Online Blog: My WordPressThis will be my online blog that I will update throughout the duration of the course. I will add many things to it, such my progress, research and inspiration from other artists. I have had only 1 online blog in the past, so I intend to try and keep it up to date. So far, I have not made any posts, but as I get further into the course and start to create work, this will change.

Online Portfolio: ArtstationThis is my online portfolio, where I will upload finished work and pieces that Ihave created, for people to view and give feedback on how I could improve andgive me appraisal. I like this website, as it has a very high quality standard ofwork, and most professionals uses this website today, to show progress as well asconcepts.

Online Research collection: Pinterestu This is my Pinterest page, where I will create separate ‘boards’ to store images that I find on the internet that I will use for influence and inspiration. I find this website really useful, as I can just click to save it here, making it effective and easy to find influence and keep it archived for later use and reference in my work.u I currently have a small amount of images, and this will expand over the duration of the course and time.

My Sketchbooku This is my sketchbook as it currently stands. It has only drawing of concepts for my Mel brooks digital piece, but there will be more hand drawn pieces over the duration of the course. I intend for my sketchbook to make quick concepts and making quick drawings of various parts so that I can quickly check proportions, etc.u I would not say that I am good at drawing, however, I am going to try and improve the quality of my drawing by taking more time with each drawing.

Artists- Hideo Kojima Hideo Kojima was the former Vice president at Konami Digital Entertainment and is the director of Kojima Productions. I like his work because of its imaginative pieces, such as the robots and the mechs he makes. His character design is well thought out as well, and his games are known for having the best storylines and characters. https://www.unseen64.net /wp-content/uploads/20 10/0 5/zoe-2-c oncept-ar t-11.jpg 6/10/2016 09:46https://cdn3.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/6833181/kojipro_8.0.jpg 06/10/2016 10:07 http://cdn3.dualshockers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/solid_snake_is_dead_1.jpg 06/10/2016 09:49

Artists- Arnold Tsanghttps://www.artstation.com/artist/arnistotleArnold Tsang is currently a Concept artist who has made most of the concepts forBlizzards newest game, Overwatch. A lot of attention in detail was made, makinghis work of a high quality.

u These are some pictures that I will use for reference to create some body parts. I chose these because I thought that certain parts from these pictures would look good with what I am trying to achieve.

u This is the library that I have built. These are all separate parts, in which I will stick together to create a large amount of quick concepts. The reason that they are all black is because I wanted to do this method quickly, so I am using silhouettes, and then I could add different shades if they are needed (the Photoshop file used was greyscale).u To create the quick concepts, I created a new Photoshop file that was a blank piece of A4, then dragged out a pair of legs, body and head. I stuck them together, and made adjustments using the brush tool to make it fit correctly. I ten added weapons and other parts and adjusted it again.u I liked using this method, and will use it in the future, as I prefer to design quick parts like this and stick them together, as oppose to making all of the parts in one go.

The quick concepts from the parts

These are some quick character thumbnail sketches that I have designed. All of them took around an hour and a half to create. I spent around10 minutes on each one. All these were made using a drawing tablet, turning on the pressure sensitive mode. I left the opacity mode off, because I wanted to use a single colour to create them. This mode would make it more difficult as I would have to apply lots of pressure toget the darkest colour, which I didn’t want.I did not use any reference in these, as I wanted to try and be original with my design. To make the process quick and easy, I used greyscalemode, so that I only worked in black and white. The reason that all of the characters are rough is because of the technique that I used. Thistechnique was that I was supposed to use as little lines as possible and they aren’t supposed to have lots of detail into them. To also savetime, I drew them as silhouettes and then added 30% opacity white on top. For the shadows underneath the characters, I used 30% opacityblack. This is done to highlight certain parts of the body and certain shadows.I do intend to take some of these poses further, and turn them into full finished outcomes. However, I would improve these at this stage byadding slight colour to them, to give it extra depth.

Redwood National Park Trees and Plantsu Original image found here: https://www.nps.gov/redw/index.htm (Found through Pinterest) accessed 24/11/2016.u I like this image because of the vibrant colours of the plants and how it almost looks like it has been altered. The bark on the trees is very detailed as well and each tree varies as well, giving a different texture each time. It also looks like a calm setting, which appeals to the viewer more.

Azurite found in Tsumeb Mine, Namibia.https://www.crystalclassics.co.uk/product/azurite-947284/u Original image found here: https://www.crystalclassics.co.uk/product/azurite-947284/ (Found through Pinterest) accessed on 24/11/2016u This is the mineral Azurite, and this particular one was mined in the Tsumeb mine, Namibia. The reason I have chosen this image is because It shows a wide variety of colours in the rock itself, and it has all been naturally formed. I also liked the overall shape of the mineral, as it appears to be almost crystal-like, which makes it seem elegant.

Horses Gallopingu Original image found here: http://www.hurnbridgeec.co.uk/types- equine-insurance/ accessed 24/11/2016 Original image found here:u This is an image of 2 horses galloping through a plain field. The reason I have chosen this image is because I like the angle that the photograph has been taken, as it shows a full on side view of the creature. It also shows all the body working and the way the legs are interacting with the ground, giving insight into how the horse moves. I also thought that I could incorporate more animals into my work, as I prefer to make more mechanical works and not enough organic beings.

Tokyo Skytree (Taken from Sumida Park at Taito-ku) u Original image found here: http://www.goodlucktripjapan.jp/en/article/346.html accessed 24/11/2016 u This is a photograph taken Taito- ku, of the Tokyo Skytree, during the spring season as suggested by the cherry blossoms. I think that the building is an interesting shape, as we can see that the metal twists all the way up to the viewing platforms, making it not a usual Broadcasting tower. I like the setting that the photograph is in as well, as the cherry blossoms give the image a more of a relaxed mood. The colours blend really well in the sky too, which will help me in my own work of how to blend more smoothly and make it look more realistic.Information about it being a broadcasting tower: http://www.tokyo-skytree.jp/en/archive/tower/

Gumont Drag racer Car, 2014u Original image found here: http://www.enginebuildermag.com/2014/02/gumout-partners- with-top-fuel-driver-leah-pritchett-and-dote-racing-for-2014-nhra- mello-yellow-drag-racing-series/ accessed 24/11/2016u I chose this image because it had an unusual shape for a car, but it was designed to be as wind efficient as possible, so that it had no drag. It was also designed to be as fast as possible without being dangerous to drive. I like bright red colour that is used as well, as it attracts more people to look at it. I also like the use of the only one colour, so that it isn’t too ‘over the top’.

Visual Library: Vehicles

To start this process I got one of my own pieces that I made a while back to test on it,as it didn’t have many varying colours. This would mean that it wouldn’t get toocomplex the more I put on it.I started by duplicating the piece, using the ctrl + J tool, and then going toEdit>Transform>Perspective. I then pulled out the top line of the image to stretch itslightly and hit enter to confirm my choice. I did this another 5 times, with each onedragged out slightly further. After this, I hid all of the layers except the original andthe first edit that I made. I then went into the layer blend options and picked‘Screen’. What this did is allowed the top layer to show while having the bottom layervisible, almost like I made it transparent. I then went to the next layer above and didthe same process except this time, I used the ‘Multiply’ blend instead. The reason forthis was because adding a 2nd blend over the top of the existing ones made the imagetoo bright and there wasn’t much clarity left on the main focus (the face). So I usedthe Multiply blend instead to get the same effect as the screen, except it made itslightly darker. This would mean that no clarity was lost. I repeated this for the next 2layers above, then added a ‘Soft Light’ Blend on the final layer to get the image onthe right.I liked using this design, as it adds a more depth in to the piece and makes it seemsomewhat 3D. I would like to try this design again and try and pay more attention tohow much I am dragging the perspective. I would like to try out differentcombinations of layer blends, to see what the results would come out like.
