President’s MessageDear readers,As the new year is almost upon us, this is a time to look back and to reflect on thedays past. GAMA had an eventful 2018 where we hosted a bunch of our regularactivities and events. We saw unprecedented participation for SaReGAMA this year, withtalented children in the community participating in over 15 events over a course of twodays. Spring Fest, which was organized in May was a great opportunity for AustinMalayalees to meet in an informal setting, with good food and fun games. GAMA’sChristmas/New Year event saw more community attendance compared to previous yearsand was the perfect culmination for the events of 2018.GAMA catered to the sports-lovers of Austin with a variety of successfully organizedtournaments – Soccer, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball/Throwball and Cricket. We were alsoable to regularly bring top Malayalam movies to Austin for your entertainment. This year’smovies included Kayamkulam Kochunni and Odiyan – mega-budget movies which werescreened in a packed auditorium.In addition to our events, we conduct regular Malayalam classes for children ranging from 5-18 years. This year, GAMA in collaboration with University of Texas, Austin, conducted thefirst graduation exam for our senior Malayalam students. These students graduated thecourse and were felicitated on September 9.GAMA’s youth wing GYG is a group of highly motivated children, who actively participate inall GAMA activities and events and find creative ways to give back to the community whiledeveloping their organizational and leadership skills.

President’s MessageGAMA, as a non-profit organization, makes it our goal to give back to the community withevery opportunity we get. In April, we partnered with La Frontera Dental in conducting afree oral cancer screening camp which was very well received by the community.GAMA holds a special place in my heart and it has been my privilege and honor to serve asthe fourteenth president of this organization. My sincere thanks to the team of 16 directorswho led the organization this year. Of these, 8 directors (Anu Mahesh, Arif Rasheed,Bhagheerathy Rabishanker, Binu R. Babu, Remesh Chandra, Sankarnath Pangapattu, SureshVenukuttan and myself) have completed the two-year term on GAMA board.I would like to welcome the new directors who joined the GAMA board this year – HildaOlekangal, Manesh Sasidharan, Midhun Kadavil, Neeraj K.M., Prajeeshdas Elimban, PraveenKanjiramkatte, Renjith Rajendran, Sanil Raveendran and Vijay Pooloth. They will be joiningthe continuing directors – Geo Joseph, Jacob P. Thomas, Rakhesh Raveendran, SajeevSadasivan, Shine Thankappan, Sreejith Nambiar, Sreekant Nair and Uma Iyer to form theboard of 2019. I wish them all the best for a successful year ahead.I would like to take this moment to thank all the selfless volunteers and supporters whodevoted countless hours of their time in making each and every GAMA event a hugesuccess. Annual ReportGreater Austin Malayalee Association (GAMA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitableorganization for Indian Americans who have roots in Kerala and are bonded by the commonlanguage of Malayalam. The association is administered by the Board of Directors, whichconsisted of 16 members this year. Since January 2018, the board of directors have metmonthly to plan, prepare and organize several cultural and artprograms. Thanks to the Austin community, we have had tremendous participation this year.We hereby submit the annual report for the year 2018 and apologize if we have omitted thecontribution or achievement of any team/individual in this summary.SponsorshipGAMA as a non-profit Organization, will always need support from Sponsors, who provide usthe financial base for various nonprofit and other community activities throughout the year.The current year’s Sponsorship team has done a tremendous job by on-boarding severalnew businesses to our sponsorship portfolio. For the year 2018, we have had a total of 20sponsors supporting us, which is a record number in the history of GAMA.

Annual ReportWeb / Social MediaTo facilitate effective communication regarding news, events and activities to thecommunity, GAMA uses the website, the Facebook group, the Twitter handle, text messagesand Weekly communication emails. In 2018, the web team launched a completelyredesigned GAMA website and are planning to launch new visual media in early 2019MoviesWe are so fortunate to have amazing movie lovers in our community and GAMA took this asa privilege for bringing great movies to you. So far, this year, we were able to screen 8movies. We were also able to add a new theater to our arsenal, which is enabling earlyscreening of movies. Thank you, movie lovers, for your continued support!SportsGAMA Sports team organizes all sports related events and tournaments throughout theyear. Our soccer tournament is looked up on as one of the best by other communities aswell. This year, GAMA sports team included kids’ section for table tennis tournament withthe focus of giving a stepping stone for our young talents in to the world of competition. Thevolleyball tournament that was organized for helping the flood victims in Kerala, saw greatparticipation and cooperation from other Indian communities also. We also hadtournaments in Cricket and Tennis as well.Venues & NewsletterThe team did a fantastic job in this challenging environment to get the right venues for allGAMA events this year. The team continues to release newsletters on a regular basisfocusing not just the achievements of GAMA, but also publishing works of art/prose fromthe community and its members.

Annual ReportMalayalam SchoolIn an ongoing effort to continue our rich heritage, we are trying to help our younggeneration learn and be fluent in our mother tongue, GAMA conducts Malayalam classesevery Saturday evening at Mathenasium, Cedar Park. The tutors follow the UT Austinsyllabus and the academic year runs from September until May. Malayalam School’s firstbatch of senior students instructed by Mr Animon Jose graduated the Malayalam course setby the Department of Asian Studies at UT Austin on Sep 22.GYGGAMA youth group or GyG for short is the youth wing of GAMA. Membership is open tomiddle and high schoolers, who are at least 12 years of age. In addition to the monthly GYGmeetings, the group is also provided with opportunities to assist and volunteer at variousGAMA events. They organize field trips and receive mentoring and guidance, as necessary.This year there was around 20 kids (continuing and new) enrolled in GYG with SrutiRamachandran as President, Aaditya Ranjit as Vice President and Akshaya Ranjit asSecretary.InventoryDuring 2018, GAMA replenished various reusable assets to our inventory. To better managethe growing inventory of items, an inventory app was introduced this year. GAMA also rentsout most of the inventory items to other associations/organizations on an as needed basis.In conclusion, we are delighted to report a year of continued success for GAMA. GAMAcontinues to incrementally improve every year, getting better at everything we do withtremendous support from volunteers and the community. We hereby wish to thank you allfor your support.

Kerala Flood relief The total amount we raised was $78600, which was transferred to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.In August, we witnessed Kerala going through a terrible tragedy - heavy rains, floods andlandslides rendered hundreds of thousands of people homeless and claimed many lives.Many of our own families were impacted directly or indirectly. As this tragedy was unfoldingin Kerala, GAMA made the decision to cancel our flagship Onam event this year. Instead, wefocused our efforts in raising funds through various avenues:• We set up a GoFundMe campaign to facilitate online donations, and raised a total of $44,000.• The next big contribution came in the form of corporate matching - specifically Dell, Apple and eBay. We raised a total of over $19,000 dollars from corporate donations.• Thanks to most of our Onam ticket holders who opted to donate their ticket amounts to the relief efforts rather than get a refund, we raised an additional $3300.• GAMA organized a charity Volleyball/Throwball tournament, from which the net proceeds went towards flood relief. Dr. Satish Thirumalai of La Frontera Dental graciously matched the amount we raised for the volleyball tournament, making it a total of $1600.• On top of all this, GAMA donated an additional amount of $10,000.GAMA would like to thank every single person who contributed generously to this causeand supported us in this campaign.

New GAMA BOD HILDA OLEKANGALI am an IT professional working as a Business Intelligence architectfor Q2. We livein Ranch at Brushy Creek with my spouse, Roy and 2kids (3 if you include the puppy). I am very passionate about musicand dance. My other interests are interior decorating and watchingmovies. MANESH SASIDHARAN I was born in Kollam and grew up in Alappuzha. I have been in US for the past 10 years and in Austin for the last 4. I live with my wife Lekshmi, son Abhinav and daughter Amala. I work as an IT consultant Architect for Emerson. I like playing sports , reading books and enjoy watching movies. MIDHUN KADAVILMy name is Midhun Kadavil and I hale from a Thrissur, Viyoor to beexact. I have been in Austin for almost 6 yrs. I live with my wife,Angela Antony, my daughter, Zara Kadavil and a puppy, Rosco. Iwork for a company named, StoneBridge Consulting, and am aSenior Business Intelligence Developer. My wife and I are proudalumnis of Texas A&M. My interests include music, the outdoorsand cooking to name some of them.

New GAMA BOD NEERAJ K M My Name is Neeraj Kommaneri Manayil and I hail from Mananthavady, Wayanad District. I have been living in Austin for the past 6 ½ years along with my wife Smitha and 2 kids – Ishaan and Naomi. I work for PeopleFluent Inc as a Senior Software Engineer. My hobbies are playing Tennis and cricket with my friends. PRAJEESHDAS ELIMBANMy name is Prajeeshdas and I grew up in a small village inThallassery with my family of eight. I have been living in Austin forthe last 3 years with my wife and 4 year old kid. I work for DellTechnologies as a Lead Developer. I am passionate abouttechnology and spend my spare time on social networking, playingcricket and soccer. PRAVEEN KANJIRAMKATTE My name is Praveen Kanjiramkatte and I live in Cedar Park with my wife, Sowmya and 2 little daughters, Samrita and Samveda. We have been in the US for about 15 years and moved from Los Angeles to Austin in 2013. We are originally from Palakkad, Kerala though I grew up mostly in Karnataka. I am currently working as a senior project manager at Mitratech, a legal software solutions company based in Austin with branches in Europe and India. My hobbies include singing, learning ancient history and vegetable gardening. I have learnt Carnatic classical music for a few years. I also practice and teach yoga to my neighbors and friends. Trivia - I believe my last name is one of the top 10 tongue twisters for Americans and maybe even Malayalees!

New GAMA BOD RENJITH RAJENDRANI am Renjith Rajendran, working as a Respiratory Therapist. I wasborn and grew up in Vaikom near kottayam and moved to theUnited States in 2004. I Graduated from Gulf Coast State College,Florida in 2009 and we moved to Austin. I live in Cedar Park withmy wife Deepa and two daughters, Nayana and Devna. I am anavid music lover and love Sports!!! I like to play various musicalinstruments like keyboard and Chenda. We have a chendamelamgroup called Keli and recently performed at the Austin Hindutemple. I love to cook especially non-veg dishes like beef, chickenand Kakka irachi. I also like to play badminton volleyball tennisand table tennis which helps me to be energetic. SANIL RAVEENDRAN My name is Sanil and I hail from Pathanamthitta. My wife Seema, and two kids – Gautham and Greeshma moved to Austin in 2013 and we have been GAMA members since then. You would see me engaged with various school/kids activities. I am currently volunteering as a coach for a middle school robotics team, and trying to learn from the kids ;-) . Travel and photography are my other hobbies. VIJAY POOLOTHI was born and brought up in Thrissur. I finished my B.Tech inElectronics & Communication from Thrissur Engineering College. Igot a job in Infosys Bangalore and worked with them for over 20years in US, Canada and UK. I relocated to Austin around 3 yearsback and have settled down in Round Rock, TX with my small familyof wife Dhanya and a 11 year old son Rehaan. I currently work withCharles Schwab. MoviesWe are so fortunate to have amazing movie lovers in our community and we, the movieteam take this as a privilege for bringing great movies to you. So far this year, we were ableto screen 8 movies and going strong and we will continue in the next year as well. This year we started with the blockbuster movie “Aadu 2”, starring Jayasurya; a sequel of “Aadu”. Our Austin movie family received “Shaaji Pappan” and his friends with their open hearts! Following this great start, we were able to bring Pranav Mohanlal’s debut movie “Aadhi” and Kalidas Jayaram’s debut movie “Poomaram”. Both star kid’s movies were very well received by our community.Based on the request from our soccer lovers GAMA movie team was able to bring the movie“Sudani from Nigeria” which touched movie lovers heart with the natural rendition of thecharacters, with the amazing storyline and great performances by “not so known” actors inthe movie. Throughout this year GAMA movie team had to face many challenges,fortunately our team stood up to the occasion and was able to cut a deal with the partnersand deliver the moves to our Austin community.

Movies During the month of August GAMA was able to do a double dhamaka of movies featuring “Neerali” and “Koode”.We then went all out to show the highestbudget movie ever produced in Malayalamindustry - “Kayamkulam Kochunni” whichwas well received by our movie fraternity.This year, we introduced Galaxy 10 theatrealong with Southwest Theaters to hostMalayalam moviesOur team is still actively looking to bring new movies to you. GAMA kept the best for lastwith a grand finale of two shows of “Odiyan”. All this is possible due to the continuedsupport from our amazing movie loving community. Thank you

Christmas 2018GAMA kicked off the holiday season celebration by organizing a Christmas event at CDFulkes Middle School on Dec 8th, 2018. Director Suresh Venukuttan welcomed the audience.Chief Guest Rev Fr Sam Mathew of the St Gregorios Orthodox church of Austin inauguratedthe event by lighting the lamp and conveying a message about the spirit of Christmas.This was followed by a number of events, like classical & fusion dances and performances bya number of children from the community. GAMA felicitated their sponsors without whomnone of the events held year round would have been possible.Secretary Remesh Chandra delivered the annual report and this was followed by the annualgeneral body meeting. The directors who had served their two year term – KamalVijaykumar (President), Anu Mahesh(Vice President/Treasurer [Sep-Dec]), Remesh Chandra(Secretary), Arif Rasheed, Bagheerathy Rabishanker, Binu Babu, Suresh Venukuttan werepresented mementos

Xmas ‘18 MomentsGAMA also elected new board members for the years 2019-2020. Santa Claus visited thecommunity and gave a message to the community. The patrons were able to take pictureswith him.The event culminated with the national anthems of both USA and India rendered by GYGmembers and a Vote of Thanks by director Binu Babu. All the attendees were provided anarray of sumptuous food catered by Chennai Café.

SoccerGAMA organized its second Summer Soccer Tournament in June 2018. Four neighborhoodteams - Kuttanadan Salahs, Malabar Messis, Kochi Cristianos, and Thekkan Neymars - tookpart in the tournament held at Brushy Creek Sports Park. With the generous support from theteam sponsors (PSG Group of Companies, Mathews CPA Inc, Trusted Realty and Hello InfinityBusiness Solutions), GAMA introduced team jerseys for the first time in this tournament. After an exciting round of league matches, Thekkan Neymars clashed with Kochi Cristianos in the finals. Following a grueling battle in which both teams scored one goal each, Kochi Cristianos were crowned the champions after a penalty shootout (score 4-2). In the third-place playoffs, Malabar Messis triumphed over Kuttanadan Salahs with a score of 3-2.GAMA President – Kamal Vijayakumar and the team sponsors gave away the rolling trophyto Kochi Cristianos team and medals to the finalists. Table TennisGAMA conducted the 2018 Table Tennis Tournament on Sep 29th at the Austin TableTennis Club. Volley Ball/ Throw BallGAMA conducted 2018 Volleyball and Throwball tournament on 27th October. This year thetournament was opened up to other communities and we were delighted to see greatparticipation and competition from the teams. The event was also conducted as a fundraiserto help rebuild Kerala affected by recent floods. Net proceeds from the event was bedonated to Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) towards flood reliefIn Volleyball finals, Lazy Boyz defeated Austin Powers in straight sets to win the trophy whilein Throwball, Austin Tuskers triumphed over Sweet Potatoes. GAMA's ever-rolling trophieswere presented to the winning teams by our Platinum Plus sponsor Dr Satish Thirumalaifrom La Frontera Dental.

CricketGAMA’s 2018 T8 Cricket Tournament held on Nov 3rd at Hill Country Cricket AssociationAustin TX was a huge success! Six teams clashed against each other in an intense andnail biting finish to the finals. Team Narasimham beat Aliyanz by 17 runs in the final.

( പാന്റും ഷൂസുംധരിച്ചു എനന്ന ആദ്യമായി കാണുന്ന അവൾ, ഒരു പതിഞ്ഞ ചിരിടയാന , ഇ ക്കിന ,ഒളിഞ്ഞു ട ാക്കുന്നത് ഞാൻ കണ്ടിലല എന്നു ിച്ചു. )പതിറ്റാണ്ടുകളുന 'സവടദ്ര വാസത്തി ു' വിരാമമിട്ു ഒരു ആരംഭകാരന്നറസഭാകമ്പടത്താന ദ്ുബായിലിറങ്ങി. ടഹാട്ലിൽ നചക്കിങ് നചയ്ക്ത്, കൂന കൂട്ാൻ വന്നബന്ധുക്കളുന കൂന പുറത്തിറങ്ങി. ഗര ശ്പദ്ിേണവും അത്താഴവും അവരുന ഒപ്പംകഴിഞു വീണ്ടും എയർടപാർട്ിൽ.അടപ്പാടഴക്കും മ സ്‌ ഒരു വിടദ്ര യാശ്തക്ക് പാകനപട്ു കഴിഞ്ഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.
