CRESCIT THE OFFICIAL STUDENT PUBLICATION OF DE LA SALLE LIPA VOLUME 1 | NO. 2 SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Editor's Note There is a first time for everything. It starts with wonder coupled with fear but there is always excitement in every first. First walk, first bicycle ride, first wound, first love, first heartbreak! Of course, the current trend, first 12 years of education. This generation has coped with these strange realities except with the new face of the education curriculum — the yet to be discovered unfamiliar place where youth ages from sixteen to eighteen get to be handed with VIP passes, the still undiscovered phenomenon for the new millennials. There is a big maze of tactility and change where one may feel exhausted, confused, crammed, crapped. Others are calmed and relieved. As the fronliner for the cataloguing of the many firsts, the Crescit magazine has been created to fill in the gaps and to serve as a physical representation of the pioneer’s growth. We hope that in this humble beginning, strangers would become friends, plans would transform into actions, fear into courage, emptiness into possibilities, and great wonders into realities. Let us make our first times last! Veronica Lorraine Medrano Editor-in-Chief

ABOUT THE COVER The thing about change is that it’s not always what we expect. We didn’t expect the two additional years of high school. We didn’t anticipate everything of the first semester. Even now, we remain uncertain of what will come as we try to survive the second semester, or what we’ll be facing in 12th grade. Still, we push on. We accept change as it is: the sole constant among everything that is temporary. Buildings will crumble and people will pass. These hallways will be empty of the busy we grew accustomed to. The teachers we once had to see three times a week would become a footnote in the story of our high school lives. The classmates will turn in to mere Facebook friends, the ex-lovers nothing but a punch line to our jokes. At the end of the day, when everything is different and we are left with nothing but ourselves, we will learn. We can’t hold on to our pasts forever. The blueprints to the rest of our lives are yet to materialize, and we should always leave some gaps to fill... in case anything needs a little change. 12 Literary Picture Perfect by Meliah Cueto “Don’t lean back on the chair,” the photographer said as he adjusted the camera. I sat up straight, but also tried to relax my shoulders. Scanning the room, I see my classmates busying themselves with varied things. Most of them are holding their phones up as a makeshift mirror, making sure that they look their best. After all, graduating--moving up, I mean-- from junior high school as part of the pioneer batch of K-12 in the Philippines is NOT a big deal. It was then that I was hit by an overwhelming wave of nostalgia; all the memories of the four years I’ve spent with all these incredible people that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I miss them already. “Ate, smile, in 3, 2, 1!” My thoughts are interrupted and I flashed what I wish was a dashing smile, but alas! It was too late.
