Letter From The Editor Welcome to the Sustainable Pakistan magazine edition. Sustainable Pakistan is a long-term industry initiative providing sustainable, innovative and digital solutions for the global fashion industry. It is based on initiatives addressing labour and enrivonrmental standards in Pakistan’s textile industry, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, BMZ, and realised by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GIZ. Through the initiative, we had the chance to enter incredible partnerships and develop exciting products. As the year comes to an end, we invite you to take a look not just at what we have achieved, but also towards the future. We got together different people from the industry to share their views on the project, fashion, and the future with the readers. See for yourself what Pakistan has to offer in terms of sustainable productions and innovative producers. Find out what trends we can expect next year. Get updated on the trade fairs to look forward to, learn what makes a global brand, meet the people behind the clothes, and more. Thanks to the many contributors, we were able to put together diverse content for this edition. Enjoy the read! Karl Borgschulze Chief Editor 2

With the positive impact created by the project in the partner factories, it was important to us show the people who it made a difference to - the people at the production line. Saniya Nasir is part of the CSI team and located in La- hore, from where she met up with them to have a chat. SANIYA NASIR Due to the international travel restrictions, I became the eyes and ears of the project in Pakistan. I work as the Communications Manager and work closely with our part- ner textile factories in the country. To cover the ‘Workers’ Voice’ section of the magazine, I visited three factories – Samad Apparel, Intermarket Knit and Vision Technologies – to talk to workers there. Chatting with them and asking them fun questions about their lives gave me a different perspective of things, as previously I had mostly only dealt with the factories’ management teams. The interviews offer an opportunity to meet people from different parts of the Punjab province, and see their view on the world. 33 Issue No 1 / Sustainable Pakistan Workers from partner factories in Pakistan
