual giving. Understanding that this was an aggressive target, we entered the year by being very cautious in our spending and were intentional in carefully monitoring month-to-month giving. It became clear, after February of 2016, that the goals we had set were not going to be met. Therefore, we made some very difficult but necessary changes including staffing cutbacks, salary rollbacks and ministry budget reductions as we looked forward to the 2016/17 fiscal year. We are very grateful for the fact that, in Ministry and Missions giving, we actually saw an increase in giving of about 2.8% over the 2014/15 fiscal year. That is cause for praise and gratitude. With the knowledge that we had budgeted at a 10% increase level, the Bible promises that God will provide for everything we need. Thank you for your ongoing and generous support of the ministry and vision of Centre Street Church.” Terry Busch, Pastor of Finance & Stewardship Giving Trend as % of 2015 -2016 Budget 110.0% 105.2% 105.3% 105.0% BUDGET 100.0% 100.4% 98.0% TREND 95.0% 93.3% 89.8% 93.5% 90.0% 91.8% 90.4% 86.5% 85.0% 85.8% 80.0% 75.0% 73.1% 70.0% July August September October November December January February March April May June

PURSUE SIMPLICITY| 20 PURSUE SIMPLICITY We are committed to uncluttering our lives so that we have margin to hear God, to pray and advance His mission. We are committed to living more simply in order to have more resources to advance God’s kingdom and meet the needs of the less fortunate in our city, nation and world. “Simplicity is the currency of hope that the Kingdom of Heaven trades in. “The key I feel is your identity in Christ. GOD AT WORK IN OUR CAMPUSES | 22 AIRDRIE CAMPUS one church, As I reflect on the past ministry year at Airdrie Campus, I am reminded of the great people that make up this community. Each year our relationships with God and each other grow our sense of community and mission. When I think about what I love the most about my job, the answer is ALWAYS many locations... people. Over and over again I have witnessed a love for God and a love for others that has been and is contagious. As our families continue to press in to what they hear God saying to them and respond, I have heard many stories of life change through the following ways: food hampers, serving at the Airdrie Food Bank, partnering with Stephen’s Backpacks, making meals for families in need, helping neighbours with yard work, countless coffees to encourage and pray for AIRDRIE friends, hosting block parties to create community, families hiking together, serving together, and more. Pastor Travis Wilkins NORTHWEST The driving force for all of this has been the deepened sense of spiritual hunger that is growing at our campus. It’s been Pastor Lawson Brown amazing to hear stories of life change as people are CENTRAL encountering God and finding freedom.
