My Dear Supporters, A warm welcome to all you from Sankar Foundation! With the blessings of Swamy Samartha and the support of all of you, Sankar Foundation is improving each day. Trustees are the backbone of any Trust and strengthening the Trust Board will improve the Trust. We are happy to inform that two eminent persons have agreed to be part of the Trust Board of Sankar Foundation. Mr. Kannan Ramamirtham, an M.Sc in Mathematics from the Madras university and PGDMS from Bombay university, an eminent consultant, Founder-Orion Sayi. Certified Associate of Indian Institute of bankers, Industrial Finance Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers with over 35 years of experience in banking sector & in strategic financial management. He currently undertakes owner level advisory. He is also Trustee of Vedanta Foundation. Mr. Venkat Changavelli, B.Tech. (Chemical) from NIT, Warangal and MBA from IIM (Ahmedabad), advisor to Govt of Telangana & Haryana, advisor to various organizations including Tata Trust. First CEO of EMRI, a successful emergency management system, that has proved to be successful involving high volume of people. A warm welcome to both of them into the Board of Sankar Foundation.

Important events A 15 cm Worm in the eye!!! – Yes, it’s true…. It is a surprise to all of you and also to us! Mother of an auto driver, staying at Pendurthy, Visakhapatnam, Mrs. B. Parvathi with MRNo: 186735 came as an outpatient with a complaint of severe pain in the left eye. She went around to many hospitals and used medicines prescribed by various Ophthalmologists for getting relief to her pain, but the pain did not subside. In her hunt for the hospitals to get relief from the pain, she visited Sankar Foundation on 20th Feb, 2019. Our doctors, on examination found something moving in the eye and on deeper examination realized there is a worm in the eye. Immediately she was shifted to operation theatre, by then the worm went inside the eye. She was then advised an MRI with an advice to come to the hospital as and when she experiences the movement in the eye. Mrs B, Parvathi, unable to bear the pain in her eye reported to hospital at 10.30 in the night on the same day. Immediately the doctors and OT staff were called for an emergency surgery and by 1:00 am, a 15 cm long worm was taken out from the eye. Finally Mrs. B. Parvathi was relieved of her pain in the eye.

Inaugurations : We are happy to inform you that a state of the art wet lab, audio visually connected to the operation theatre was inaugurated on 22nd Feb 2019 by Sri A.S. Krishnan, CEO & Director of South Asia LPG Pvt. Ltd. This facility will improve the quality of training for PG fellows & DNB students. Sri Lokam Sridhar, CEO of Open Logix solutions, USA participated in the event.

An ultra-modern equipment, AL Scan was inaugurated by Sri P. Raghunadha Rao, Chairman, Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Cooperative bank, Visakhapatnam on 22nd Feb, 2019.

Keynote address by Mrs K.B.N.Manimala, MT & CEO on ‘Strategic Planning for organisation of comprehensive Eye camps’ at NRI Medical College on 12th Mar 2019 Dr Venkat Chengavalli, Management Consultant visited SFEH on 19th Feb 2019.

World Glaucoma Week Celebrated from 10th to16th Mar 2019 Glaucoma is a silent killer of vision and many lose their sight due to lack of awareness. Keeping this in view, Ophthalmology fraternity has identified a week in the year to spread the awareness on Glaucoma. As a part of this program, we have celebrated Glaucoma week from 10th to 16th March by creating awareness of this dreading sight killing disease by conducting the following activities. 1. Put up a stall in the morning in the beach road to address morning walkers for 4 days. Many people enthusiastically participated in it. 2. Organized an awareness talk on Glaucoma - A Silent Sight Killing Disease in Atchutapuram village, where 400 people participated

3. During the week long celebrations, patients were encouraged to ask their doubts and detailed interaction with the Glaucoma specialist was organized every evening. 4. Employees of Sankar Foundation were oriented about the adverse effects of Glaucoma through a power point presentation by Dr T.Ravindra, Glaucoma Specialist.

Pillars of strength: * Supporters to Sankar Foundation are like pillars to our philanthropy work. Maruthi trust of United Kingdom is one of the supporters that support few of our eye camps every year. Sri BachuBhaikotecha, Managing Trustee and Mrs. Ranjan Ben patel, Chairperson of the trust visited our hospital on 5th March 2019. We are truly fortunate to host them for 2 days in our hospital. * A water cooler was supported by Sri K. Venkateswara Raju garu for the benefit of the patients and it was inaugurated by him on 27th March 2019.

* With the support of Brandix Bharat Trust, we have been conducting major Comprehensive Eye camps on 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month in Atchutapuram village. We are able to dispense spectacles for the people with refractive errors. We are happy to bring to your notice that we could dispense 92% of the spectacles prescribed on the spot. This will ensure the compli- ance of using the spectacles as the frames are chosen by the patient and is dispensed in the next one hour. This will also ensure that the person does not lose one more days wage in the process of collecting them.

Bi Monthly Report (Feb-Mar, 2019) Figures speak a lot about what we are doing! These will also explain whether we are going in the right direction and also towards our goal! Our main goal is to achieve sustainability for the revenue expenditure and still not lose the aim of eradicating avoidable blindness in the vicinity, by conducting free surgeries to the poor. The Motto of Sankar Foundation is to see to it that no one goes blind for lack of money or support.
