SteLpMiEhDeIEegVAneL od A famous composer, greatly known by his Gregorian chant. Bibliography Stephen of Liege also known as Entienne de liege was born on the late 850 in the low lands. He was a frankish churchman, bishop of liege from 901 up to his death on 920. He was a hagiographer and a known composer of the church music. Musical Background He was a composer for the church music. He created different music for the church that are still being played in this day. It is also said that Stephen's compositions are made up of eight modes. Great Works Some of his recognizable and beloved works includes: 1) In Festi Sanctisissimae Trinitatis, 2) Gregorian Chant, 3) Berno of Reibhenau, 4) Adam de la Halle, 5) Come all ye, 6) 2 stars Musical Style The musical style mostly used by Stephen was religious/sacred. Although, there is still another musical style that dominates the medieval era, that is secular.
RENAISSANCE
RENAISSANCE The renaissance period spans from 1400 - 1600; it is the era of music after the medieval. It is also seen as the era of growth for polyphonic music. A beginning for the distinction of harmony, rhythm, and musical notation. A mix of new musical instruments and holdovers were attributed on this era which includes: Harpsichord, Clavichord, Viol, Lute, Rebec, Lyre, Guitar, Recorder, Cornet, Trumpet, Trombone (known at the time as sackbut), Tambourine, and Transverse flute. Joaquin Des Prez Joaquin Des Prez was born on 1450 in Burgundian Hainaut France and died on 1521. He is considered as one of the greatest composers of the Renaissance period creating songs using the old cantus firmus style. He is also considered by a lot of music scholars to be the first master of the high renaissance style of polyphonic voice. Musical Background Josquin was a professional singer throughout his life. He was a Franco-Flemish composer of the Renaissance and was considered as the most famous European composer between Guillaume Dufay and Palestrina. His works are usually considered to be the central figure of the Franco-Flemish School. Great Works His works are still recognizable up until this day, where they use it as an example for children to distinguish the music of the different eras. Some of his works includes: 1) Ave Maria ... Virgo Serena, 2) Mille regretz, 3) Missa Pange Lingua, 4) Ave Maria, 5) Nymphes des bois Musical Style Josquin usually compose between three genres namely the mass, motet, and chanson. He usually uses the old cantus firmus style but he also developed the motet style which were characterized after him. Moreover, his musical style can best be described as a fusion of Franco-Flemish polyphony, a combination of many melodies heard simultaneously.
BAROQUE
BAROQUE CLAUDIO MONTEVERDI BIBILIOGRAPHY Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi was born on 1567. He was a famous Italian composer of both secular and sacred music, choirmaster, and string player. In addition, he is a student of Marc' Antonio Ingegneri in Cromonia. MUSICAL BACKGROUND Claudio was an Italian composer. He basically invented the opera, and his other secular pieces, especially his madrigals, were hugely influential on the developing Baroque style. GREAT WORKS His works are recognized around the world, some of his works include: 1) L' Orfeo, 2) Vespro della Beata Vergine, 3) Lasciatemi morire, 4) Salva Morale e spirituale, and 5) the Vespers MUSICAL STYLE He developed two styles of composition: the heritage of Renaissance polyphony and the new basso continuo technique of the Baroque. He always gives a space for the emphasis of emotions.

CLASSICAL Ludwig Van Beethoven The classical era was from 1730 - 1820 and has 3 distinctive characteristics namely: simplicity, classicism, and increased accessibility. These three are dominant on the era. 1. Bibliography Ludwig Van Beethoven, born on 1770 in Bonn Germany, is a German composer and pianist. He was a predominant musical figure in the transitional period between the Classical and Romantic eras. 2. Musical Background His talent for music was obvious at an early age. His father recognizes this talent so he harshly and intensively taught him music. He was being promoted as the next child prodigy, the next Mozart. He gave his first public performance at the age of eight. He was also then taught by the composer and conductor Christian Gottlob Neefe, under whose tutelage he published his first work, a set of keyboard variations, in 1783. 3. Great Works Beethoven is one of the most recognizable musician ever lived. Some of his works are: 1) Symphony no. 5, 2) Piano Sonata no. 14, 3) Fur Elise, 4) Symphony no. 7, and 5) Turkish March 4. Musical Style Beethoven's style involves the mixture of romantic and classic and an influenced by the western classical tradition.
