Name of the game: Numbers Puzzle Materials: Number puzzle (printed or own made) Skills: Reading, speaking, writing, counting Vocabulary: 1 to 10 numbers HOW TO PLAY? We can find number puzzles on the internet or we can make our own number puzzle with the items we want, for example: we need 10 rectangular cardboard cards to make our animals puzzle, so we have to stick a number 1 (on the left side) and 1 cat (on the right side of a card), a number 2 (on the left side) and 2 cats (on the right side) in another and so on. Then we can cut the cards into halves so that way we have the pictures in one of the halves and the numbers on the others. After making the puzzle, we can mix the pieces and our students have to make pairs and say the numbers. Also if we want, they can write the numbers on the board. Name of the game: Find the match Materials: Cards with numbers and colours in English and native language Skills: Language skills, motor skills Vocabulary: Revision of numbers from 1 to 10 and colours HOW TO PLAY? 1.Children are divided in pairs using matching cards. Each child draws a card and has to find a partner with the same picture as soon as the teacher counts to 5. 2.Each pair gets a set of cards. 3.Children try to match the pairs of words as quickly as they can. 4.After children find all the pairs, they turn over English cards and reading Lithuanian words they have to say English words. Name of the game: Gender game Materials: A piece of paper, a pen Skills: Writing skills Vocabulary: Family members, words male, female, gender HOW TO PLAY? 1) Children divide a piece of paper into two columns. On the top of one column they write FEMALE on the top of the second column – MALE. 2) Teacher says the words – mother, father, daughter, son, grandfather, grandmother, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew. Children have to write the words in the correct columns. 3) Points are given for the correct spelling and correct selection of the column. In total each child can get 20 points. However, teacher can give more points for spelling, for instance, 2 points for each correctly written word. So, a child can get 3 points for one word and 30 points in total. 4) One more option (an easier one) – children see the full list of words on the board and have to group them. One student thinks about a classroom object (from the ones we choose before). He or she has to write as many spaces as letters are in the word. Pupils take turns and tell a letter. İf the letter appears on the word, the student will write it, if not, we can draw a line and the wrong letter (we have six opportunities). The game ends when a student guess the word or when the class looses its opportunities to guess the word and the student has to reveal the answer. Then, another student is chosen to write a word. The game can be played as a warm up at the beginning of the lesson Children stand up. Teacher shows the flashcard and say Simon says + any school object, for example – Simon says a ruler. If the word matches the flashcard, children have to jump. If the word differs from the flashcard, children have to squat down or stand still and do nothing. Children who make a mistake leave the game, sit down and wait. Instead of a teacher, any child can come in front of the class, show the flashcards and say the words. For younger kids: all the cards are on the table (picture visible) and they ask the card they want to a kid nearby the card. They can steal a card to another student (once they have it).
