    The Origins of “Tuse” dith Marie Roane-Smith, 59, of Indian Neck, VA was called home on August 2, 2019. Edith was born in King & Queen County, Virginia on July 18, 1960 to Edith and Clarence “Tane” Roane. She is survived by her two daughters, Edith a ended King & Queen Central Mrs. Elonda Smith of Jacksonville, FL High School, graduated from Camden and Dr. Keyonda Smith of Fairfax, VA, High School (New Jersey) in 1978, and and one son, Tyrone Smith of Indian Neck, VA; Camden County College, where she 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and majored in Accoun ng. three sisters, Dorothy Mae Roane of Richmond, VA, Margaret (John) Butler of King Earlier in life, Edith worked at the William, VA, and Mary Lou Smith of Campbell Soup Corpora on in Camden, Tappahannock. VA; including one sister-in- NJ and the Department of Medicaid law, Esther Roane of Richmond, VA; two Services in Richmond, VA. brothers Robert (Rosemary) Roane of Clementon, NJ and Reginald (Regina) Roane of King George, VA; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends, including her two closest friends and confidants, Tracey Smith of Cauthornville, VA and Peggy Ayers of Aylett, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Clarence “Tane” Roane; sister, Mertene Roane, and five brothers, George, Floyd, James, William, and Clarence Roane.  Edith (Ædgyth) (Ēadgӯð) is derived from the Old English word of ēad, meaning “strife for wealth”, and ġṭ ð, meaning 'prosperous in war', originally named for the Queen of England (Edith of Wessex) in 1045, the sole survivor of her siblings during the Battle of Stamford Bridge and the Battle of Hastings. The name Ēadgӯð was well attested and reserved for use only by royalty. Variants: Edythe (English), Édith (French), Edit (Swedish), Edita (Slavic). 2

”Don’t cut off your nose, to spite your face.  Interes ng Facts About Edith  Although Edith was young in age, her Believe it or not, she LOVED to eat!!! A true foodie! ”advice typically consisted of old wise idioms and aphorisms. Below are only a few.  Her favorite foods: Pork chops, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, lima beans, grapes, cantaloupe, and anything barbequed.  During the early 1990s she was ADDICTED to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. If she had a few extra dollars, she’d spend it on Reese’s.  Her favorite color is coral. But it hasn’t always been; in the early 2000s, her favorite color was turquoise.  While living in Richmond, during the early 1990s, in the winter, she would allow a few homeless people to sleep in the hallway of her duplex apartment on Clay Street.  Her favorite movie is “Sparkle”. She knew every song and could recite the actor’s lines verbatim.  Her favorite perfume is Red Door by Elizabeth Arden  When residing in Camden, NJ, among other skills, she braided hair for a living.  In the 1980s and 1990s, her favorite wine coolers were Bartles & Jaymes and Zima.  She ran track (sprinter) in high school and mastered tennis while living in Camden and attending community college.  She was the best woodchopper. She split wood using an ax without a wedge or chopping block. There’s so much more, can you think of something we may not know? Although the world now appears so bare, Unseen, unheard, but I regret that you had to feel so much pain. always near; still loved, Constantly, your wanting to stay, left a stain. still missed, and still very dear.” ~Us Every day you run across my mind. Unspoken words that you left behind. 4 Undone tasks and chores that are left to do. No more sharing of what you knew. A Personal Angel, Just for Me Edith’s Favorite Things When I awake in the morning And yes, this is I always look up to the sky a country ham.
