Student Profile“My PhD research is diverse andof a multidisciplinary nature.”My research involves fieldwork on the Irish research Annette Wilsonvessel, the Celtic Explorer, which is aunique andthoroughly enjoyable experience. I have participated in PhD (Earth & Ocean Sciences)four research cruises for my PhD to date and they haveall been inspiring experiences. The Earth and Ocean Sciences discipline has an excellentlearning environment, with approachable, experienced andhelpful staff and students.Within the Ryan Institute, where I am based, there is an excellent intellectual community, that includes regular seminar sessions. These are a great way for students to present their research and build their confidence forultimately presenting at conferences. For research in marine science studies, NUI Galway is agreat university. It is on the doorstep of Ireland’s largest resource—220 million acres of ocean. There are also plentyof opportunities to work with the state research facility based in Galway, the Marine Institute.”Funding & SupportThere are a wide range of funding and scholarships available for Science Postgraduate Students. Some are listed below:l College of Science Scholarships www.nuigalway.ie/science/scholarshipsandprizes.htmll Hardiman Scholarships www.nuigalway.ie/hardiman-scholarships/l IRC www.research.ie/funding/postgraduate-fundingl A Taught Masters Scholarship scheme is available for students commencing studies in September. www.nuigalway.ie/postgrad/scholarships/College of Science | T: +353 91 492 182 | F:+353 91 494 578E: [email protected] | www.nuigalway.ie/science
