Mary Ward students perform the critically acclaimed musical 2 3 1 By Katrina Rodriguez “Working”, the musical production performed by Mary Ward students and directed by Mr. Mabrucco in April, was truly a spectacle to watch. Consisting of multiple songs and monologues, “Working” depicted the struggles, experiences and joys of a working person. Displayed through a broad spectrum of characters, from a housewife living in a society that views her as incompetent and invaluable, to avaricious office bosses or a caretaker earning money for their child overseas. The stories illustrated were able to establish a connection with the audience, and portray heart-wrenching in depth stories that left all viewers in awe. Every detail was carefully constructed, with an innovative set and props and colourfully ambient lighting organised by the hardworking tech crew. There were beautiful costumes and captivating choreographies, with a special performance from Adrenalyn. The show flowed through every part flawlessly, without a dull moment. The stage was set ablaze by such a diverse array of skilled, creative and hardworking students showcasing their passion for dramatic arts and was a breathtaking exhibit of the brilliant and talented students at Mary Ward. The cast consisted of Rena Ampofo, Antwan Barbar, Joana Bauman-Enriquez, Yun Chan, Jacquelynne Datu, Kayceane Dimalanta, Jesstin Estavillo, Serenity Gran, Vana Kazanjian, Bea Lloret, Nova Lumbao, Ysmael Mendoza, Nith Muralitharan, Shanelle Salanguit, Joshua San Juan, Breanna Browley and Jayce Scott. community cocommmmuunnityity community A Night in Olympus A beautiful night of energy, celebration, and excitement By Jouie Palconit On Thursday, June 2, 2022, Mary Ward students filled the Crystal Fountain Event Venue in their Sunday bests. The lobby was packed with bodies in sleek button-ups and shiny dresses - taking pictures, fixing hair, and reapplying lipstick two inches from the countless mirrors that adorned the walls and ceilings. The energy was high and the volume was loud. Attendees were directed to the main hall shortly after and continued to hug and clamour about how everyone cleaned up nicely as they looked for their tables. The event started with Nithursian, the MC. He gave an enthusiastic introduction about how this was Mary Ward’s first semi-formal in two years and called down all of the SAC members as they made a grand entrance. We were entertained by performances by Chantle (Gr.9) and Nova (Gr. 10), who sang beautifully while everyone lined up for dinner — chicken, salad, roasted vegetables, and pasta was served. After dinner, we played table games and an intense couple rounds of “bring me”. At some point, we trailed back to the lobby and got our pictures taken at the photo booth and took more on our own. Energy was at its peak, so the dance floor was too. The crowd was full of excitement and movement, despite sharing a mutual disdain for the DJ’s questionable song choices. Nonetheless, everyone still broke a sweat from dancing and jumping around to the once top 40s. That condensed crowd of excitement made time slip by, and soon enough, the clock striked 11:00 p.m. Ward’s night in Olympus had come to a close. The rainbow lights turned off, the fluorescent lights turned on, and we limped out of the hall with sore legs and centrepieces. Semi-formal was finished and we were satisfied.
