MERIT SECTION Principal's Prerna Arora Trophy Topper XI-Commerce School Prefect Student Editor It is truly an honour to receive the most coveted award the school confers on a student. It is not only this ultimate honour, but the remarkable journey culminating in it as well for which I feel grateful and thank our Principal, Mr. R.D. Singh. Through these years of adolescence, when students are at their most vulnerable, struggling to reconcile with the mounting pressure of board exams, the school provides excellent environment conducive to learning with proper infrastructure and a host of opportunities to explore and expand wings. The school truly nurtures and mentors through the times of uncertainty. A little nudge here, a few words of encouragement there help students conquer their worst fears. With the support of the teachers here, I realized that I was capable of so much more than I had ever thought before. In the modest grey uniform with the magical words “Inspiration Aspiration, Perspiration” proudly displayed on it, from ducklings to swans, students blossom under the care of this great institution of 58 years, ready to take on the world! Bhagat Singh wrote: forts made by students in staging the play. “Adolescence is the spring season of human life. On attaining this age a human being gets enraptured. An immense quantity, not less than thousands of bottles of intoxication overwhelms him. Adolescence contains in itself the glory of a shining dawn, splendor of an evening and the awful horror of a mid- night of the last of the dark lunar fortnight of the month of Bhadon, i.e. August-September. As a bomb in the pocket of a revolutionary, a loaded pistol of an intriguer and a sword in the hand of a warrior remain impatient to surge, similar is the condition of adolescence that swirls in the body of a human being. Therefore, an adolescent can either mount on the highest peak of progress or fall down in a dark ditch of degeneration…If he desires, he can redeem a society and humanity. He can be the saviour of a country’s honour. He can bring grace to a nation’s name. Without an adolescent, who can donate blood? O, Indian youth, you are ignorant and sleeping carelessly. Open your eyes and see the light of the rising sun. Don’t sleep more.” Ishwar Dayal Gaur Professor of History Panjab University, Chandigarh Best Sportsman - Amit Bhagat Singh received martyrdom at the age of twenty-four.In people’s memory he survives as Shahid- Principal's Trophy - Prerna Arora E-Azam, the great martyr. During his life time, the countryside of India echoed with his heroics, and in every city and township his photograph was on sale. Such was the scale of the popularity of Bhagat Singh who, along with his two comrades, Rajguru and Sukhdev, kissed the gallows in Lahore jail on 23 March 1931. The revolutionary life of this young intellectual in the making has been viewed from various perspec- tives. Bhagat Singh was a voracious reader and prolific writer. He is said to have been reading Lenin when he was to be taken to the gallows. One wonders how many of his contemporary Indian leaders knew then that they had lost in him a man who, had he lived, might have had an incalculable impact on the course of India’s politics. Far superior of his times, he wrote on numerous subjects – politics, God, religion, language, art, litera- ture, culture, love, beauty and suicide. He often cited characters from the Indian epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata, and the shabads of Guru Nanak, Guru Gobind Singh and Bhagat Kabir.
