SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING RECENT EVENTS WOMEN SAFETY SEMINAR A seminar on women commuters‟ safety was held in our college on 21st January, 2016. The students were enlightened about the present scenario of the society where the women are destined to confront atrocities and unethical behavior of some people in their everyday life. The list of the guests for the occasion included Mr. Ashutosh Pandey, Asst. Security Commissioner, RPF, Mr. Rajiv Singh Salariya, Inspector, RPF, Ms.Linesh Bairagi, Inspector, RPF and the local police officers. The dignitaries were cordially welcomed by all the students and staff members. Principal of SLRTCE, Dr. S. Ram Reddy greeted the gentlemen with all his heart. They all occupied the dais. The seminar hall was crowded with the 5

SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING enthusiastic girl students who were waiting for the seminar to start. After all, the seminar was concerned and dedicated to their safety. The much anticipated session began with the guest raising the girls to reveal their troubles and privation they meet while travelling in trains buses and rickshaws. They were asked about their experiences on pick-pocketing, chain snatching and molestation happen during commuting in locals. It was quite an interactive session. The girls were then shown some footage and asked to find out the wrong and unnatural going on in those clips. They were made to identify the offence, which ruffians did successfully in those clips. There were two more policemen who shared their real life experiences in dealing with the molestation and sexual harassment cases. The lady inspector, Miss Bairagi delivered a speech which emphasized on self -protection skills. She motivated the girls to be prepared for any sort of attack because they never know what could happen with them. She discussed how women are soft targeted 6

SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING and how they are prevented to raise their voices against offences. Her speech was truly inspirational. Ms. Bairagi shared her own experience on dealing with these criminals. Emergency helpline numbers were provided to the students in case if such emergency ever happens to them. She also guided the girls to be wary of strangers. The audience was thrilled to know the safety measure taken by the government and the police to ensure the safety of women. The cops shared a detail that Mumbai Suburban rail network has around 1000 CCTVs that monitor each and every movement of the people. The cops concluded the seminar by saying that they are trying their level best to make this city a better place for women and men to live. They are trying to ensure that women‟s safety is of paramount importance. Overall, the seminar was very illuminating and thrived on theme of individual action taken by young generation girls to safeguard themselves. The teachers and the students found the seminar to be very fruitful and knowledgeable. The seminar was thus a success. Tejas Parkar TE ETRX 7

SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING TECHNICAL PAPER PRESENTATION-UTSAV 2K16 In UTSAV 2k16, technical fest was organised by Shree LR Tiwari College of Engineering. Many technical events were held such as PROJECT COMPETITION, TECHNICAL PAPER PRESENTATION, LAN GAMING, POSTER COMPETITION, ROBO WARS, RUBIC CUBE, LINE FOLLOWER, POWER TOWER, BOB THE BUILDER, and DEBATE. The event TECHNICAL PAPER PRESENTATION was inaugurated by felicitation of the respected judge Prof. Mahendra Patil, the Head of Computer Department in Athrva College of Engineering followed by the presentation of the participants. The event held successfully under the guidance of Ms. Nina Narasimhan and Mrs. Manjari Gogate. The event was co- ordinated by Kush Mittal & Harsh Vyas. In this event, more than 25 groups consist of 66 students presented their innovative ideas, knowledge and new concepts in variety of technologies. Students from different colleges took part in the event enthusiastically. Hiten Nirmal Parth,Valangar, AtulGupta,Urmil Shah {Slrtce} got first prize for „Development of a fuzzy neural network software for groundwater modelling’. So far fuzzy logic has been extensively used to better analyze and design controllers for chemical processors. It has also been used for other applications like parameter estimation of nonlinear continuous time systems but in general fuzzy logic has been intensively used for heuristics based systems .Recently fuzzy logic has been applied successfully, in many areas where 8

SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING conventional model based approaches are difficult or not cost effective to implement. Zahwa Ansari {Slrtce} got second prize for BraingateTechnology.BrainGate is a brain implant system developed by the bio-tech company‚ Cyber kinetics in conjunction with the Department of Neuroscience at Brown University. The development of the brain gate system brain-computer interface is to enable those with severe paralysis and other neurological conditions to live more productively and independently. Swapnil GorwadkarAsir Khan { Universal College of Engineering, Vasai } got third prize for „Study of Effect of Roadway Factors on Vehicular Speed and Passenger Car Unit Values’ Speed of vehicles on a highway indicates the quality of service experienced by motorists. More importantly, the choice of speed has direct implication on safety, efficiency and the size of environmental impacts both for an individual road user and the traffic system in general. Not only the general speed level, but also the way the speed changes is of importance. However, higher the speed variation, greater will be the interactions among vehicles, resulting bias in determining speed limits for design of highway facility. Present study is carried out to understand the variation in speed and Passenger Car Unit (PCU) Values for different roadway conditions. The speed is found to vary significantly for different class of vehicles. Even the similar pattern of variation is observed in PCU values when found using homogenization method. For modernizations of society in each and every field new ideas are the basic pillars. The events like TECHNICAL PAPER PRESENTATION focus on the possible leading edges for new innovations. The participants presented their ideas in various fields which shows that how much capabilities and knowledge they do have which is required for their as well as society's development. The aim of the event was to motivate students from different disciplines and to 9

SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING KNOWLEDGE SECTION Earthquake resistance: Straw to stones huts to houses Over a protracted period of time, from the days of caves to 3-D printed houses, the place we call “home” has changed imperceptibly. It is apparent that humans have made acute thinking in making their “home” tenacious and permanent; in doing so the major obstacle was always in the form of natural forces such as strong wind, heavy rainfall or snow, or extreme temperature and earthquake. With advancement in the technologies the method of construction has also been bolstered up and many of the natural forces obstacles have been overcome, though we can say that we are safe at our “home” but Mother Nature has always something to surprise us with and challenge our beliefs. In recent years many countries have seen the horrendous face of nature, not only countries like Nepal, Haiti or Indonesia, which doesn‟t have proper construction technique and capital to make their structure resistive to earthquake, and lost hundreds of lives in it, but also super power countries Japan and china couldn‟t hale their structure from the incursion of earthquake. So it‟s still intriguing engineers and researchers to make new inventions and discoveries in order to make structure resistive seismic waves. Many discoveries have been quite efficient while some has proven to be incompetent; though it‟s absurd, humans 11

SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING are still trying to quench their thirst of curiosity to overpower nature. One of such discovery, in constructing material, is done in Spain to make structure earthquake resistant. RESEARCHERS IN Spain are developing an earthquake-resistant brick that they say could be incorporated into interior brick walls to stabilize them during seismic events. Dubbed Sis brick by its creators at the University at Polytechnic de Valencia, the material is capable of absorbing greater horizontal movements than is the case with standard brick while still supporting vertical loads that can affect a building‟s structural integrity. The bricks are designed to be arranged in a pattern within partition walls made mostly of standard bricks, and the researchers say that Sis brick would enable such a wall to absorb three times as much horizontal movement as a typical brick wall. The arrangement would essentially isolate the wall from the building‟s structural frame during a seismic event, increasing its stability and preventing a potentially catastrophic load transfer from the wall to the frame. Francisco J. Pillars, Ph.D., the principal researcher on the project, explained that Sis brick greatly reduces the structural effects of brick walls, which exhibit complex and sometimes unpredictable behavior during earthquakes. The new material would lead to more predictable building behavior and therefore a more accurate structural design. “This is a product that is new and unique. There is nothing like it on the market,” Pillars said in written responses to questions from Civil Engineering. “It must be seen as a security system that protects the building structure from the infill interaction and reduces the stresses in the masonry panels.” 12

SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING Pillars are developing Sis brick with his brother, Luis Pillars, Ph.D., both of whom are researchers at the university in the institute that specializes in concrete science and technology. Their research was inspired by the earthquake that struck the Spanish region of Murcia in 2011. The temblor, the region‟s strongest in nearly 50 years, killed nine people, destroyed hundreds of homes, and caused millions of dollars‟ worth of damage. The researchers observed that much of the structural damage there was caused by the dynamic interaction between buildings‟ structural frames and their brick infill walls. Here compromised brick exerted additional forces on structural elements and caused failure. Other scientists have developed earthquake-resistant bricks that offer enhanced loading capacity, but the Pillars sought to design a brick that would add to that property an ability to absorb greater horizontal movement. They designed Sis brick with the goals of making brick masonry stronger, more resistant to seismic movement, and more predictable. Sis brick‟s developers say that incorporating just a small number of the bricks into a standard brick wall could greatly improve its performance. They expect to soon conclude a three-year development and testing process that could lead to additional research and eventual commercial use. The researchers explained that although their testing has convinced them of Sis brick‟s effectiveness in partition walls, they will still have to test its use with double-layer brick. They plan to seek additional funding for further research, which would include optimizing production and brick configurations, developing additional uses for the brick, and studying its behavior in walls with such openings as those for doors and windows. The researchers estimate that using Sis brick could increase a building‟s cost by about 2 to 3 percent, which they see as modest in relation to the potential human and economic costs that it could prevent. At present they are in discussions with two companies to gain a more accurate sense of the investment 13

SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING needed to produce the material. Such kind of efforts are required in order to make our “home” more safer, but at the same time we should not forget to venerate the power of nature. Humans are only creature making their transition from cave to huts to high rise building and making its place of living better day by day. Shuja Abbas Abidi B.E. CIVIL 14

SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING Real life applications of Data Mining and Business Intelligence As the importance of data analytics continues to grow, companies are finding more and more applications for Data Mining and Business Intelligence. Here we take a look at 5 real life applications of these technologies and shed light on the benefits they can bring to your business. Data mining and business intelligence service provider The first example of Data Mining and Business Intelligence comes from service providers in the mobile phone and utilities industries. Mobile phone and utilities companies use Data Mining and Business Intelligence to predict „churn‟, the terms they use for when a customer leaves their company to get their phone/gas/broadband from another provider. They collate billing information, customer services interactions, website visits and other metrics to give each customer a probability score, then target offers and incentives to customers whom they perceive to be at a higher risk of churning. Data mining and business intelligence retail another example of Data Mining and Business Intelligence comes from the retail sector. Retailers segment customers into „Recency, Frequency, Monetary‟ (RFM) groups and target marketing and promotions to those different groups. A customer who spends little but often and last did so recently will be handled differently to a customer who spent big but only once, and also some time ago. The former may receive a loyalty, up sell and cross-sell offers, whereas the latter may be offered a win-back deal, for instance. Perhaps some of the most well -known examples of Data Mining and Analytics come from E-commerce sites. Many E-commerce companies use Data Mining and Business Intelligence to offer cross-sells and up-sells 15

SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING through their websites. One of the most famous of these is, of course, Amazon, who use sophisticated mining techniques to drive there, „People who viewed that product, also liked this‟ functionality. Data mining and business intelligence supermarkets Super markets provide another good example of Data Mining and Business Intelligence in action. Famously, supermarket loyalty card programmes are usually driven mostly, if not solely, by the desire to gather comprehensive data about customers for use in data mining. One notable recent example of this was with the US retailer Target. As part of its Data Mining programme, the company developed rules to predict if their shoppers were likely to be pregnant. By looking at the contents of their customers‟ shopping baskets, they could spot customers who they thought were likely to be expecting and begin targeting promotions for nappies (diapers), cotton wool and so on. The prediction was so accurate that Target made the news by sending promotional coupons to families who did not yet realise (or who had not yet announced) they were pregnant! You can read the full story here on Forbes. The use of Data Mining and Business Intelligence is not solely reserved for corporate applications and this is shown in our final example. Beyond corporate applications, crime prevention agencies use analytics and Data Mining to spot trends across myriads of data – helping with everything from where to deploy police manpower (where is crime most likely to happen and when?), who to search at a border crossing (based on age/type of vehicle, number/age of occupants, border crossing history) and even which intelligence to take seriously in counter-terrorism activities. So Data Mining and business intelligence plays an important role in our real life. Service 16

SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING Other Activities Cultural festival is one of the most exciting events happening in a college. Utsav 2k16 — the annual intercollegiate cultural fest was organized by SHREE L. R. TIWARI COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING. Dr. S. Ram Reddy our beloved principal presided the function. The two-day fest was attended by more than two thousand students, who participated in more than 40 different contests ,competitions and games with a view to stimulate the participants with verve and creativity and enable them to gain a lifetime experience. Have you ever wished to go back in time? Ever wished to live in the era of 90’s? Well Utsav 2k16 made this possible!! This year’s fest theme was ‘BACK TO THE PAST’ the whole college was decorated with the astonishing paintings viz. Bob Marley, Rajesh khanna, Gabbar and it also had posters of iconic cartoons naming Naruto, Popeye, One piece and Swat Cats. There were stunning standees of Marilyn Monroe, Donkey Kong and the extravagant models of Titanic and Telephone Booth were truly spectacular. All this was possible because of the sincere enthusiasm and hard work of the Decoration Team of Utsav 2k16. 23

SHREE L.R. TIWARI C0LLEGE OF ENGINEERING The highlights of the Cultural fest Utsav 2k16 were events like the photography contest, #WannaBe Sherlock, Tv-Show Trivia and IPL Auction. An interesting short documentary contest was also scheduled. The show concluded on a high note as everybody danced, sang and partied at the DJ Night. It was a worthwhile & amp; fruitful experience for the students from different colleges by gaining an immense insight through participation and interaction. The fest preparations started in mid-January. It was easier said than done. With a fixed time limit and even more fixated budget the organizers had a back-breaking task ahead of them with formidable feelings. Their sheer will and determination to prove that they are no less than any other college when it comes to putting up an extravaganza of the fest had kept them going. Till the last day students were very doubtful whether all that endless runs, late nights, hard work, lecture bunks would really pay off. The co-operation of all the co-coordinators, teachers, students, principal & the backup from our seniors and their guidance made this event a huge success. The denouement of the fest was fantastic, we can proudly say that the result was immaculately sweet and magnanimous. MEET TIMBADIA TE-IT 24
