The Gestalt Fall 2019 Page 21 Highlights & Upcoming Events This semester, the Xavier University Art Collection was very fortunate to receive not one, but two wonderful donations of art. The first was a collection of early work by renowned sculptor Frank Hayden. These works, which include ceramics and two prints, give hints to Hayden’s future work, which explores religious and social subjects through an abstract aesthetic. Donated by Judith Darensbourg, this gift is a wonderful addition to Xavier’s art collection Frank Hayden ‘57 The legacy of John T. Scott ‘62 was enriched by the donation of a monumental print entitled Spirit House, a collaboration with celebrated sculptor and Xavier alumnus Martin Payton, who was a student of Scott’s. This gift was generously donated by Mr. Alden McDonald, a member of the Xavier Board of Trustees and collector of African American art. The Art Collection is delighted and grateful for these remarkable gifts and looks forward to sharing them with the Xavier community.
