["CITY BEAUTIFICATION Every city has a place that is most ignored, least utilized or badly maintained which end up being waste pilling area or a place for inappropriate practices. While every place in the city is our utmost pride, such places (we are calling them 'ugly spots') cause a dent in the city's impression. Thus in this District Initiative we aim to rejuvenate such spots with the rotaract clubs across 3170. What to do ? 1. Identify public spots that need attention 2. .2. Clean-up/Redevelop/Renovate/Beautify the place. 3. 3. Click the before and after pictures to spot the change. 4. 4. Put up Rotaract Signage at the spot you developed. How to do? 1. Identification of least maintained spots is not a tough task we see them everywhere day-in day-out. Be it footpaths, stations, bus-stops,play grounds/gardens, bridges, underpasses, city circles, narrow lanes, abandoned land, lakes/ponds and what not! The scale at which this project can be done is pretty vast. The canvas size and the art is yours to decide. 2. Take the permissions/help from the local authorities (if needed). 3. Once the spot is chosen, then it's all up to your creative thinking. How artistic you get and on similar lines how smartly you utilize the space. Get your club members on board, brainstorm on ideas, upcycle, plan and budget well and then it's all execution. 4. Get your club members together to develop the area. It will be a great binding and team work session for the club. If possible, invite non-rotaractors, localities residing in and around the spot you choose to be a part of this project. You never know if they like the vibe of your club, you might be looking at your potential members. 5. Once the work is done, inaugurate the place in a grand manner irrespective of how big or small the spot is. Invite your rotarians, local leaders and obviously your club members for the inauguration. Let the people know the good work you do. Your club name should be the new trend running in their minds. 6. PR - The most important thing to end with. Get your work featured on all the possible media platforms be it print, tv, radio, social media! 7. Last but not the least, 'Maintain' - A beautiful portrait is of no significance if it is covered with layers of dust. So whatever spot you develop, keep a check and keep it maintained. What do we intend to achieve? 1. We always crib about how ugly our city is turning into looking at these 'ugly spots' but do nothing about it. We as rotaractors are people of action. Let's take it upon ourselves to convert 51","these 'ugly spots' into 'beauty spots' of the city. Which you can eventually and proudly boast about. 2. Add to the brand value of Rotaract. Good work always gets recognized. We wish to make Rotaract a household name and these beauty spots will keep reminding the name to anyone passing by. 3. Good work also attracts good people. We expect a sizeable growth in club's membership as well. Here you will not have to speak about your work to increase your membership, your work will speak for itself. That's all about the District Initiative - City Beautification. You are free to twist, turn modify the project as per your ideas and necessities as long as the aim of the project is achieved. 52","IKSHANA - EYE CHECK UP CAMP Eyes are the most delicate/important sense organs yet most ignored one too. Life without eyes is hard to imagine thus eyesight is one of the biggest gift one and ever cherish to have. But do we care enough ? Most of the times slight vision difficulties in young age gets ignored to become sever difficulties in future. Hence the project Ikshana. What do we do? 1. Conduct Eye Check Up Camps in schools. 2. Set up certified smelled chart in classroom/schools for frequent monitoring of difficulty in reading. 3. Donate Eye Glasses to the underprivileged students. Collaborate with your local optician if necessary. 4. Organize Eye Donation Pledge Camp. How to do? 1. Spot a school, Take necessary permissions to organize camps and set up charts. 2. Contact local opticians who would like to collaborate in the initiative. 3. Get the opticians branding done on the charts in return to sponsorship basic eye glasses powered lenses to the underprivileged. 4. Organize an eye donation pledge camp. As said above, there cannot be a better gift to anyone other than the eye sight. What do we intend to achieve? Most of the eye sight difficulties can be cured if detected at the early age. If a student needs a powered lens glass and is ignoring to wear one or is not even aware that he needs one, this will lead to the power of lens to increase in future leading to a stage of none improvement. On contrary if eye sight is checked regularly and necessary measures are taken on time at young age itself then there is a chance of have no vision/lens problems in future. Identification of the problem and providing solutions to those who cannot afford the solution is the goal of this project. As a part of this district initiative, let us work towards creating awareness on how important eye sight is, the ways to take proper care of the same, identify the difficulties, try to provide solutions and in the end cherish this beautiful gift of vision. 53","NORMALISING LGBTQ+ The idea of human rights rests on the central premise that all humans are equal. It follows that all humans have dignity and all humans should be treated as equal. Anything that undermines that dignity is a violation, for it violates the principle of equality and paves the way for discrimination. Today, homosexuality and queer identities may be acceptable to more Indian youths than ever before, but within the boundaries of family, home and school, acceptance of their sexuality and freedom to openly express their gender choices still remain a constant struggle for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) people. In India, where social media and corporate initiatives have created increasing awareness of LGBT rights, the scenario looks more upbeat for this community. Even though urban LGBT voices that are heard through several online and real-world platforms form an important part of LGBT activism, these expose only a small part of the diverse challenges faced by the community. We as Rotaractors, as the change makers of the society are up with this initiative to normalize the 3rd Gender to help them to lead a normal Life. We know that LGBTQ community in the society are judged heavily, assaulted, spoken rudely with, looked at because of how they look, how they conduct themselves or just for their preferences and choices. And to bring a change in this social stigmas and taboo practices we're up with this special initiative in Rotary International District 3170. Objective: • Educating people about this sector and starting healthy conversations about Gender rights and equal opportunities for all genders. • Normalizing these communities as the 3rd Gender in the society. • Breaking the stereotypes attached to characteristics of these communities. • Creating a positive space for all Genders and breaking the societal stigma and unethical taboo practices. • Welfare and uplifting their living on some in the other scale for betterment of these communities and the society we dwell in. • Awareness Drives to explain the current scenarios of these communities in the society and also to highlight the existence and importance of these communities. • Awareness by bulletins, short movies, vlogs, blogs, essay competitions, elocution competitions, poster making competitions in schools and colleges. • To add members of these communities in clubs or even charter new Clubs for the same. • Organize talk shows, seminars, sessions where we ourselves or even have personalities from these special communities to deliver the sessions. • Creating job and employment opportunities professionally in Corporate sector, business sector, government sectors (be it of any scale) by the influence of self, Rotaract or Rotary and it's partner organizations. • Mix community gathering as an exhibition to exhibit the special skills and talents of these communities. 54","FINANCIAL LITERACY 1. Stock Market 2. Mutual Funds 3. Digital Marketing 4. Entrepreneurship Objectives 1. Having multiple source of income is empowering 2. Induce the importance of financial independence 3. It could turn into a job you love. 7. Financial Literacy is achievable for everyone 8. Expand your network Several years ago, Financial Literacy was a little bit of a buzzword. From time to time, you would see it mentioned online, but maybe it never seemed like something you needed to do. It is becoming more and more of the norm because it’s a real solution to making your financial goals a reality. Siddharth R Pattanashetti (Dist. Professional Service Director) - +91 7619343936 55","ROTARACT - INTERACT COLLABORATIONS It’s quite established by now that the youth is the strength of Rotary Movement. The energy, the enthusiasm, the innovative ideas that the younger generations cater is just unimaginable. While Rotaract serves all of this, how can we miss out on mentioning our younger buddies 'Interactors' in the same. Every Rotary Club look towards Rotaractors as the potential Rotarians then why not look towards Interactors as our potential future Rotaractors? While the number of Interact Clubs in the district are more than rotary-rotaract clubs combined yet the conversation rate of interactor turning into a rotaractor is pretty low. Such large scale youth force is just going untapped. Thus our initiative to bring Interactors in the main fold by carrying out as many collaborations as possible. What to do? 1. Co-Sponsor Interact Club. 2. Carry out projects/events in collaboration with Interact Clubs. How to do? • Rotaract can now be a co-sponsor in Chartering New Interact Club. Start an Interact club (community based/institute based) and as a parent club, take up the whole and sole responsibility of keeping the club active. Right from training them, guiding, carrying out projects to making them aware of how vast the rotary world is and the opportunities it provides. • If chartering a club seems a big deal, then check out for the interact clubs that have been sponsored by your parent rotary club and carry out projects in collaboration with them. Invite them to your events/projects and vice-versa. What do we intend to achieve? 1. The experience of being a parent club is thoroughly amazing. All the experience and knowledge you have acquired, translating it to younger audience and carrying forward your club's legacy and practices. 2. Making Interactors aware of the options once they step out of the school/Interact Clubs. 3. Your collaborations will already establish a good bond with rotaractors of your club which will make them want to join Rotaract and as a rotaract club you get well trained (trained under you) and experienced rotaractors batch in the club resulting in massive up rise in the club's quality membership. 56","4. Having Interact Club by your side in your projects/events works as additional workforce to Rotaract Club and don't be surprised to see Interact being more active and energetic than Rotaract after a point. IMPORTANT TO NOTE All that being said, one needs to remember that Interactors are after all minors (below the age of 18) Our rules do not apply with them. They will have time restrictions, work restrictions, travel restrictions and every activity is to be done under the consent of the parents/guardian/school (if institute based). Thus chartering an Interact Club, being a parent club and ensuring it sustains for years to come is a work of responsibility. We advice this only to the club's that are stable themselves and posses the potential to be a parent club. Interesting facts Did you know that Interact Club of Venugram - Belgaum is the only rotaract co-sponsored Interact Club in entire RI District 3170. Unity Building Chicago on 23rd February 1905. It involves actions that are must for a Rotarian within the club for successful functioning. It provides the foundation for a sound Rotary Club. It is a fundamental building block of Rotary Club Service is the most important part of the club mechanism, because without a vitally functioning club, little else can be performed via the other three Avenues of Service. A significant distinction between Club Service and other Avenues is that club Service is directed toward the Internal functioning of the club – to maintain its health and vigor – while the other Avenues are directed outward toward the local community and the larger world in which we live. Club service is where members are educated about Rotary, where fellowship is encouraged and where committees handle club administration, Club Service is nothing but the contribution of every member to the club financially and otherwise for the successful administration and functioning of the club by paying the dues, by attending meetings, participating In fellowship, bringing in new members, taking part in club programmes, serving in committees and representing the club outside. It incorporates a wide range of community concerns and needs. The first step in Community service is to recognize the needs of the community and the expertise and capability of the Rotarians. The needs of the community should be assessed by proper survey and efforts taken to meet their needs. The needs of one community may not be the same as others. Instead of repeating a service activity that other organizations can do, Rotary can join hands with them to serve the community we should. Serve with love and humanity, develop a positive attitude towards service, have man power along with money power, and not take it as a load but instead enjoy it. Community service is our best public relation tool. Services rendered to the community should be for the empowerment of the community and of practical improvement in the life of the people in the Community. From the very first community service project in 1907. When founder Paul Harris led a campaign to have a public restroom installed at the city hall in Chicago, Rotarians have been making substantial and lasting contributions to the communities where they live.
