Case Study: PR Division/Jakel Trading Sdn. Bhd. 4 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this assignment is to introduce our group about public relationdepartment in any organization. So, we had decided to go to Jakel to do our research onpublic relation there. In this assignment, we had included the background of the company, theorganization chart, the mission and vision of the company, job responsibilities of the personin charge and their challenge and how they overcome. We also included the photos abouttheir product in this assignment and also our photos as the evidence. In this assignment, we get to know about the establishment of their company from thebeginning and we know how struggle they are to start from the beginning until their companyhave been successful now. We also get to know the challenge and how they overcomebecause every problem has their own solution. So that, we know how they face everysituation every day without complaint. This assignment will elaborate and discuss the specific issues about public relation ormarketing department. From our research at this company, we also get to know therequirement that they had stated to be one of their worker in marketing department. So that,we will get know what our target is after this if we want to be one of the worker that relatedto the public relation department. Case Study: PR Division/Jakel Trading Sdn. Bhd. 5 BACKGROUND OF COMPANY Jakel is beginning in 1983 when the late Mohamed Jakel Bin Ahmad started his smallretail business in Muar, Johor. The trademark of this company is JAKEL TRADING to winover customers. Started with a minimum capital investment of RM 30 000, Mohamed Jakellater has expended the business to Segamat, where the empire started to break people eyesthat Jakel is a dominant player in its category. In 1992, to the additional capital investment of RM 500,000, JAKEL TRADINGexpands its operations by venturing into semi-wholesaler as well as supplying textiles to thegovernment agencies and private sectors. JAKEL TRADING continues to be a highlydeveloped and respected textile company between 1992 and 1997. In the end of 1997 until 1998, Malaysia has been hit by the economic downturn. Atthat point, it was certainly difficult for JAKEL TRADING to obtain supplies from KualaLumpur and Singapore. Thus, the cloth stock diminishing. However, the company was ableto handle the crisis successfully. Datuk Hj. Faroz Mohamed Bin Mohamed Jakel, the eldestson of Mohamed Jakel who is now a Managing Director of Jakel Group of Companies, triedto get manufactures during the crisis. Due to lack of stocks in the market, JAKEL TRADING has taken a brave step bywent directly to the manufactures as well as importing the stocks straight from the overseasand sell it right to the wholesalers in Malaysia. In the beginning, the Korean exporters werereluctant to work with JAKEL TRADING as they are still bound to the Singapore exporters.Moreover, most of the importers could not extend their businesses as bank had dismissedtheir facilities. His failure at the first attempt was not an obstacle for him to keep on trying. The JAKEL TRADING‟s goal is “One Branch, One State”, Jakel has opened 20branches throughout Malaysia as it intends to conquer the textile industry from north to southMalaysia. There are have a six stunning storey and seven lots. Jakel invest about RM30million for opening a Kuala Lumpur branch. Jakel had invested RM 50 million for opening Wisma Jakel at Shah Alam. It waslaunched by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on September 29, 2010after five months of its opening. Since the Jakel business is expanded, they got many awarded, for example JakelTrading was awarded The Best Textile Company of the year by the UDC. Business Award2011 by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed. In 2013, thiscompany was awarded as BEST ASEAN Textile Company 2013 by the Asean Retail andFranchise Federation at the Outstanding Business Award 2013 presented by Datuk SeriIsmail Sabri, the Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry. With the slogan of “ingat kain, ingat Jakel”, JAKEL offers all kinds of clothingincluding the traditional dress custom as well as wedding dress from 5,000 high qualityfabrics which are chiffon, satin , lace , lycra, Korean and Italian silk which are flown in fromthe country. There are also lace accessories, home furnishing and curtains. JAKEL alwaysproduce the best quality of latest trends that inspired from European designs. Bhd. 7DIVISION OF MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATION The division of marketing and public relation manages communication, promotions,marketing about their product. They handle and give idea about the promotion to interesttheir customers. They also coordinate the media relation, and publication. In addition, theyassist related events and branding activities. The division of marketing and public relation communicates the goals, objectives andpriorities of this company to its various public through dissemination of information, mediarelations, publications, imaging and audio services. Through the use of effectivecommunication strategies and techniques, the strategic marketing team actively support thestrategic goals of the company by helping to create a positive image of this company. Theyhelp tell the public about the product of this company through publications, digital design,video, multimedia, social media and photography to make public interest to buy thiscompany‟s product. Case Study: PR Division/Jakel Trading Sdn. Bhd. 12JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Floor Manager has their job responsibilities to make sure the customers very satisfiedwith their services. As we know, JAKEL is the company that provided many types of textilesthat come from many countries such as Korea, Italy, and others country that export qualitytextiles. So, to make them believed that JAKEL provided very quality textiles, as a FloorManager he will make sure their staff do their job such as follow the customer anywhere theygo, show them the textiles that they want, if they like don‟t want to buy, the staff have tomake sure they buy something at least one types of textiles or cloth. As a Floor Manager, his job also has to sell the textiles; cloths not only the staff dothat job. At JAKEL everyone have to sell at least one until ten products a day. This is howJAKEL work, everyone has to promote, sell JAKEL product without any excuse. Eventhough the Top Manager, their job responsibilities still same like the staff, except for theOffice workers. JAKEL slogan was “INGAT KAIN INGAT JAKEL”, this slogan means a lot to FloorManager as he have to make sure people will come again to JAKEL after they came once,Floor Manager have be very talkative without shying to make customer feel they have tocome again when they want to buy a textiles, cloth or other product. This is the FloorManager job responsibilities to make people feel like no other textiles stores can fight withJAKEL textiles that very quality and cheap. From this slogan, we know JAKEL marketing was very good where they can give usthe quality textiles with the cheap price. As a Floor Manager to make the sell high every day,he have a strategy how he want to attract people to come and grab the product withoutthinking the price, they have a magic to manipulate people thinking from don‟t want to buy tobuy and buy. This is the Floor Manager strength. Job responsibilities for Floor Manager also is hearing the customers complaints, ifthey do not satisfied with the staff service, Floor Manager will handle it because based ontheir motto “Customers is Always Right”. He will make sure that the customers buying theirproduct after they had slow talk. Sometimes the customers behaviour can make the staffbecome angry and else, but as a worker they must follow the customers desires becausecustomer is always right. Bhd. 13CHALLENGE1) Textiles and Apparel Industry As an overview of the background of the textiles and textile products industry inMalaysia comprises four sub-sectors, namely primary textiles which cover activities such aspolymerisation, spinning, weaving, knitting and wet processing; made-up garments; made-uptextiles; and textile accessories. The growth of Malaysia's textiles and apparel industryaccelerated in the early 1970s when the country embarked on export-orientedindustrialisation. Due to the intensified global competition, Malaysia textile manufacturers are movingup the value chain by diversifying into the production of higher value-added textiles,implementing automation and computerised manufacturing, processes, seeking businesscollaboration with foreign companies to acquire new technologies and undertaking researchand development activities to develop new processes, new applications and value-addedproducts. The industry currently employs more than 68,000 workers. In 2015, the textiles and textile products industry was the ten largest export earnerwith RM13.2 billion, contributing approximately 1.7 per cent to Malaysia‟s total exports ofmanufactured goods. The USA, Japan, People‟s Republic of China, Singapore and Turkeywere Malaysia‟s top five export destinations. The USA remained the leading export marketfor Malaysian textiles products taking to 18.3 per cent of the industry‟s total exports. New growth areas in textiles industry have been targeted for promotion under theThird Industrial Master Plan (IMP3). The growth areas for the industry include: industrial andhome textiles; functional fabrics; high-end fabrics and garments; ethnic fabrics; and keysupport facilities and services such as design houses and fashion centres, specialized dyeingand finishing facilities, etc. Public Relations in Information Work (IML553)

Bhd. 15 In addition, the challenge that Jakel have to face is when they got other competitor inthe field of textile such as Euro Moda, Gulatis, Nagoya, Kamdar, Nilai 3 store, Nilai 1 store.They are in the same field of textile, and compete together. Nowadays, Jakel are well established. They grow up so fast in term of sales becausethey know how to market their product. Plus, Jakel also make sales so that it will attractcustomer to buy their things. Furthermore, Jakel are good in fulfil customer satisfaction. Theyknow how to entertain customer very well. If you enter in Jakel store, for sure their workersare welcoming you; they will ask what you want. On top of that, their goal also customermust buy at least one or more suit. Almost of Malaysian know what is Jakel all about andwhat they provide. Some more, many artists also are shopping at Jakel, for example they areshopping for their wedding attire. It is always a challenge to retain those good employees. You alsowant to hire those with the best attributes, people who have the potential to become goodemployees in the future, even to become the company talents.12 top qualities an employee has to possess:The traits of a good employee. What makes a good employee of Jakel?1. Communicator: Employers love to hire employees who have the ability to communicate well and express themselves in a clear manner, whether in writing or speaking. Inaccurate/inappropriate communication between employees can cause many problems to the company.2. Self-Motivated: A good employee never hesitates of taking responsibility or a more yresponsible position. She/he also ready to work beyond the call of duty in order to meet goals or to solve problems, even if the job in discussion is not one of the regular works she is usually assigned. Jakel also have their own shift.3. Hard worker: There is no substitute to hard work. Although everyone seems to say that they work hard not many keep on working after being at the job for a while. So, one has to keep reminding oneself about the importance and significance of working hard as an employee.4. Adaptable/decisive and effective learner: Employees who know how to adjust themselves to new environment, willing to learn new things (quick learners) and perform their best in changes are likely to be the best performers in any organization.5. Team Player: Many companies consist of teams. Any company requires an effective team effort. Helping others: Everyone appreciates a helping hand every now and then. Do not hesitate in helping out others. This make the person establish friendly relations with the co-workers and keeps the office running smoothly which in turn is appreciated by the employers.7. Honesty: A good employee is honest about his/her work and qualifications. Self-criticism and willing to receive feedback (bad as good) is essential to become a good learner.8. Ethical: Work rules are made to be followed. There is decorum of every place that ought to be kept. A good employee follows the policies of the company and inspires others to do so too.9. Give credit where it is due: One of the most prevalent practices doing the rounds in offices today is stealing the credit of a job well done. A good employee will not only truthfully let the right co-worker have her credit but also share her own accolades with his team.
