GO FIGHT WIN! 10

Play Hard, Play Smart, Play Together A REFLECTION ON THE BASKETBALL DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP BY MARY DRODDY I have had the pleasure of watching both our girls & boys basketball teams display a true commitment to a goal. As always the goal of everything we do at PCA is for our students to thrive in an atmosphere where they are loved so that they learn to pursue excellence; develop grit and character; and grow to love what is good, true, and beautiful...or as Coach puts it, “Play hard, play smart, play together.” So how can something so hard fought and so sweaty also be considered good, true, or beautiful? I tear up a little thinking about the details of what we all witnessed during the playoff games. We saw the players encouraging each other to persevere and to push through any and every obstacle. Our players also displayed good sportsmanship by helping members of the other team up when they fell down. We watched the older high school students drive 45 minutes to the JV game just to support the younger players. Instead of obsessing about the occasionally refutable referee call, our pom-pom bearing parents unified to rally the team with a multitude of PCA cheers. I even heard some of our fans encouraging the referees. It would be naive of me to think that this display of courage is something that happened overnight for our teams. There is much more to the success of these games than just what we have seen this season. These victories are also about the sacrifices made by all the administrators, parents, teachers, and previous coaches that have invested in and discipled our kids over the last few years. This experience has given our school community a taste of what patient investment in the long game of life-shaping and discipleship looks like. May God be glorified in all that we do!!
