Story Time Composed by Huda Ilyas THE SAME PORRIDGE! She saw the bowl of porridge and smiled. At the very next moment the smile disappeared. She took a deep breath. It was 7 minutes after Fajr azaan when Misha was cleaning the kitchen with her mother after suhoor. For a while she wanted to taste the sweet porridge but then she realized that the time had passed. She offered the prayer and then went into a deep sleep. She Woke up at 11 then went to play with her younger sister. After some time, her mother brought some breakfast for her younger sister. It was the same porridge! She felt 5

really bad because she couldn't eat it. At noon, the hot weather changed into cold winds and eventually it started raining. This was the best part. Every time when it rained, she tried to drink the rain water. But oops! This time it was tough for her. Without trying to drink the water she enjoyed the rain. Finally, when it was evening, she was glad. She made delicious food items and a complete meal for iftar with her mother. There was no one around. She was putting the food on the table. Again, she felt hungry. This was the last test of patience now. At first, she was about to taste it when a thought approached her and she decided to wait. Her faith became even more stronger and then she never felt hungry during her fast. No doubt, she was tested for patience during her fast. 6

Story Written by Aaliyan Asad FLORA AND FAUNA One sunny morning, a group of hungry faunas came to the garden and ate all the floras present there. As the gardener came to visit the place, he was shocked to see the miserable condition of his beloved garden. He started crying and shouting over his bad luck. The most depressing thing for him was that his favorite 9

flora, the red rose, was also targeted by the predators. He hid himself sobbing between the leftover branches and stems of the beautiful faunas. He wished he could have arranged fences to stop the dangerous predators, the faunas, from entering his garden. He soon realized the fact that it is useless to cry over what has happened, and it’s better to plan something to overcome the loss. The next morning, he bought new seeds from the wholesale market with the left-over amount from his pension. He also succeeded in getting empty crates which he placed to make the high boundaries of the garden to prevent any faunas from attacking. The kind gardener believed that faunas are also an important part of the ecosystem and it’s his responsibility to take care of them as well. He 10

knew the attacking faunas were the wild Cats and Dogs from the neighborhood. Thus, he got some milk and bones and placed them outside the garden’s fences to feed them. This way, the predators and the preys both were safe. A few days later, the garden again flourished with the colorful floras. The faunas and the gardener soon became good friends and now acted as guards to the garden. 11

Reflection Drafted by Soubia Ahmed Run For Knowledge Not For Grades In this complex era where we hear that there are no assessments and the students were promoted, one thing appeared obvious that this situation is same with all the systems of education, whether it’s Cambridge or Matric system. You can find many articles written on the difference between the two systems, but in my opinion whatever the system you follow some points should be considered, 12

which are highlighted here. Prepare your child to express his own ideas and feelings. Studies should be very comprehensive. A child from the beginning is capable of writing. Focus on reading too. This increases the vocabulary of students a lot. This is the case with not only languages but other subjects also. There must be reasoning questions and conceptional evaluation. Though O or A level students have to compete with the matric and intermediate students at the University level but it is not the matter, the clear concept and research habits will definitely very helpful. 13

Don’t obtain education to get jobs, always seek knowledge and build your personality. Even when companies hire employee your soft skills intelligence and devotion to work matters. Institutions and teachers should also give comprehensive knowledge besides telling the tricks to solve the paper and getting grades. Students who go through good books come up with outstanding performance. We have many examples of people who have studied under the lantern and are known as the great achievers, so it’s the game of spirit not materials. Knowledge is power through which a person can easily 14

handle the things and have a control over the complications in his life. While acquiring education gain knowledge for everyday use, acquire facts and information and develop skills. Leo buscaglia said,” Change is the end result of all the true learning”. So don’t just fill a pail, light a fire. 15

Event Authored by Summer Camp Cottage Summer Camp Cottage Summer camp cottage was organized by a resident of Darussalam Society. It was mainly arranged for children as you know the summer vacations have approached and boredom was patting every child. So, the summer camp was held to vanish boredom and enter into a world of fun. Many children enrolled in it and their summer had been spent creatively. This summer camp was set up for one month supporting 3 days a week. The wonderful camp supported many activities such as pot painting, in which children did marvelous work. The camp made children enter into the world of tastes. They were offered many yummy, healthy and delicious foods. They were taught to cook two types of salads. Furthermore, they made sunflower sandwiches. They looked amazing and the taste was delicious. 18

It was a wonderful time. More activities such as glass painting, calligraphy, formic work, gift wrapping, fabric painting and many more were held. Everyone performed their best and no doubt they were all wonderful. Sadly, it has now ended but still one day courses for all these and many more activities are available for the whole year. . 19

Competition Winner’s Entry Drafted by Ariba Iqbal Are we sincere with our studies? Studies; the voice of wisdom, the journey to sky, the feathers to fly and the world beyond imagination many great ideas alarm the mind as this word come across my senses. To keep in steps with the time in this advancement epoch, study is the best option to flaunt in order to climb upon the success, but being a swot in acquiring knowledge is the proper definition to studies otherwise it’s of no use. It’s indeed a psychology fact that the work done with resentment cannot be concluded in betterment. Every single day waking up earlier, making way to school, hanging the overloaded studies stuff, all is in vain if one has not had any opinion with the connection to loyalty in that practical, this all can only end up in the knacker’s yard. Every work seeks for sincerity to let you up. And to whom you are cheating upon by being disloyal towards your studies? Of course, you are ruining yourself, you are letting 20

towards darkness by your own existence, your future is threatened by your own self. Whenever I Mutter the bossy word of study a well-defined sorrow can be seen on those innocent faces, it seems that a monster overtook their soul out of them, they spell boundless instead of the state of astoundness. This is not just enough even some of them have their senses caught in cage they think study is a bitter pill to swallow which can let their mood busted. Beside this as per the tradition of earning many of the senseless people think that study will be the source of earning and having top- notch jobs in the future and even plenty of them made their concept totally on this wrong foundation. Actually, the thing is that many of us are unaware of the real mean and significance of knowledge and some wrong misconceptions are glued in our mind which is not setting off, which have turned into worse state of absurdness. Albert Einstein says, “Knowledge is not the learning of facts, it’s the training of mind to think”. 21

Our society needs to be highly concerned over their drudging mindsets; they need to be stroll over the right concept to introduce the new generation to wise and fair thoughts about knowledge. In contrast only the nation can be steadfast by taking strong grip over knowledge and by digging in it. Time witnesses that the community that holds literate youths always results in the progression of the country. It’s the most obligatory duty on our shoulders to consign the right mean of knowledge which contain passion, interest and sincerity towards the upcoming generation. Knowledge is not just being well educated, it’s the thing that alone can tackle all the phases of a life in an intellectual way it’s the spirit and determination to achieve your dreams, it’s the sword against cruelty, it’s the liberty from all unwanted limitation and it’s the internal strength contrary to negativity. Nelson Mandela quoted: “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the World” So how come 22

this power can be considered useless and unacquainted. 23
