MEA NEWS Work to draw down £25 million in government funding for the development of football stadia across the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council (MEABC) area has moved forward with the establishment of an Elected Member Forum. Earlier this year, Larne FC, Ballymena United and Carrick Rangers joined forces with MEABC to form MEA United, and since then the joint bid to the Department for Communities has gained momentum. Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston, said: “It was really encouraging to see so many Elected Members attend the workshop events and the feedback from the clubs has been really positive.“In my hometown of Carrickfergus there was a real enthusiasm with councillors hearing from the club first-hand about their future plans. As Mayor, I am delighted to endorse all three clubs.“Sport, particularly football, within Mid and East Antrim, plays a key role in ensuring active healthy lifestyles and community participation and engagement.“The opportunity to enhance facilities and bring them up to a higher standard will ensure the health and safety of users and assist in creating facilities which increase and enhance community participation and involvement.“This will ultimately contribute to individual and community health and wellbeing and it is very encouraging to see other clubs in Northern Ireland have now called on their councils to do the same as Mid and East Antrim.”
WWW.BRAVEHEARTSNI.COM/DONATE Aims - BraveheartsNI aim is to support teenagers and young adults in Northern Ireland with congenital heart disease and support their families providing pastoral and welfare support. Objectives - BraveheartsNI will build a network of support for CHD patients in NI with responsibility being assumed by the Bravehearts themselves. All work through BraveheartsNI will be completed on a volunteer basis with all funds raised or donated being used directly where needed within NI. The Bravehearts themselves will gain strength and friendship by working alongside each other supporting and encouraging themselves and others in their efforts to reach other Bravehearts and their families. This will make huge strides in combating isolation within this small demographic group and will give Bravehearts a purpose that they can control and develop. Remaining a volunteer patient led charity is of the utmost importance to us. We have already built an extremely strong ethos and have been rewarded for this by support and donations.
COMMUNITY NEWS PACKS DOREEN LAST BAGS AS SALVATION ARMY GETS READY TO CLOSE Between filling vans for Romania with clothing, wooly hats, knitted personally, or with shoe boxes at Christmas, Doreen Armstrong has been at the helm of the Salvation Army shop in Ballymena over the course of the last number of decades. However, it is now coming to the end of an era. The Salvation Army shop on Broughshane St can not compete with the current situation and it's demands and therefore has been forced into closure. This is a very sad time for Doreen and Helen McGuckien who has also given the best part of her life to serving her station. People like this within the community are going to be sadly missed. The services they prevailed in their own home town was that of a deep necessity within the community. In many ways it is actually heartbreaking to think that such people who have given so much are to soon walk away from what in many ways was \"Their Life.\" The Weekly Bugle wishes to take this opportunity to wish all staff members who have serviced gracefully in the Salvation Army shop in Ballymena a happy Christmas and a peaceful healthy new year.

ULSTER RUGBY ZEBRE 14 ULSTER 57 Ulster consolidated their position in Conference A of the Guinness PRO14 with a nine-try demolition of Zebre in Parma on Monday evening. Player- of-the-Match, Marcell Coetzee - on his 50th appearance for the Ulster men - scored a haul of four tries. Ulster started strongly, putting in wave after wave of attacking phases, before Marcell Coetzee marked his 50th appearance for the province by muscling his way over the line after five minutes. Bill Johnston confidently added the conversion. The Italian side was quick to respond, when Pierre Bruno did well to keep hold of the ball from a cross-field kick, and after a TMO check, the try was deemed to be grounded. Antonio Rizzi brought the scores level after 11 minutes. Marcell Coetzee got his second score of the night off the back of a dominant Ulster maul, the back-row doing really well to get the ball down over a pile of Zebre bodies over the line. Zebre had the opportunity to reduce the deficit in the 27th minute through a penalty but Rizzi’s kick was off-target.Ulster immediately went on the attack again, with full-back Michael Lowry going on a superb run down the left wing, his pass sent loose by a Zebre hand, which Stewart Moore gratefully collected to dot down. Marcell Coetzee made it a hat-trick of tries when he snuck through the middle of an advancing Ulster maul for his third score of the evening and Ulster’s four-try bonus point just before the break. Johnston slotted the extras.

THE FIRMUS ENERGY BSML In Adherence with government regulations the BSML wish to clarify. Statement from the Irish Football Association. “At an online meeting of the County Antrim Junior Shield Committee, which was attended by our two County Antrim representatives, the following decision was taken unanimously by that Committee; “The County Antrim Junior Shield Committee have considered the current situation created by the delays to the season. The Committee is aware of difficulties which further delays could cause both clubs and their leagues. With the prospect of further delays, due to clubs having players face Covid-19 isolation periods and likely government embargoes, it has with regret, been decided to #withhold this year’s competition.” As a result of this, a further 8 Saturdays have now been freed up in the 2020/2021 season which will aid the BSML in our attempts to complete the current season, while at the same time following any further Northern Ireland Executive embargoes and IFA directives and also the prospect of further developments in the restriction of the COVID-19 virus in the weeks and months ahead to enable us to return to some sort of normality in our football lives. Further updates will appear here on our Facebook page after any consultations with our BSML Council and our BSML Football Clubs where necessary.
