SANDHILLS CATTLE NEWS | October 15, 2021 Richard Fairhead Richard is the fifth generation that has lived in Western Nebraska and is the fourth generation on the ranch that him and his family operate today. They have a Cow- calf operation that retains their calves each year and sells their yearlings off grass in late summer or fall. Richard is a member of Sandhills Cattle Association and he appreciates the data-based information that SCA offers its members. He also likes that the focus of the ranching ‘way of life’ in the newsletters makes SCA’s publications not only informative but also enjoyable to read. Richard’s qualifications are that he was a first-year member of the Student-AthleteAdvisory Committee (SAAC) at Black Hills State University that started during the Universities transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division 2. During that time, they established the Mission and Philosophy Statements for the athletic department moving forward. He then graduated from Black Hills State University with my B.S. in Business Administration and Finance. After that, I spent 2.5 years at Chadron State College as a graduate assistant football coach, while also earning my M.B.A. As a coach, you are often interacting with many people primarily student-athletes in formal meetings and practices. This required an ability to talk to people in large settings. Richard feels that his 7 years at home ranching along with his experience with people and his education can bring value to the Sandhills Cattle Association by becoming our next Board Member. Page 28
