Joslyn Art Museum

Joslyn Art Museum collects, preserves, and interprets the visual arts of the highest quality, fostering appreciation and enjoyment of art for the benefit of a diverse audience. Our Vision — To be cherished and respected as a premier art museum.

Knoll is a constellation of design-driven brands and people, working together with our clients to create inspired modern interiors. Since 1938, we’ve been thinking about how people interact with their environments, and how their environments impact what they do. These are the ideas essential to our work.

Nebraska’s largest art museum first opened its doors in 1931 with the iconic Joslyn Memorial Building. Joslyn Art Museum has remained committed to a public-facing mission, it stands among the most important cultural institutions in Omaha and the region at-large. The original Memorial Building, clad in vibrant Georgia Pink marble and regarded as one of the finest historical examples of the Art Deco style.

Less than a century after their construction, Modernist masterpieces— critical documents in the history of architecture— are being routinely demolished, disfigured or abandoned. As part of Knoll’s effort to contribute to the communities where we do business, we are the founding sponsor of the World Monuments Fund (WMF) Modernism at Risk program. WMF is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the world’s architectural heritage.

In the new gallery spaces, the public will have unprecedented access to works from the nationally-renowned Phillip G. Schrager Collection of Contemporary Art. The Museum received a transformative gift of over fifty works from that collection, instantly propelling Joslyn to a new position on the international museum stage and greatly expanding the range of twentieth-century artists represented in its collection.

Design transcends style, it creates coherence in a chaotic world. Steeped in the history of modernism, our vision is carried forward today by the most talented contemporary designers to bring order and beauty to life and work. Well-designed objects deliver efficiency, joy and satisfaction to the people who use them.

The weightlessness of the addition will be accentuated by transparent glass walls on the ground floor which will enclose the museum’s new lobby, store, and multi-purpose spaces. Daylit galleries for the display of sizable portions of Joslyn’s expansive collection will be supplemented by new classrooms and gathering spaces, which the museum hopes will help foster new community connections.

Today, we are inspiring a new generation with a dedication to the most innovative and dynamic designs for corporations, healthcare organizations, educational institutions and civic centers. Whether the goal is to encourage teamwork, set ergonomic guidelines, plan for new technologies or reinvent the office, we work closely with customers to solve workplace issues and accommodate the diversity of its users.
