June 2020 DPS Newsletter June started with us somewhat getting back to normal. Our construction jobs are going strong especially with the cooperative weather. Our team continues to be healthy with everyone complying with the safety precautions put in place to protect the city employees as well as our residents. The following projects are all in process: Austin Ave. • 2020 Concrete Program – Concrete Removal & Replacement Concrete Program in various locations throughout the City • 2020 Hot Mixed Asphalt/Pathway Programs – Mill & Resurfacing in various locations – 80% done • Crooks Road Pathway – Adding pathway in gaps along Crooks Road • Auburn Road – Improvements continue including the addition of a Splash Pad & Plaza • Dequindre Road – reconstruction & widening from West Utica Road to Collins Avenue • M-59 – Micro cold milling and ultra-thin overlay between Woodward and Crooks Road • Traffic Signal upgrade at Adams and Tienken • Watermain Project – Tienken Ct, Bedford Square and Gildewell neighborhoods Beginning Soon: • Preservation Overlay on Avon Rd between Livernois and Dequindre • Rochester Road – paver placed surface seal between Avon and Clinton River Bridge • Adams Road – embankment and guardrail repairs between Avon an Walton HMA Program John R I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where it was always June. FLEET HAPPY RETIREMENT TO BRUCE HALLIDAY!! After 39 years Bruce retired on June 3rd. Nick Watterson has stepped in as Interim Fleet Manager As Bruce retired, he received two exciting honors via a Virtual Award Ceremony! • He was inducted into the APWA Fleet Manager Hall of Fame. • He was this year’s recipient of the Nationally recognized Legendary Lifetime Achievement Award.
