For the last several months, the History Center held an ambitious fundraising campaign to raise $5 million from the community in support of the new York County History Center. We are proud of the efforts of the campaign co-chairs and cabinet as they have shown the leadership necessary to take on the challenge of fundraising for this project. The support of the community has been overwhelming. So much so in the final months of 2017, we are poised to move beyond our original fundraising goal! What does meeting and exceeding the fundraising goal mean for our project? It means that York Countians recognize the significance of building a new museum, library and archives and the need to preserve York’s unique history. It also means that how we tell our stories within the exhibits is paramount to providing the best visitor experience possible. It means that more of the precious documents housed in our library and archives can be made available to the public through interactive technology. We have accomplished a great deal within the last six months. The members of the campaign cabinet have been engaged in thoughtful conversations with our members and donors. Many, through their affiliation with our organization, already knew of the project and its potential impact in our community. However, for some, it was an opportunity to reconnect with the History Center and explore the opportunity for future involvement. These conversations have been well-received.
