Charity News Easter Egg Run At the end of February, myself and Jenny Cross of Cross Productions, launched our annual Charity Easter Egg Run, asking local businesses to support and donate towards the cost of eggs for those children who may not be getting one this Easter, for one reason or another. We then distribute them to as many local charities as we can, to spread a bit of happiness to the kids. We were absolutely blown away by the support that we received and, in the end, we delivered over 1000 eggs to our friends at Focus, Menphys, Wesley Hall Community Centre, Generation Youth, Oadby Food Bank, Enderby Food Bank, Enstruct, YMCA, Zynthia Trust, Soft Touch Arts and Help the Homeless, for them to distribute amongst the kids that they work with. A huge thank you to everyone that contributed either with cash, eggs, and their time buying and delivering the eggs. Charity News Kazzoo support Leicestershire Women’s Centre The Shama Women’s Centre were looking for local businesses to become corporate business ambassadors of Shama Women’s Centre by pledging £1,000.00 in 2020. We were proud to be able to be a part of this initiative at the end of last year. Shama Women’s Centre is a unique centre of support to women in Leicester and Leicestershire. We have been delivering a wide range of holistic services for the past 35 years and are one of a very few dedicated spaces left around the country where women from all walks of life can safely express themselves and access support in a culturally conducive environment. We have continued the vital support around mental health, education and employment, childrens’ services and domestic violence referrals throughout the lockdown thanks to our fantastic management and staff teams, as well as our wonderfully dedicated volunteers. Our new mental health programme for people who are struggling with work (at home or out and about) and we look forward to sharing these essential resources with you soon. Kazzoo become an Elite Champions Member We have recently joined Koi Sports as an Elite Champions Member, meaning that we can give something back to the sporting community through networking. Our club of choice this year was Fleckney Athletic, whom I used to play for in my youth. Koi Sports CIC are a Social Enterprise based in Leicester. We reinvest our Elite Champion’s membership fees into their chosen Grassroots Sports Club, Charity or Initiative, as a way of delivering positive social change for local Communities, and of marketing their CSR donations as a way of enhancing their Business’s already good reputation. Charity News Darren Bradbury’s Menphys Challenge During a quiet period shortly before Christmas, my good friend Darren Bradbury decided to put himself to good use and help local charity Menphys by delivering some Christmas presents for children with disabilities. The charity has helped thousands of families and their children over the years with the fantastic work it does and celebrated it’s 50th birthday in 2020, but with celebrations being fairly muted due to the current pandemic, Darren decided he wanted to do something and raise some money to show his appreciation for the amazing work they do. After a lot of deliberation, this came in the form of a two-part challenge that started on 18th January 2021 and will run until July 2nd 2021. In this time Darren will be either running, cycling or rowing at least 3 miles every day, 7 days a week. The challenge will then culminate in a wolf run on 3 July 2021 (this is a 10K run with manmade and natural obstacles that include lake swims and mud pits etc). So far Darren has raised over £6,000.00 for this amazing charity. With such a long way to go to the end of this mammoth 167-day challenge, Darren wants to raise as much money as he possibly can and still needs all the support he can get, so if you would like to donate please see his Just Giving Page below. Business News Kazzoo and DMU Graduate Champions Programme From 8th February to 19th March, we had the pleasure of hosting Karn Singh as an Intern through the DMU Graduate Champions Programme. Karn has been giving our social media a review and overhaul and has been busy creating and scheduling posts over the two platforms that we have not made much use of in the past, Instagram and Facebook. As well as this he has been helping us gain more connections and followers, something we all need in business. Due to the current restrictions, it has all had to be done virtually but Karn has been ready and willing to take on board anything that we have asked him to do and kept us updated on a daily basis. It has been a pleasure to have Karn join the Kazzoo team and myself and Jo have enjoyed being able to show him a little of the networking side to business too, with him attending an event with each of us. This was something he really enjoyed and had no knowledge of prior to his time with us. A few weeks ago we said goodbye and ‘Thank You’ to Karn as he will be continuing his search for a position to further his career in the business world. “In the last 6 weeks, I have really learnt the importance of social media for business. I have researched and understood what type of posts businesses require and need. Also, I have gained first-hand experience in what it’s like to research and create posts for a social media platform for a business that I had no knowledge of beforehand.
