Success Stories

René MartínezRené Martínez is a 13 month old baby, with gorgeous eyes and an ear-to-ear smile. He lives inthe community of La Colonia, in the municipality of Jayaque, La Libertad. He lives with his two siblings, Reina and Ulises, his mother Reina and his dad. Reina had other6 children before, but they are grown up and live on thier own now. When Reina was pregnant withRené, she had a lot of problems: she was underweight, had problems with high blood pressure and shehad to walk about two hours to go to prenatal checkups every week, because she lived in a remotezone in a rural area, with no public transportation to take her to the nearest clinic. The family had a lot of needs; Reina’s husband worked as day laborer in a coffee plantation and hiswage was only $120 per month. With that little amount of money they had to buy food, like corn, milk, sugar and salt, but still, it was not enough to keep the whole family properly fed.

Reina joined the Libras de Amor Program in her community after giving birth to her babyboy Rene. There, she was advised to only breastfeed her baby during his first few months. When the baby was 6 months old, he began to eat MannaPack Potato-W. Reina found outthat this food was ideal for her baby’s nutrition, because she noticed how healthy helooked and how he was gaining weight. Without MannaPack W, she would've only beenable to feed her baby corn porridge or rice water.MannaPack Potato-W is now part of their everyday nutrition, and is helping not only baby René to growhealthy and strong, but also his two siblings, little Reina and Ulises. With that food her kids havegained weight, rarely get sick and are really active. Baby René loves to play with his toys and is nowlearning to walk; he loves to stand up and try to play soccer.Reina is proud to see her baby growing happy and healthy, she said, “Now he likes to play, he alsowants to eat by himself; when he sees me with the plate of MannaPack Potato-W, he wants to take thespoon to his mouth... he eats it all”. Reina thinks that without the support from Libras de Amor, Renéwould not be the healthy, lively baby that he is now. She feels very grateful to have MannaPack Potato-W to feed him, and has big dreams for his future. “I want to keep giving him an adequate nutrition for hecan perfectly grow and achieve a good life”, said Reina. Thanks to Feed My Starving Children, mothers and their children, like Reina and René, can havenutricious food in their plate every day. We are truly helping these good people have a good, healthylife.

Twins: Noé and Marta Renderos Twins Noé and Marta Renderos are two playful kids that live in the rural community of La Colonia, municipality of Jayaque, in La Libertad. Since they were born, they have been filling their family's with happiness and fun. The twins live in a small and humble house on a hill, with their parents and older brother, Melkin. Marta, their mother, says that the twins were an unexpected surprise in her life. She was 17 years old, and her husband already had another son, 2 years old. Because of their lack of economic resources, she could never get an ultrasound during her pregnancy. At the moment of their birth, because the labor was not progressing at the rate that it was supposed to be, the doctors decided to perform a cesarean section. But the huge surprise came when the doctors found a second baby! Nobody expected two babies… When she was out of the hospital, Marta received the orientation from the Libras de Amor Program on how to effectively feed her family and the importance of providing exclusive breastfeeding during the first months of life for the baby twins. She was a bit concerned about how she would provide adequate food for the twins after they turned 6 months old, because their family did not have enough resources to sustain their needs.

Marta’s husband works as a laborer in a coffee plantation. His wage is $55 dollars for twoweeks of work, with which he has to buy food for the whole family. With the birth of the twins, the expenses increased and doubled. Their difficulties are many, they do not have electricity orpotable water, for which they need to go to the nearest river to get it.Thanks to the Libras de Amor program, which donated packs of MannaPack Potato-W, thefamily received food to feed the three kids. Ever since the twins were 7 months old, they eatall the delicious and healthy recipes that mom prepares with MannaPack Potato-W. She alsoincorporates different leaves and plants high in iron and vitamins, like chipilin and blackberry, tothe Potato-W meal. Every day she sits and eats with them and makes sure that they eat all thatshe puts on their plate. Both Noé and little Marta love to eat the potato puree and ask for more.Noé and little Marta's development has been incredible. They are now 2 years old and livefilled with energy to run, spend time with their friends and play with their pet, a kitty namedPancho.Their mother believes that their healthy development is thanks to the nutritional values thatMannaPack gives the twins. “It has helped them because they were underweight; the Libras programgave me MannaPack Potato-W and I feed the kids with potato puree. Now they never get sick and theyalways have something to eat”, said Marta. The twins have grown healthy and receiving the food is a relief for the family, “to me and mychildren, it’s been good because they are gaining weight. Sometimes we can't buy food because themoney is not enough, that is why this support is great for me, it's great for the children. Therehave been difficult times when we have nothing to give them, but now we have this food”, saidMarta, grateful and filled with happiness.Thank you, Feed My Starving Children, with you support we are helping young motherslike Marta to feed their kids with healthy food and help them grow strong and happy.
