Credit to Tony Rotundo for original images Stanford* wrestlers opted to represent themselves through plain black uniforms to show that they were wrestling for themselves and each other, but not the school that had dropped the program. In a similar way, this represented the lack of university support during the entire season and how they were able to find competitive success despite the circumstances. Black singlets were used in all competitions for this season and the other 10 sports adopted similar ideas, often crossing out the Stanford in their uniforms. Training in these conditions, the team qualified athletes in seven of ten weight classes for nationals where they went 16-10 in matches. The ability to compete after an unusual season demonstrates their competitive excellence. They then proceeded to sweep the PAC-12 awards where Shane Griffith was named the PAC-12 wrestler of the year, Jaden Abas earned Newcomer of the Year, and Jason Borelli was named Coach of the Year. Additionally, under the current coach Jason Borelli over 13 years, the Stanford Wrestling program has accumulated a record of 122-86 wins to losses since 2008.
