DREAMS Program 2021 Presents Virtual Concept Models For Early Teens Self-Esteem and Self-Concept

Welcome to the World of your Self We have put together a document with our theme: Self- Esteem and Self-Concept. We wish to teach you a little about what the two terms are, how they affect you all and how you can work with them and boost them too! So sit back, relax and read up!

What is Self- Esteem? self-esteem is the subjective evaluation of one's self-worth. It explains how much a person appreciates themselves, regardless of whatever the circumstances (emotional or social) they're caught up in. Self-esteem is interchangeably used with self-worth, self- regard and self-respect.

What is Self- Concept? Self-concept is our personal knowledge of our behaviour and abilities. It also includes our self- awareness of our thoughts and feelings, our personal beliefs, social roles, goals, etc.

When does it Emerge? Self-esteem starts developing during an individual's infancy. A positive and nurturing home will help develop high self- esteem, which also positively affects the baby's maturation. As the infant grows older, their environment expands from parents to peers, teachers, neighbours, etc, which too will play a major role in the development of the person's self- esteem Self-concept tends to be easily influenced during a child's younger years. However, its development is most rapid during early childhood and adolescence, but it does continue to change as people learn more about themselves.

Why you need them? Self-esteem impacts peoples' decisiveness, relationship security and stability, emotional health, self- awareness and overall well-being. A healthy dose of self-esteem would motivate people to take up new challenges in life because of their positive self-awareness. They're neither overcritical of themselves nor do they overestimate themselves- they maintain the reality barrier. Self-concept helps in the development of one's capabilities through self-discovery and interactions with other people, including peers, parents and teachers. A favourable environment helps people build a realistic and positive self-concept, and people are open to constructive criticism with a thirst for improvement.

Where will you find them? The people in one's lives- including parents and teachers.- can affect how they feel about themselves, When the focus is on what's good about an individual, they feel good about themselves. But, if people are reprimanded more than praised, they stop feeling good about themselves, therefore affecting the person's self-esteem negatively. It is easier for harsh words and taunts to stick around more than the positives- this can also hinder the development of self-concept Self-awareness or the 'voice in our head' affects self- esteem. The more harsh people are on themselves, the more they hurt their self-esteem. However, positive and hopeful thinking does help in increasing self-esteem and making people feel better about themselves.

How will you work with them? It is possible to improve our self-esteem and develop it further as we grow older. Identification of negative thoughts and beliefs that may impact/deteriorate our self-worth Try to build a positive relationship with yourself by challenging the negative thoughts- maybe through positive self-talk, self- acceptance and letting go of the past. Take breaks! You deserve it! Learn to be assertive and turn down or refuse whenever needed- learn to put your foot down. Physical exercises can also help with improving your self- esteem Keep challenging yourself- explore your limits and go beyond! You must work on your self-esteem regularly and try to keep it realistically high- too low or too high a self-esteem can negatively affect the progress of a positive self-concept.

DREAMS Program 2021 Presents Virtual Concept Models For Early Teens attitudes and Emotions

Welcome to the World of Emotions and Attitudes Hello! We have put together a little capsule with our theme: Attitudes and Emotions. We wish to teach you about the two terms, how they affect you all, and how you can work with them and boost them too! So sit back, relax and read up!

What is Attitude? Attitude is a set of emotions, beliefs, and behaviours towards something, which may result from experiences or upbringing. They greatly influence one's behaviour and thought processes. Attitudes are never constant- they may change over time through the experiences endured during one's life.

What are Emotions? Emotions are subjective (or abstract) bodily reactions that are triggered due to a particular internal or external event(s). describe physiological states and are generated subconsciously.

When do they Emerge? Attitudes emerge in children- once they start thinking for themselves. Usually, they start forming when they interact more with their first role model- guardians or parents. Emotions, however, develop during the second six months of life. They express emotions primarily based on a situation or context. Once again, they form directly during the interaction between the guardian or parent.

Why you need them? Since attitudes influence our behaviour and thought processes, we can say that they help us form our opinions and evaluate issues and decision-making. Of course, sometimes our evaluation may be negative, positive or uncertain. Emotions help us take action, survive, react, avoid danger, make decisions, and understand others. Perception of emotions in others also helps us understand a particular situation or environment. For example, seeing the reaction of fear in your friend when you watch a horror movie.

Where will you find them? As mentioned earlier, attitude is a result of experience. However, they may be nurtured or instilled in a person; thus, through a direct personal experience, they may be a product of observation. Another critical factor in the formation of attitude is the social roles and norms that have been inculcated into the person. Sometimes, we learn an attitude by creating an association between behaviour and its consequence. For example, smoking is bad. Emotions emerge from activity in distinct regions of the brain, namely three regions: the amygdala, the insula, and a structure in the midbrain.

How will you work with them? Attitudes and emotions together help us with our decision-making, evaluate a situation/event, and make a judgment. As we grow older, we learn more about the world through our experiences, which helps us develop our attitudes and emotions, helping us make more sensible and rational decisions and emotions. We also learn to deal with them better without complicating the entire situation or getting in trouble. However, sometimes, we might find it difficult to express or understand our emotions and why we feel them. This is when you need to start talking to a trusted adult like a teacher, guardian, parent or older sibling- they can always provide you better solutions and give you a safe space. Sometimes you need to take a break from everything- introspect yourself and your actions. No one can help you better than yourself!

DREAMS Program 2021 Presents Virtual Concept Models For Early Teens DREAMS AND PURPOSE IN LIFE

Welcome to the World of Dreams and Purpose in Life Hello! We have put together a little capsule with our theme: Dreams and Purpose in Life. We wish to teach you about the importance of setting a goal, why dreams will help you define it, and how it helps find your purpose in life! Also, we will give you little tricks to help you through life's journey and overcoming your obstacles. So sit back, relax and read up!

What Are Dreams? When you close your eyes and drift into your sleep, you see and experience a series of images, emotions, sensations and a lot more- this is the scientific definition of dreams. However, that is not where its concept ends! Dreams show what you want- the inner you, your inner desires, your wishes- everything you really want. It may or may not be attainable, but however, it is something that is a part of you. As Cinderella once sang, \"A dream is a wish your heart makes,\" is truly the aptest definition of a dream!

What is a Purpose in Life? Your purpose in life is your main or central aim- your ultimate goal to achieve your successful future. It is entirely personal- it differs from person to person. It sets you apart from the others, hence making you 'uniquely you'! Your purpose in life is what helps you make your decisions, help you find the inner meaning to yourself, influence your behaviour, and form and achieve your goals.

When does it Emerge? Dreams and Purpose in life emerge ever since your an infant, except that the development might be slow and gradual. A person realises their purpose in their own time- it varies from person to person, and there is no particular time or age when a person is supposed to realise it.

Why you need them? Dreams, as mentioned above- are your inner desires and wishes. Purpose fuels your determination to fulfil the dream Therefore, dreams with the purpose set your ultimate aim or vision in life- it is like completing the quest for your holy grail It gives you a clear idea of what we want to achieve and helps you establish clear goals So, go ahead and dream big! Your purpose will guide you!

Where will you find them? Dreams and your purpose in life have always been with you- you need to introspect and know yourself well enough to realise it. Since the heart is used as a metaphor mainly for a person's inner self and desire, we can also say that dreams and purpose exist within your heart.

How will you work with them? As mentioned before, dreams and purpose help you achieve your supreme goal- your final destination. However, it would help if you always kept in mind that sometimes, some dreams are unattainable., some dreams are unattainable. Moreover, that is okay! Because somewhere along the line, you might unknowingly achieve it, or it might come to you when the time is right. Instead, the other option is, find alternatives! If plan A does not work, no matter! B, C, D,...Z exists! Remember, it is always good and entirely all right to start from Square One Sometimes, achieving a dream and its purpose might seem like a daunting or overwhelming task. This is when you have to follow the method of 'SMART Goals': S- Specific M- Measurable A- Attainable R- Relevant T- Time

By incorporating all of the above, you will be able to focus your efforts better and increase the chances of achieving your goal. Lastly, if you need a break- go for it! It is good to take off from life's difficult struggle and focus on yourself. A renewed and rejuvenated you is much better than a worn and torn one! Taking Walt Disney's famous quote: \"All of our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.\" So, chin up and go ahead- dream big and always aim for the stars!
