TX 78572 PHONE: 956-580-5200 FAX: 956-580-5229 WWW.SHARYLANDISD.ORG Sharyland ISDTime Equivalency Days 2018-2019With the prior written approval of the Superintendent, principal, or supervisor, professional and paraprofessional personnelmay attend staff development sessions, workshops, and seminars on weekends, holidays, summer vacation, or other non-instructional time and be credited with staff development hours.All campus-based professional staff is required to attend 12 hours of approved professional learning outside of their contractor workdays to receive equivalency credit. All classroom instructional aides are required to complete 16 hours of approvedequivalency time (two 8 hour workdays). The district will not offer staff development sessions on days designated asequivalency days.Employees must upload attendance certificates to workshop for approval from the principal (or designee), providing evidenceof attendance and participation in approved activities.Equivalency time during the school year shall be granted for as many as two designated professional learning days for staffdevelopment completed at other times during the year, provided the following conditions are met: 1. Workshop attendance shall have prior approval from the principal or designee and shall meet appropriate criteria for staff development established in the District and/or Campus Improvement Plans. 2. The workshop experience shall meet professional rather than personal needs. 3. School time or released time shall not be used. 4. Proper documentation of full-day or half-day equivalency shall be entered into Eduphoria/Workshop in the individual teacher's transcript. 5. Equivalency time shall not accrue from one school year to another. 6. College courses, professional association meetings and workshops for which college credit may be earned shall not be used to substitute for staff development. 7. Staff development activities that qualify for time equivalency must directly relate to improving student achievement or to improving employee's job skills. 8. The time frame for the accumulation of time equivalency credit for all employees begins the last day of their 2017- 2018 contract and must be completed no later than November 16, 2018.Six hours will be equal to one day of time equivalency credit for professional staff. Time equivalency must be earned in creditblocks of no less than three hours. Payroll deductions for staff for non-completion of the required 12 to 16 hours of timeequivalency will be done based on each individual's daily rate as determined by the Business Department. Deductions will bemade in 'A day increments. Personal or sick leave may not be used in lieu of an equivalency day. Pay will be deducted from theDecember paycheck for those employees who have not met their time equivalency requirements.
