Awesome Science Facts: Deep Sea Creatures Our planet earth is amazing. It is the only planet in the solar system where life exists. Do you know that there are deep sea creatures? They are animals that live in the part of the ocean that sunlight cannot reach. They live in tough conditions, with too less oxygen, very little food, and where it is too cold all the time. What is more interesting about them is that they can produce light called bioluminescence. This is the reason why they can see in the dark. Castro COASTER Jr. 4C MATERIALS 1.PAPER & PENCIL 2.CARDBOARD BOX 3.DRINKING STRAW 4.HOT GLUE GUN & GLUE STICKS 5.PING PONG BALL 1.Use paper and pencil to plan out and sketch a fun roller coaster for the ping pong ball to follow. 2.Using cardboard box as a base, begin building the roller coaster by attaching straws to it with hot glue. Remember to use 2 parallel straws as the track to hold the ball. 3.Before gluing, test each section out with the ball to make sure the angles work and the track is narrow enough to hold the ball and wide enough that the ball won’t fall easily. 4.Perform several test runs and modify the roller coaster as needed. The Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution started in Great Britain in the 1700’s. The revolution started because many more factories started to be built requiring more materials and faster way to transport them to the factories so that they could manufacture an array of important goods to sustain the country and ensure the expansion of growth. Soon other countries started to understand the importance of upgrading the technology to better help their respective communities to grow.
Here are some of the pioneers of the industrial world and discovered or reinvented things to better enhance the growing world of industry. 1. Robert Fulton Robert Fulton was born in 1785 and died in 1815. He worked in America as an engineer. He also made the first speedboat that was used commercially. The steamboat was also called the Clermont. This invention would inspire many more people to develop other boats and commercial steam boats to innovate on his design.
2. James Watt James Watt was a Scottish medical engineer born in 1736 and died in 1819. He was the person behind the reinvention of the steam engine in 1776. Without his invention of the steam engine, we would not be able exceed previous limitations with older models.
3. Samuel Morse Samuel Morse was born in 1791 and died in 1872. He made a huge breakthrough in 1830’s with the invention of the Morse code which would be used by military personnel throughout the ages and would help save many lives. The Industrial Revolution helped transform from an agrarian economy to a manufacturing economy where products were no longer made by people but replaced by machines. Thus increased the speed of production and efficiency, quality, lower prices, more goods, improved wages, and migration from rural areas to urban areas. History and Geography of Bahrain Bahrain cuisine is an amazing melting pot of delicious flavours from all parts of the world including, India, Pakistan, Iranian, Lebanese and many more. In this DYI project, I attempt to recreate a traditional Bahraini feast with realistic and life-like models of all the foods.
Materials needed: Foam Boards, Traditional Bahraini baskets, Lamination machine and sheets, Modeling Clay, Super Glue, Glue gun, Scissors, Blade Cutter, Coloured assorted foam sheets, Small Food containers, Qahwa cups Food required: Dates- A staple appetizer in most Middle Eastern menus Arabic flatbread- Khubus Bayadh -Scrambled eggs in ghee Harees- Slow cooked oats in milk Falafel -Deep-fried balls made of chickpeas Arabic Coffee Hamsat Nikhee- Fried Chickpeas Samboosa-Small triangular pastry filled with cheese or savoury meat Emmawash-Made with rice and shrimps, black-eyed peas, mung beans & lentils. Jalebi-Spiral shaped crisp & juicy sweet made with all- purpose flour, gram flour & sugar syrup.
Procedure: Assemble all food items by category in each of the small containers and then apply the varnish and hot glue. It requires minimum of 24 hours to set and dry. Prepare the foam boards with the choice of border and decorate it. Assemble the traditional Bahraini baskets on top of the foam boards. Use the hot glue to secure the baskets on the boards. Use the assorted coloured foam sheets to design the menu. Design the labels in the same way and use the assorted coloured foam sheets to decorate. Collect all food containers and set them all around the traditional baskets using the hot glue. Set the Qahwa cups and hot glue them on the foam board.
