So You Want to be a Dictator? A dictator is someone who wants to have power and have control of a country's economy and wants the government to rule over the people. An Historic example of this would be Hitler. Hitler promised to give what the people of Germany needed. The people were desperate for his promises and what he could do for them. Once Hitler got power he used secret police to prevent people from spreading thing he didn't like about him. Hitler also used them to seek what the people were trading and he also controlled the mail. A modern example would be Kim-Jong-Un. Kim Jong-un brainwashed the children attending schools in North Korea. This strong dictator keeps pictures and paintings of him and the “strongest and biggest army in the world” of all of the walls throughout the school. Doing this makes the kids think he is the great person that they should worship and treat as if they were their god. Promoting the military also gets kids inspired to join the army which supports him at the same time.

People start seeing the laws are being changed for the better and the “dictator’ starts getting more attention and people start following them.

Tips and Tricks to Getting Your Power Dictators use propaganda to keep or get power because it convinces the audience which is the people that something is the right way or something is the bad way and they can get people to think they are the best choice for them or something the dictator like will convince the people that it is good. A historic example would be Stalin. Stalin used propaganda to initiate a campaign that showed the public how close he was with its deceased leader Vladimir Lenin. In reality, Lenin did not like Stalin. A more modern example would be Vladimir Putin. Putin made the people of Russia dislike the Ukrainians. He repeated over and over about how they failed at russian things.

How to Keep Your Power - Step 1 Dictators censor information that would hurt them or effect their power and could put it at risk. They do this so the people don't see it as a bad thing and so they would look better and the people would think that they are doing good things for them. A historic example of this from Napoleon would be that he censored the papers by only showing his wins and not including his losses to other countries. A more modern example from Baschar al-Assad is that he is convincing people to join the war through facebook and twitter and is spreading the word throughout Syria.

How to Keep Your Power - Step 2 Dictators use many methods to brainwash children and citizens in their country that are under rule by them. They do things to prepare them for things that the dictator thinks is good and that he wants them to do for him. A historic example would be Hitler. He used a system that would prepare children for the nazi organization and it would teach them how to become a member of the military. They make their people think that they are the greatest and have them seeing their face all the time in buildings, they made an army and promised the people money. A modern example would be Kim Jong-Un. He has military pictures in their schools and pictures of him to worship him. The people are always seeing their military which increases nationalism and seeing their leaders face non stop makes them think they are amazing and the greatest.

How to Keep Your Power - Step 3 Dictators usually resort to force or fraud to gain despotic political power, which they maintain through the use of intimidation, terror, and the suppression of basic civil liberties. An historic example would be Adolf Hitler. He was a nazist and hated the jews and cause one of the most deadliest and tragic events in history known as the holocaust. Hitler uses fear to control his people and put fear into jews and control them. The people don't want to be on their bad side and they will agree with everything they say to not get hurt. A more modern example would be Baschar al-Assad, he used poison gas against his own people which is a crime and a war crime and that is when the US bombed their chemical facilities. He is scaring and killing his people which would make people scared to oppose him and be against him the for they will agree with everything they say.

How to Keep Your Power - Step 4 If your wanting to keep your power in a different way then here you go. Dictators can torture their own people and their enemies that can put fear into their lives and make them fear you or the dictator. They can torture enemies to get them to say something or they can punish then and take their lives away. A historic example to show how a dictator torture people because of reasons is hitler. Adolf Hitler gassed the jewish people and tricked them by saying they were going to take showers, and killed them in the shower. This helped Hitler control the jews and control his power because the people in Germany were desperate, they would do anything to prevent them from doing that. And a modern example that shows this is from Bashar-al-Assad. He used chemicals and poison on his own people as a test for his illegal war weapons. They used this as a test for their weapons but also they prolly did it to scare the people and to remind them he is powerful.

How to Keep Your Power - Step 5 Dictators can also use their own police or army to invade their own people and make sure nothing that they don't like is going around. They can control the people and major crowds and they can imprison people that oppress the leader and don’t listen. A historic example for this would be Hitler. His police force was used to watch the people and control what was being delivered to other people (mail). They were used to prevent and leaks or information that Hitler didn't like or was about his in a negative way. They prevent the people from seeing things that could affect their power which is called censoring. A more modern example would be Muhammad bin Salman. His army and military is used for defense and their job is to protect him and his power. They are the people that protect their country and the influence many people which they see the army support their leader.

How to Keep Your Power - Step 6 Dictators use Propaganda to increase and keep their power by making the people agree with something that they like or want to happen. They use this to encourage the people that something is better thuis wat or this is better than that. An historic example would be from Stalin. Stalin received massive media attention, and soon enough he began being portrayed as the 'all-knowing leader' by the Soviet propagandists. A modern example would be from Vladimir Putin. He turned Russians against Ukrainians. He did this because he didn't want them to have any part of russian in them. He convinced the Russian people by saying that they didn't deserve the them and that they did not like Russia

How to Keep Your Power - Step 7 Dictators sensor and control the social media in their country because they don't want their people to see their bad side and what things they are doing that is bad. They don't want them seeing anything that could ruin or hurt their power. An example of this would be Kim Jong Un. He doesnt let the people use facebook and twitter. The people there don't even know what facebook is or any social media. If they have social media it’s all about their great leader and his army.

How to Keep Your Power - Slide 8 Nationalism is the pride you have for your county and the things you would do for it. A genocide is a mass killing of a specific group of people. A good example of a genocide is the holocaust that hitler had with the jews. Ethnic conflict a form of conflict in which the objectives of at least one party are defined in ethnic terms, and the conflict, its antecedents, and possible solutions are perceived along ethnic lines. Dictators use aggression to keep their power by threats and torture. A historic example would be Hitler. He didn't like the jews and in fact he tortured them and killed them and before her did that he used them as slaves to work in concentration camps. A modern example would be Kim Jong Un. He used missile threats to the US to keep power and to scare the US people and to let them know that they think they are the best.

How to Keep Your Power - Slide 9 Dictators can change laws in ways that will help them gain more power and open more door and ways for them to change thing that thing should be changed and should be better or in their way. They use terrorism so make people fear their “Great leader” and agree with what they say. A modern example of this would be Kim Jong Un. He uses terrorism to make people fear him and they call him their great leader. A historic example would be Stalin. Stalin makes people put him as their only salvation and makes them come to hime when they want things which can lead to him “creating better laws for the people.”
