INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM MCGILL UNIVERSITY WILLIAM AND MARY BROWN BUILDING * Montreal, QC ARCHITEM designed this new building for McGill that consolidates its student services (healthcare, social services and administrative offices, daycare etc). Its location at the geographical centre of the campus provides a physical link between the upper and lower Campus offering a sheltered pedestrian route with entrances on McTavish, Dr. Penfield and Peel for students and the local population while framing views of the city and campus.

INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM SELWYN HOUSE SCHOOL * Westmount, QC As winner of a competition of ideas, ARCHITEM executed a multi-phased project that included the design of a new building to complement the architectural ensemble of the school and create a centre for its urban campus. All the phases were coordinated to allow the normal functioning of the school on its premises. construction cost: $15,4 M project area: 3 500 sq. m. completion: 2006 * in consortium

Phase 1 - $ 9 M - 2003 New Construction: The new 3,500 square meters addition incorporates learning and computer centres, an exhibition/meeting space and an underground gymnasium. Phase 2 - $ 4 M - 2004 Renovation and reorganization of the existing Lucas Building to house the elementary and middle school facilities. Phase 3 - $ 1.2 M - 2005 Renovation of the senior school science laboratories to provide a state-of-the-art learning environment. Phase 4 - $ 1.2 M - 2006 Creation of a performance and dining hall within the Lucas building with renovated kitchen and serving facilities.

INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM BISHOP’S COLLEGE SCHOOL HARTLAND MOLSON PAVILION * construction cost : $ 6.5M Lennoxville, QC project area : 4500 sq.m. completion : 2004 ARCHITEM’sdesignandconstructionofthe * in consortium New Hartland Molson Pavilion created a focal point on the campus quadrangle. The pavilion consolidates all the community activities; student centre, theatre, music / drama facilities and learning centre. The mandate also included the renovation of the Patison Building, to provide state-of- the art science laboratories connected to the new Pavilion. To complete the ensemble around the quad, this new complex connects to the existing Arts Building via a bridge with an enclosed pedestrian circulation on the upper level.



INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM BISHOP’S COLLEGE SCHOOL MITCHELL HOUSE Lennoxville, QC New 3-storey dormitory building for 36 students incorporating two house parent houses, resident scholar apartments and a multipurpose teaching space. Set in a collegial campus, sited to open to the natural terrain, forest, river and campus, the design maximizes views to the surrounding nature from the social spaces and bedrooms. Materials are selected to complement the campus palette of brick, pre-cast concrete and stone. project budget : $6M project area: 2200 sq.m. scheduled completion : Fall 2019

INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM CONGREGATION SHAAR HASHOMAYIM & AKIVA SCHOOL Montreal, QC This phased project for this Jewish institution included transformational work for Akiva School. ARCHITEM designed an underground gym as well as renovating the school to accommodate double the elementary school population. Phase 1 – $2.5 M - 2004 Renovation of Metcalfe Social Hall, Lobby and adjacent amenities. Phase 2 – $2.7 M - 2004 Renovation and complete re-organization of Elementary School and Preschool Phase 3 – $3.2 M - 2005 Construction of a new underground gymnasium and exit stair volume for existing Sanctuary space. Phase 4 – $1.75 M - 2006 Renovation of Kensington Social Hall, administrative spaces and construction of a new floor area for Rabbinical services. Phase 5 – $600, 000 - 2008 Renovation of Akiva School Library

INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM MISS EDGAR’S & MISS CRAMP’S SCHOOL Westmount, QC ARCHITEM prepared a master plan and budget study for the school’s expansion within the municipality’s restrictive by- laws. It included a new athletic facility and classrooms built into the school’s hilly terrain. From this study, the school executed a number of smaller projects. The projects included window replacement, the renovation & interior design of classrooms and the transformation of the school’s gym into a multi-purpose space including a retractable stage, stage lighting and acoustic paneling. project cost : $ 2 M completion : 2007



INSTITUTIONAL Unités de réadaptation Urgence sociale ARCHITEM Services cliniques Services sportifs et de loisir CENTRE JEUNESSE LAURENTIDES Services pédagogiques Laurentians, QC Services administratifs Services alimentaires In 2017, at the invitation of Quebec’s Services de soutien Ministère de la Santé, and the Société Espaces extérieurs Québécoise des infrastructures, Circulation verticale ARCHITEM was one of 3 firms selected Circulation to develop a design concept for a 90-student facility including dormitories, classrooms, gym, library health facilities etc. This was to serve as a prototype to develop new centres dedicated for young people in difficulty in the province.



INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM THE UNITARIAN CHURCH OF MONTREAL Montreal, QC ARCHITEM designed and executed a new church for a congregation of 300 people following a fire that destroyed the original building. The building is organized around a private garden with the distinctive sanctuary volume located at the front, establishing a place of prominence on the street. The church building contains a large public hall, administrative offices and teaching rooms. The sanctuary, a multi-purpose space with special acoustic treatment also serves as a concert hall.

INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM OLD BREWERY MISSION (OBM) Montreal, QC The objective of the renovation was to create an environment which imparted a sense of dignity to the institution’s homeless population and speaks to the core values of the institution. Through re-planning the spaces, maximizing the exposure to natural light and the use of warm materials, we were able to provide a relaxed environment for the OBM’s clients in the Cafeteria and Café as well as improving the efficiency in the Kitchen. project cost : $2M completion : 2017



INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM MONTREAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS (MMFA) Montreal, QC ARCHITEM’s involvement in exhibition design at the MMFA dates from 2007. Working closely with the MMFA’s director, Nathalie Bondil and head of exhibition production, Sandra Gagné, for permanent, temporary and travelling exhibitions, the design approach is inspired by the period of the exhibited art to help tell the story of its place in history. INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM VISUAL ARTS CENTRE Westmount, QC With a minimum intervention, ARCHITEM gave the Centre a more prominent presence on Victoria Avenue. The project included modifications to the main entrance to provide accessibility, modifications to the building’s façade including the introduction of new signage and lighting to provide a unified appearance, the introduction of new, easily operable windows to fit into the existing openings and the transformation of the garage into studio space. The project was executed in two phases. completion : 2005 - 2010

HILLEL HOUSE Montreal, QC This turn-of-century mansion in downtown Montreal functions as a student centre and residence. The mandate included an addition to include a secure main entrance and the introduction of an exit stair, renovation and upgrades to the commercial kitchen, residential rooms on the top floor, meeting and administrative spaces and restoration work for the museum-quality stained glass windows and all of the exterior brickwork. Project Cost: 1.3M Completed: 2005

INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM SUMMIT SCHOOL Ville Saint-Laurent, QC Design proposal in 2015 for an addition to this school for special needs students. The expansion includes a sports facility, cafeteria and additional classrooms, designed to create a campus-like environment for students that is warm, secure and sustainable.



INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM AMPITHÉÂTRE DE TROIS-RIVIÈRES -COMPETITION FINALIST AVENUE DES DRAVEURS (PRÉVUE) 1 Ville Trois-Rivières, QC 3 4 ARCHITEM was a finalist in this design 2 56 competition in 2011. The concept, an ICON in the landscape, this outdoor 8 amphitheatre for 10,000 people, invites RUE DES URSULINES year-round activity on a new riverside park. A city square deconstructs on the riverside as a landscaped roof for the amphitheatre. The 3-dimensional façade, Modulation orchestrée creates a kinetic illusion that changes as we move along its face. 7



INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM YM-YWHA Montreal, QC ARCHITEM developed a Master Plan to revitalize the health centre and create a community centre that would attract the young members of the community. The concept maximized the introduction of natural light to social and circulation spaces. Visitors could catch glimpses into the reconfigured Gym, an open space over 2 floors creating a dynamic atmosphere.

INSTITUTIONAL CAMPUS VIEW ARCHITEM WATER BISHOP’S UNIVERSITY DIVINITY HOUSE VIEW Lennoxville, QC Design concept for a centre dedicated to Indigenous students for a gathering space and resource centre. Housed in a prominently located university building constructed in 1890, the concept maintains the architectural integrity of the house, while introducing modifications to provide an inviting, accessible centre that opens to the exterior with integrated landscape elements and views to the river and campus. INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM AKIVA LIBRARY’S NEW INNOVATION LAB Westmount, QC Akiva library’s New Innovation Lab will be built in the existing space of the current multi-media room and computer lab, with resources also extending into the library. Our vision includes several key sections, all linked by the overarching theme of hands-on creativity, design thinking and project-based learning. The Creation Station will be dedicated to the media where the students can create content using voice, images and video. The Digital Workshop Robotics, coding and digital design will take place in the Digital Workshop section of the Lab. The Resource Community Building Centre will support the school’s culture and values of positive relationships and community. The Makerspace space for students will be able to infuse life and STEAM design skills into academics projects. completion: 2018

INSTITUTIONAL ARCHITEM MONTREAL HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL CENTRE Montreal, QC The Feasibility Study for a new extension to the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre focussed on increasing the centre’s public presence on the street and reorganizing its exhibition and administrative space over 3 floors. Inserted between two existing buildings, the museum’s new gallery volume is composed of transparent and solid elements, creating a mass surrounded by natural light, to evoke a sense of history and hope. feasibility study budget: $ 3 M project area: 1900 sq. m. 2013/2019

COMMERCIAL ARCHITEM BROWNS HEAD OFFICE & NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTRE Saint-Laurent, QC Awarded LEED Silver Certification, the innovative architecture for this new building has become an identifiable image for a corporation committed to design excellence and the wellbeing of its team. The building’s design incorporates an existing silver maple grove within its architectural expression and planning. Composed of two distinct volumes, the large warehouse at the rear with its dark solid panels provides a backdrop to the ephemeral glazed administration volume. Selected as a finalist for the OAQ Prix d’excellence, this project was awarded the Real Estate Award of Excellence in 2015 by the IDU.
