Egypt District 2451 District Governor’s Monthly Newsletter District Governor's Message September 2020 Dear Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors, By your efforts and dedication we have witnessed several milestones accomplishments in our district- D2451-Egypt To start with, we set a strategic meeting with HE.Nevine El Kabaj- Minister of Social Solidarity, to agree on mutual cooperation between Rotary and the Ministry. Also, we proudly launched the new D2451-Website, in its new form and structure that resembles the Rotary Internationals' and which demonstrates our committees, projects, activities and clubs. This was a major acheivement that I would like to thank the IT Committee for. Moreover, we supported our Lebanese fellows in D2452 in their catastrophe. We coordinated with DG Mazen AlUmran and the Ministry of Defence to send an amount of 1 ton of medical supplies, on a military aircraft to their side. I would like to thank the Disaster Relief Committee and the Fund Raising Committee for their tremendous efforts, and to praise the Rotary Clubs who participated generously . On the other hand, we signed a Protocol with the Ministry of Interior, to train the students in the literacy classes-it supervises- using the CLE system, which is another aspect for the active Vocational Committee to pursue. Nevertheless, in our work on the 7 Areas of Focus, we signed another protocol with the international institution for cancer \"SUN\" and \"PMED\" to give awareness sessions about cancer prevention in the social media in arabic language .This was done by sincere work of Cancer Early Detection and Prevention Task Force. In our strategy to increase Rotary knowledge, we have gone along with our Rotary trainings, as the Potential Members awareness sessions and the Assistant Governors' awarness training. The District Training Committee showed great help . Besides, TRF Committee organized Global Grant workshops and the PI Committee arranged awarness sessions about Branding. Finally, I have met with the club presidents and secretaries in their regular meeting to discuss our projects and activities. Globally, RIP Holger Knaack announced \"African Region free of Poliovirus \"on August 25th, which is a memorable date that we will always celebrate. We will \" remain committed to fulfilling our promise of a polio-free world.\" Knaack stated, and \"we have to raise an amount of $50 M to fight Polio\". Friends, I rely on you all to increase our impact and to enhance our ability to adopt. We have a lot to give. Looking forward to seeing you in the Membership and New Generations District Seminar dated 17th October 2020 at Radisson Blu Hotel-Alexandria, before which the Family of Rotary Committee will organize a trip dated 15th and 16th October at Africana resort. District 2451 Egypt District Governor’s Monthly Newsletter Rotary International President’s message September 2020 Rotary youth exchange — one of the many programs for youths and young adults that we celebrate this month — was my path into true engagement in Rotary. My wife, Susanne, and I began hosting exchange students soon after I joined, and the experience helped me go from simply being a member of my Rotary club to being a true Rotarian. Now Rotary Youth Exchange is a family tradition, and a strong one: Over the past 24 years, we have hosted 43 students! From the start, we loved it so much that, in addition to hosting students in our home, we became involved with the program by helping to organize student summer camps. During one such camp, I met Christine Lichtin, who was a German high school student at the time and whose father is a past president of my Rotary club. To try something new during this year of embracing change, I am turning this space, normally reserved for the president of Rotary, over to Christine so she can share her story. My first contact with Rotaract was about 13 years ago, when I was with Susanne and Holger at a barbecue for the summer youth camp. Holger turned to me and said: \"Why don't you visit a Rotaract club? You'll meet a lot of great young people who come together to have fun and to make a difference.\" A few years later, when I was at Trier University, his words came back to me and I decided to give it a try. That was more than eight years ago, and I'm still at it. Once you are in Rotaract, you just don't want to get out. Rotaract has accompanied me everywhere, starting with the Trier club and then on to a club in Bologna, Italy, during the year I studied there. When I was in Kiel for my master's degree, I got involved with Rotaract there before landing at the Rotaract Club of Hamburg-Alstertal as I began my career. Each of those clubs has its own identity and focus, but all have the same intrinsic motivation. I am now taking on a senior advisory role in my Rotaract club, which I really enjoy. I carry Rotaract in my heart, and it shapes my values, even as my interests evolve. One day, as if she had sensed this evolution, Susanne knocked on my door, wanting to introduce me to a young, modern Rotary club located between Hamburg and Mölln, my hometown. The E-Club of Hamburg-Connect, which Susanne helped charter, holds e-meetings, all of them very relaxed and personal. With members of different ages, everything just seemed to fit, so I thought, why not try it out? After all, time is precious and should be filled with fun whenever possible; the rest happens by itself. Now I am in both worlds — a proud member of Rotaract and a Rotarian. And my small personal goal is to build a bridge between these two parallel worlds. All of us have very similar reasons for being part of the Rotary family. It took some persistence to persuade Christine to become a member of Rotary, but it was well worth the effort. It is our duty to put in this kind of effort with youth program participants and Rotaractors so we can keep them in the family of Rotary. I hope you were inspired by her story. It's up to each of us to ensure that more young people like Christine can experience the many ways Rotary Opens Opportunities for us and for the people we serve. Holger Knaack President 2020-21

‫‪Egypt‬‬ ‫‪District 2451‬‬ ‫‪District Governor’s‬‬ ‫‪Monthly Newsletter‬‬ ‫‪‬‬ ‫‪‬‬ ‫ﻧﺤﺘﻔﻞ ﻫﺬا اﻟﺸﻬﺮ ﺑﱪﻧﺎﻣﺞ ﺗﺒﺎدل اﻟﺸﺒﺎب ﻳﺎﻟﺮوﺗﺎري وﻫﻮ واﺣﺪا ﻣﻦ ﻋﺪة ﺑﺮاﻣﺞ ﻣﺨﺼﺼﺔ ﻟﻠﺸﺒﺎب واﻟﻨﺸﺄ ‪ -‬وﻛﺎن أﺣﺪ‬ ‫أﻫﻢ اﻟﻄﺮق اﻟﺘﻲ ﺳﻠﻜﺘﻬﺎ اﻧﺎ ﺷﺨﺼﻴﺎ ﻟﻠﻤﺸﺎرﻛﻪ اﻟﻔﻌﺎﻟﻪ ﰲ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري ‪ .‬ﻟﻘﺪ ﺑﺪأت أﻧﺎ وزوﺟﺘﻲ ﺳﻮزان ﺠﺮد اﻟﺘﺤﺎﻗﻲ‬ ‫ﺑﺎﻟﺮوﺗﺎري ﺑﺎﺳﺘﻀﺎﻓﺔ اﻟﻄﻼب ﻣﻦ ﺧﻼل ﺑﺮاﻣﺞ ﺗﺒﺎدل اﻟﺸﺒﺎب ‪ ،‬وﻗﺪ ﺳﺎﻋﺪﺗﻨﻲ ﻫﺬه اﻟﺘﺠﺮﺑﺔ ﻋﲇ اﻻﻧﺘﻘﺎل ﻣﻦ ﻣﺠﺮد ﻛﻮ‬ ‫ﻋﻀﻮا ﺑﻨﺎدي روﺗﺎري اﱄ روﺗﺎرﻳﺎن ﺣﻘﻴﻘﻲ ‪ .‬ﻓﺎﻻن أﺻﺒﺢ ﺗﺒﺎدل اﻟﺸﺒﺎب اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري ﺗﻘﻠﻴﺪا ﰲ ﻋﺎﺋﻠﺘﻨﺎ ﺑﻞ إﻧﻪ ﺗﻘﻠﻴﺪا ﻗﻮﻳﺎ ﻓﻘﺪ‬ ‫اﺳﺘﻀﻔﻨﺎ ﻋﲇ ﻣﺪار ‪ ٢٤‬ﺳﻨﻪ ﻋﺪد ‪ ٤٣‬ﻃﺎﻟﺒﺎ وﻃﺎﻟﺒﻪ‪.‬‬ ‫ﻟﻘﺪ أﺣﺒﺒﻨﺎ ذﻟﻚ ﻛﺜ ا ﻣﻨﺬ اﻟﺒﺪاﻳﻪ ‪ ،‬ﻓﺒﺎﻹﺿﺎﻓﺔ اﱄ اﺳﺘﻀﺎﻓﻪ ﻃﻼب ﰲ ﺑﻴﺘﻨﺎ ‪ ،‬ﻓﺎﻧﻨﺎ ﻗﺪ اﻧﺨﺮﻃﻨﺎ ﰲ اﻟﱪﻧﺎﻣﺞ ﻣﻦ ﺧﻼل ﻗﻴﺎﻣﻨﺎ‬ ‫ﰲ اﳌﺴﺎﻋﺪه ﰲ ﺗﻨﻈﻴﻢ ﻣﻌﺴﻜﺮات اﻟﺸﺒﺎب ‪ .‬وأﺛﻨﺎء أﺣﺪ ﺗﻠﻚ اﳌﻌﺴﻜﺮات ﻗﺎﺑﻠﺖ ﻛﺮﻳﺴﺘ ﻟﻴﺘﺨﻴ وﻗﺪ ﻛﺎﻧﺖ ﻃﺎﻟﺒﻪ‬ ‫ﺑﺎﻟﺜﺎﻧﻮي ﰲ أﺣﺪ اﳌﺪارس اﻻﳌﺎﻧﻴﻪ ﰲ ذﻟﻚ اﻟﻮﻗﺖ وواﻟﺪﻫﺎ ﻛﺎن رﺋﻴﺴﺎ ﺳﺎﺑﻘﺎ ﻷﺣﺪ أﻧﺪﻳﺔ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري‪ .‬وﻟﺘﺠﺮﺑﺔ ﺷﻴﺌﺎ ﺟﺪﻳﺪا‬ ‫ﻫﺬا اﻟﻌﺎم وﻛﻨﻮع ﻣﻦ اﻟﺘﻐﻴ ﻓﺈﻧﻨﻲ ﺳﻮف اﺗﺮك ﻫﺬا اﳌﻜﺎن واﻟﺬي ﻳﻜﻮن ﻣﺤﺠﻮزا دا ﺎ ﻟﺮﺋﻴﺲ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري ﺳﻮف اﺗﺮﻛﻪ ﻫﺬه‬ ‫اﳌﺮه ﻟﻜﺮﻳﺴﺘ ﻟ ﺗﺤ ﻟﻜﻢ ﻗﺼﺘﻬﺎ ﺑﻨﻔﺴﻬﺎ‪.‬‬ ‫اول اﺗﺼﺎل ﱄ ﺑﺎﻟﺮوﺗﺎراﻛﺖ ﻛﺎن ﻣﻨﺬ ‪ ١٣‬ﻋﺎﻣﺎ ﻋﻨﺪﻣﺎ ﻛﻨﺖ ﺑﺼﺤﺒﺔ ﺳﻮزان وﻫﻮﻟﺠﺮ ﰲ ﺣﻔﻞ ﺷﻮاء ﻌﺴﻜﺮ ﺻﻴﻔﻲ ﻟﻠﺸﺒﺎب‪.‬‬ ‫وﻗﺘﻬﺎ اﻟﺘﻔﺖ ﻫﻮﻟﺠﺮ ﻧﺎﺣﻴﺘﻲ وﻗﺎل ﱄ \" ﳌﺎ ﻻ ﺗﺰورﻳﻦ ﻧﺎدي اﻟﺮوﺗﺎراﻛﺖ ؟ ﺳﻮف ﺗﻠﺘﻘ ﺑﺸﺒﺎب راﺋﻌ ﺟﺎءوا ﻣﻌﺎ ﻟﻠﻤﺘﻌﻪ‬ ‫وﻟﺼﻨﺎﻋﺔ اﻟﻔﺎرق \"‪.‬‬ ‫وﺑﻌﺪﻫﺎ ﺑﺴﻨﻮات ﻗﻠﻴﻠﺔ ﻋﻨﺪﻣﺎ ﻛﻨﺖ ﰲ ﺟﺎﻣﻌﺔ ﺗ ﻳﺮ ﺗﺬﻛﺮت ﻛﻠ ﺗﻪ وﻗﺮرت أن أﺧﻮض اﻟﺘﺠﺮﺑﻪ ‪ .‬ﻛﺎن ذﻟﻚ ﻣﻨﺬ أﻛ ﻣﻦ‬ ‫‪ ٨‬ﺳﻨﻮات وﻣﺎزﻟﺖ ﻣﺘﻮاﺟﺪة ﺑﺎﻟﺮوﺗﺎرﻛﺖ ﺣﺘﻲ اﻵن ‪ .‬اﻧﻚ ﺠﺮد أن ﺗﻠﺘﺤﻖ ﺑﺎﻟﺮوﺗﺎراﻛﺖ ﻓﺈﻧﻚ ﻟﻦ ﺗﺮﻏﺐ ﰲ أن ﺗﱰﻛﻪ ‪ .‬ﻟﻘﺪ‬ ‫اﺻﻄﺤﺒﺖ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎرﻛﺖ ﻣﻌﻲ اﱄ ﻛﻞ ﻣﻜﺎن ﺑﺪاﻳﺔ ﻣﻦ ﻧﺎدي ﺗ ﻳﺮ ﺛﻢ ﰲ ﻧﺎدي ﺑﻮﻟﻮﻧﻴﺎ ﺑﺈﻳﻄﺎﻟﻴﺎ ﺧﻼل اﻟﻌﺎم اﻟﺬي درﺳﺖ ﻓﻴﻪ‬ ‫ﻫﻨﺎك ‪ .‬وﻋﻨﺪﻣﺎ ﻛﻨﺖ ﰲ ﻛﻴﻴﻞ ﻟﺪراﺳﺔ اﳌﺎﺟﺴﺘ أﻳﻀﺎ اﻟﺘﺤﻘﺖ ﺑﺎﻟﺮوﺗﺎراﻛﺖ ﻫﻨﺎك ﻗﺒﻞ أن اﻟﺘﺤﻖ ﺑﻌﺪﻫﺎ ﺑﻨﺎدي روﺗﺎراﻛﺖ‬ ‫ﻫﻤﺒﻮرح ‪-‬اﻟﻴﺴﱰال وﻛﻨﺖ وﻗﺘﻬﺎ ﻗﺪ ﺑﺪأت ﻣ رﺳﺔ ﻣﻬﻨﺘﻲ ‪ .‬ﻛﻞ ﺗﻠﻚ اﻷﻧﺪﻳﺔ ﻛﺎن ﻟﻜﻞ ﻣﻨﻬﺎ ﺷﺨﺼﻴﺘﻪ وﻫﻮﻳﺘﻪ وﻣﺤﻮر‬ ‫ﺗﺮﻛﻴﺰه اﻟﺨﺎص ﺑﻪ وﻟﻜﻨﻬﻢ ﺟﻤﻴﻌﺎ ﻛﺎن ﻟﺪﻳﻬﻢ ﻧﻔﺲ اﻟﺪاﻓﻌﻴﻪ واﻟﺘﺤﻔﻴﺰ اﻟﺪاﺧﲇ‪.‬‬ ‫إﻧﻨﻲ اﻵن اﻣﺎرس دورا اﺳﺘﺸﺎرﻳﺎ أﻛﱪ ﰲ ﻧﺎدي اﻟﺮوﺗﺎراﻛﺖ واﺳﺘﻤﺘﻊ ﺟﺪا ﺑﻬﺬا اﻟﺪور ‪ .‬اﻧﻨﻲ اﺣﻤﻞ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎراﻛﺖ ﰲ ﻗﻠﺒﻲ‬ ‫وﺑﺎت ﻳﺸﻜﻞ ﻗﻴﻤﻲ واﻫﺘ ﻣﺎ ‪ ..‬وﰲ ﻳﻮم ﻣﺎ وﻗﺪ اﺳﺘﺸﻌﺮت ﺳﻮزان أن اﻫﺘ ﻣﺎ ﻗﺪ ﻛﱪت ﻛﺜ ا ‪ ،‬ﻗﺎﻣﺖ ﺳﻮزان ﺑﻄﺮق‬ ‫اﻟﺒﺎب وﻗﺪﻣﺘﻨﻲ اﱄ أﺣﺪ أﻧﺪﻳﺔ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري اﻟﻨﺎﺷﺌﺔ ﺣﺪﻳﺜﺎ واﻟﺬي ﻳﻘﻊ ﺑ ﻫﺎﻣﺒﻮرج وﻣﺴﻘﻂ رأﳼ ﰲ ﻣﻮﻟﻦ وﻫﻮ ﻧﺎدي‬ ‫ﻫﺎﻣﺒﻮرج اﻻﻟﻴﻜﱰو واﻟﺬي ﺳﺎﻋﺪت ﺳﻮزان ﰲ ﺗﺄﺳﻴﺴﻪ واﻟﺬي ﻳﻌﻘﺪ اﺟﺘ ﻋﺎﺗﻪ ﻋﻦ ﺑﻌﺪ ﺑﺸﻜﻞ أﻛ اﺳﱰﺧﺎء وﺧﺼﻮﺻﻴﻪ‬ ‫‪ .‬وﻣﻊ أﻋﻀﺎء ﻣﻦ ﻣﺨﺘﻠﻒ اﻷﻋ ر ﺑﺪى ﻛﻞ ﳽء ﱄ ﻣﻨﺎﺳﺒﺎ وﻗﻠﺖ ﻟﻨﻔﴘ ﳌﺎ ﻻ اﺟﺮب ذﻟﻚ ﻓﻔﻲ اﻟﻨﻬﺎﻳﻪ اﻟﻮﻗﺖ ﺷﺊ‬ ‫وﻳﺠﺐ أن ﻸه ﺑﺎﺷﻴﺎء ﻣﻤﺘﻌﻪ ﻗﺪر اﻹﻣﻜﺎن واﻟﺒﺎﻗﻲ ﺳﻴﺤﺪث ﻣﻦ ﺗﻠﻘﺎء ﻧﻔﺴﻪ‪.‬‬ ‫اﻧﺎ اﻻن ﰲ ﻋﺎﳌ ‪ ..‬ﻋﻀﻮ روﺗﺎراﻛﺖ واﻓﺘﺨﺮ وﻋﻀﻮ روﺗﺎري ﰲ ذات اﻟﻮﻗﺖ وﻫﺪﰲ اﻟﺸﺨﴢ اﻟﺼﻐ ﻫﻮ ﻣﺪ اﻟﺠﺴﻮر ﺑ‬ ‫ﻫﺬﻳﻦ اﻟﻌﺎﳌ اﳌﺘﻮازﻳ ‪ .‬ﺟﻤﻴﻌﻨﺎ ﻟﺪﻳﻨﺎ أﺳﺒﺎﺑﺎ ﻣﺘﺸﺎﺑﻬﻪ ﺗﺠﻌﻠﻨﺎ ﺟﺰءا ﻣﻦ اﻟﻌﺎﺋﻠﺔ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎرﻳﺔ‪.‬‬ ‫ﻟﻘﺪ ﺗﻄﻠﺐ اﻷﻣﺮ ﺑﻌﺾ اﻹﻟﺤﺎح واﳌﺜﺎﺑﺮة ﻹﻗﻨﺎع ﻛﺮﻳﺴﺘ ﰲ أن ﺗﺼﺒﺢ ﻋﻀﻮا ﺑﺎﻟﺮوﺗﺎري وﻟﻜﻦ ﻫﺬا اﻟﺠﻬﺪ ﻛﺎن ﴐورﻳﺎ ‪ .‬إﻧﻪ‬ ‫ﻣﻦ واﺟﺒﻨﺎ أن ﻧﺒﺬل ﻫﺬا اﻟﺠﻬﺪ ﰲ ﺑﺮاﻣﺞ اﻟﺸﺒﺎب واﻟﺮوﺗﺎراﻛﺖ ﻟ ﻧﺴﺘﻄﻴﻊ اﳌﺤﺎﻓﻈﺔ ﻋﻠﻴﻬﻢ ﰲ اﻟﻌﺎﺋﻠﻪ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎرﻳﺔ‪ .‬أ ﻨﻲ‬ ‫أن ﺗﻜﻮن ﻗﺼﺔ ﻛﺮﻳﺴﺘ ﻣﻠﻬﻤﺔ ﻟﻜﻢ ‪ .‬اﻷﻣﺮ ﻳﺘﻮﻗﻒ ﻋﲇ ﻛﻞ واﺣﺪ ﻣﻨﺎ وﻛﻴﻒ ﻜﻨﻪ أن ﻳﺠﻌﻞ ﺷﺒﺎب ﻛﺜ ﻳﻦ ﻣﺜﻞ‬ ‫ﻛﺮﻳﺴﺘ ﺎرﺳﻮن وﻳﺠﺮﺑﻮن ﻛﻴﻒ ﻳﻔﺘﺢ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري اﻟﻔﺮص ﻟﻨﺎ وﻟﻠﻨﺎس اﻟﺬﻳﻦ ﻧﻘﻮم ﺑﺨﺪﻣﺘﻬﻢ‬ ‫ﻫﻮﻟﺠﺮ ﻧﺎك‬ ‫رﺋﻴﺲ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري اﻟﺪوﱄ‬ ‫‪٢٠٢٠/٢٠٢١‬‬

We ،‫ﺑﻌﺪ اﻟﺘﺤﻴﻪ‬ have important work ahead of us at Rotary, and we are going to have a lot of fun as we do it. ‫ أﻣﺎﻣﻨﺎ ﻋﻤﻞ ﻣﻬﻢ ﰲ‬.‫ﻳﴩﻓﻨﻲ أن أﻋﻤﻞ ﻣﻌﻜﻢ ﻛﺮﺋﻴﺲ ﻫﺬا اﻟﻌﺎم‬ .‫ وﺳﻨﺴﺘﻤﺘﻊ ﻛﺜ ًا أﻳﻀﺎ أﺛﻨﺎء ﻗﻴﺎﻣﻨﺎ ﺑﺬﻟﻚ اﻟﻌﻤﻞ‬، ‫اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري‬ Last year, we launched our five-year Action Plan to build a stronger future for Rotary. We are working to increase our ‫ أﻃﻠﻘﻨﺎ ﺧﻄﺔ اﻟﻌﻤﻞ اﻟﺨﻤﺴﻴﺔ ﻟﺒﻨﺎء ﻣﺴﺘﻘﺒﻞ أﻗﻮى‬، ‫ﰲ اﻟﻌﺎم اﳌﺎﴈ‬ impact, expand our reach, enhance participant ، ‫ وﺗﻮﺳﻴﻊ ﻧﻄﺎق وﺻﻮﻟﻨﺎ‬، ‫ ﻓﻨﺤﻦ ﻧﻌﻤﻞ ﻋﲆ زﻳﺎدة ﺗﺄﺛ ﻧﺎ‬.‫ﻟﻠﺮوﺗﺎري‬ engagement, and increase our ability to adapt. The last several months have shown that we — as Rotarians and ‫ ﻟﻘﺪ‬.‫ وزﻳﺎدة ﻗﺪرﺗﻨﺎ ﻋﲆ اﻟﺘﻜﻴﻒ‬، ‫وﺗﻌﺰﻳﺰ ﻣﺸﺎرﻛﺔ اﳌﺸﺎرﻛ‬ Rotaractors — can realize these goals as we forge a new ‫ ﺑﺼﻔﺘﻨﺎ أﻋﻀﺎء ﰲ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري و‬- ‫أﻇﻬﺮت اﻷﺷﻬﺮ اﻟﻌﺪﻳﺪة اﳌﺎﺿﻴﺔ أﻧﻨﺎ‬ path for the future. ‫ ﻜﻨﻨﺎ ﺗﺤﻘﻴﻖ ﻫﺬه اﻷﻫﺪاف ﺑﻴﻨ ﻧﺼﻮغ ﻣﺴﺎ ًرا‬- ‫اﻟﺮوﺗﺎراﻛﺖ‬ Without question, COVID-19 has posed new and previously .‫ﺟﺪﻳ ًﺪا ﻟﻠﻤﺴﺘﻘﺒﻞ‬ unimaginable challenges for Rotary. But within every challenge is perhaps an even greater opportunity. And while ‫ ﺗﺤﺪﻳﺎت ﺟﺪﻳﺪة ﻳﻜﻦ ﻣﻦ اﳌﻤﻜﻦ‬١٩ ‫ ﻃﺮح ﻛﻮﻓﻴﺪ‬، ‫ﺑﺪون ﺷﻚ‬ I could not have known what lay ahead when I selected my ‫ وﻟﻜﻦ ﰲ ﻛﻞ ﺗﺤﺪ ر ﺎ ﻳﻜﻮن‬.‫ﺗﺼﻮرﻫﺎ ﺳﺎﺑ ًﻘﺎ ﻣﻦ ﻗﺒﻞ ﰲ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري‬ theme for the year, Rotary Opens Opportunities has even greater relevance as we begin our new Rotary year. ‫ وﻋﲆ اﻟﺮﻏﻢ ﻣﻦ أﻧﻨﻲ أﻛﻦ أﻋﺮف ﻣﺎ اﻟﺬي‬.‫ﻫﻨﺎك ﻓﺮﺻﺔ أﻛﱪ‬ ‫ إﻻ \"أن اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري ﻳﻔﺘﺢ‬، ‫ﻳﻨﺘﻈﺮ ﻋﻨﺪﻣﺎ اﺧﱰت ﻣﻮﺿﻮﻋﻲ ﻟﻬﺬا اﻟﻌﺎم‬ I am incredibly inspired by how our members have adapted and responded to COVID-19. This global pandemic has ‫اﻟﻔﺮص\" ﺳﻴﻜﻮن ﻣﻮﺿﻮﻋﺎ ﻣﻨﺎﺳﺒﺎﺟﺪاﻋﻨﺪﻣﺎ ﻧﺒﺪأ ﻋﺎﻣﻨﺎ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري‬ made it difficult for many of our clubs to operate as usual, .‫اﻟﺠﺪﻳﺪ‬ but we persevered, and over the past few months, I've enjoyed connecting with my fellow Rotarians and ‫ﻟﻘﺪ أﻟﻬﻤﺘﻨﻲ ﺑﺸﻜﻞ ﻻ ﻳﺼﺪق ﻛﻴﻒ ﺗﻜﻴﻒ أﻋﻀﺎﺋﻨﺎ واﺳﺘﺠﺎﺑﻮا ﻟـ‬ Rotaractors in a new way: by visiting hundreds of clubs ‫ ﻟﻘﺪ ﺟﻌﻞ ﻫﺬا اﻟﻮﺑﺎء اﻟﻌﺎﳌﻲ ﻣﻦ اﻟﺼﻌﺐ ﻋﲆ اﻟﻌﺪﻳﺪ‬.١٩ ‫ﻛﻮﻓﻴﺪ‬ from my home. It's been fun to attend so many meetings ‫ وﻋﲆ ﻣﺪار اﻷﺷﻬﺮ اﻟﻘﻠﻴﻠﺔ‬، ‫ ﻟﻜﻨﻨﺎ ﺛﺎﺑﺮﻧﺎ‬، ‫ﻣﻦ أﻧﺪﻳﺘﻨﺎ اﻟﻌﻤﻞ ﻛﺎﳌﻌﺘﺎد‬ virtually. A message from District 2451 Egypt Foundation Trustees Chair K.R Ravindran District Governor’s Monthly Newsletter September 2020 In late 1914, Europe was divided by hundreds of miles of trenches. British and French forces on one side were within shouting distance of German troops on the other. The pope made a plea for a Christmas truce, but the shooting continued. Then, on Christmas Eve, soldiers from behind British lines heard an unexpected sound — not gunfire, but singing. Next, they heard a single voice shout out, \"English soldier, merry Christmas!\" followed by \"English soldier, come out to join us!” Both sides cautiously emerged over the parapet into the no man's land between the trenches. Before long, the soldiers realized that it was a real truce. They fraternized, singing Christmas carols, exchanging souvenirs and whiskey, and even taking up a friendly soccer match. The cease-fire continued only two days before the troops returned to their trenches, resuming bloodshed for nearly four long years. But the story of the Christmas truce reminds us that peace is possible, if we choose to accept it. If peace can last a few days, could it not also last months or years? And how do we prevent conflict in the first place? In his Nobel Peace Prize lecture in 1964, American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. said, \"We must concentrate not merely on the negative expulsion of war, but on the positive affirmation of peace.” With Positive Peace, our society's structures, policies, and everyday attitudes and actions promote justice at all levels, sustaining a peaceful coexistence. It's an answer to the calls for justice and peace we have heard on the streets in protests from Minneapolis to Paris this year. Positive Peace, studied at our Rotary Peace Centers around the world, is not just an academic idea for the Rotary Peace Fellows. Through Rotary's partnership with the Institute for Economics and Peace, the Rotary Positive Peace Academy offers free training to every Rotary member on how to wage Positive Peace in every project we do at the grassroots level, including Foundation grants. Positive Peace resonates at all levels of The Rotary Foundation. Our literacy projects help children gain equal access to literacy, so opposing sides on an issue can understand each other better. Through our Foundation grants that provide clean water, communities gain stability, as more children stay in school rather than fetching water for hours on end. Our role as civil society leaders who wage Positive Peace will continue to expand, not only through partnerships and more grants, but also through our hearts, minds, and hands as we offer our gifts to make the world a better place.

District 2451 Egypt District Governor’s Monthly Newsletter ‫دﻋﻢ اﻟﺒﻴﺌﺔ ﻳﺼﺒﺢ أﺣﺪ ﻣﺠﺎﻻت ﺗﺮﻛﻴﺰﻧﺎ‬ Supporting the environment becomes an area of focus Rotary has a new area of focus — supporting the ‫ ﺑﻌﺪ‬- ‫ دﻋﻢ اﻟﺒﻴﺌﺔ‬- ‫اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري أﺻﺒﺢ ﻟﺪﻳﻪ ﻣﺠﺎل ﺟﺪﻳﺪ ﻟﻠﱰﻛﻴﺰ‬ environment — after a unanimous vote by The Rotary ‫ﺗﺼﻮﻳﺖ ﺑﺎﻹﺟ ع ﻣﻦ ﻗﺒﻞ ﻣﺠﻠﺲ أﻣﻨﺎء اﳌﺆﺳﺴﺔ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎرﻳﺔ‬ Foundation Trustees and the RI Board of Directors. Rotary has long supported activities that sustain the ‫ ﻟﻄﺎﳌﺎ دﻋﻢ اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري اﻷﻧﺸﻄﺔ اﻟﺘﻲ‬.‫وﻣﺠﻠﺲ إدارة اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري اﻟﺪوﱄ‬ environment, and in the past five years we have ١٨ ‫ وﰲ اﻟﺴﻨﻮات اﻟﺨﻤﺲ اﳌﺎﺿﻴﺔ ﺧﺼﺼﻨﺎ‬، ‫ﺗﺤﺎﻓﻆ ﻋﲆ اﻟﺒﻴﺌﺔ‬ allocated $18 million to such projects through global grants tied to other areas of focus. Adding the ‫ﻣﻠﻴﻮن دوﻻر ﳌﺜﻞ ﻫﺬه اﳌﺸﺎرﻳﻊ ﻣﻦ ﺧﻼل اﳌﻨﺢ اﻟﻌﺎﳌﻴﺔ اﳌﺮﺗﺒﻄﺔ‬ environment as a distinct cause formalizes our ‫ إن إﺿﺎﻓﺔ اﻟﺒﻴﺌﺔ ﻛﻘﻀﻴﺔ ﻣﻤﻴﺰة ﺗﻀﻔﻲ‬.‫ﺠﺎﻻت اﻟﱰﻛﻴﺰ اﻷﺧﺮي‬ longtime community-based efforts and will give ‫اﻟﻄﺎﺑﻊ اﻟﺮﺳﻤﻲ ﻋﲆ ﺟﻬﻮدﻧﺎ اﳌﺠﺘﻤﻌﻴﺔ اﻟﻄﻮﻳﻠﺔ وﺳﺘﻔﺘﺢ أﻣﺎم‬ Rotary members more ways to increase our global ‫أﻋﻀﺎء اﻟﺮوﺗﺎري اﳌﺰﻳﺪ ﻣﻦ اﻟﺴﺒﻞ ﻟﺰﻳﺎدة ﺗﺄﺛ ﻧﺎ اﻟﻌﺎﳌﻲ وﺗﻮﺳﻴﻊ‬ impact and expand our reach. ‫ﺗﻌﻤﻞ اﳌﺆﺳﺴﺔ ﻋﲆ ﺗﻄﻮﻳﺮ ﻣﻌﺎﻳ اﻷﻫﻠﻴﺔ واﻟﺼﻼﺣﻴﺔ‬.‫ﻧﻄﺎق وﺻﻮﻟﻨﺎ‬ The Foundation is developing the eligibility criteria for ‫ وﺳﻴﻜﻮن ﻟﺪﻳﻬﺎ اﳌﺰﻳﺪ ﻣﻦ‬،‫ﻟﻠﺤﺼﻮل ﻋﲆ اﳌﻨﺢ ﰲ ﻣﺠﺎل ﺗﺮﻛﻴﺰﻧﺎ ﻫﺬا‬ grants in this area of focus and will have more information beginning in October. It will start ‫ ﺣﻴﺚ ﺳﻨﺒﺪأ ﰲ ﻗﺒﻮل ﻃﻠﺒﺎت اﳌﻨﺢ‬،‫اﳌﻌﻠﻮﻣﺎت اﺑﺘﺪا ًء ﻣﻦ أﻛﺘﻮﺑﺮ‬ accepting global grant applications focused on the .٢٠٢١ ‫ ﻳﻮﻟﻴﻮ‬١ ‫اﻟﺪوﻟﻴﺔ اﻟﺘﻲ ﺗﺮﻛﺰ ﻋﲆ اﻟﺒﻴﺌﺔ ﰲ‬ environment on 1 July 2021.

District 2451 Egypt District Governor’s Monthly Newsletter AFRICAN REGION CERTIFIED WILD POLIO-FREE Dear Rotarians, It our pleasure to announce to you that the African region has just been certified wild poliovirus-free. Rotary members have played an invaluable role in the effort to rid the African region of wild polio. We should be proud of all the hard work that we've done to eliminate the wild poliovirus throughout Africa and in nearly every country in the world. This progress is the result of a decades-long effort across the 47 countries of the African region. It has involved millions of health workers traveling by foot, boat, bike and bus, innovative strategies to vaccinate children amid conflict and insecurity, and a huge disease surveillance network to test cases of paralysis and check sewage for the virus. Over the last two decades, countless Rotary members in countries across the African region and around the world have worked together to raise funds, immunize children, advocate with local and national leaders, and raise awareness about the importance of vaccination, enabling the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) to effectively respond to and stop polio outbreaks. This milestone is an incredible public health achievement for Rotary members, the African region, and our GPEI partners, and a huge step forward on the road to global polio eradication. But we still have important work to do in order to eradicate wild polio in the last two endemic countries. We have faced many challenges in our journey to eradicate polio. But we've made remarkable progress, and the polio infrastructure that Rotarians helped build will serve as a lasting legacy that will continue to help protect vulnerable children against other diseases for decades to come. We are calling on you today to recommit yourselves to ending polio. We need each and every one of you to help finish this fight and continue raising $50 million each year for PolioPlus. The eradication of wild polio in the African region shows us that polio eradication is achievable, and shows how our hard work, partnerships and financial commitment continue to propel us forward, even during a global pandemic.
