History Of Malware What? ❏ Malware is short for malicious software, which is “ designed to gain access to or damage a computer, usually without the knowledge of the owner” When? ❏ First found in 1982 Where? ❏ Anyone can create malware and it can come from anywhere Why? ❏ Created to steal information from computers and harm software How? ❏ Malware can be created by hackers (people who get into your computers without your knowledge)

Types of Malware Viruses ❏ Attach themselves to files that require people to spread them ❏ Vary in severity ❏ Require people to take effect Worms ❏ Don’t require people ❏ Come through a backdoor ❏ Copy and spread Trojans ❏ Aren’t what they seem ❏ Require people to take effect ❏ Open backdoors and delete files

Latest Malware Type: Smartphone ❏ Name: Loapi Trojan Virus ❏ When: December 2018 ❏ Detection” Pop-up ads, site redirection, unfamiliar subscriptions ❏ Symptoms: Causes DDoS (attack on one system by corrupted systems), siphons money and banking information, causes device to overheat ❏ Removal: only preventable through updating operating systems, download antivirus software, and don’t allow 3rd party app installation

Detect, Prevent, Remove Malware

Detecting Malware ❏ Computer running slower than usual ❏ Excessive spam emails with suspicious content ❏ Files are deleted from your computer ❏ Programs on your computer open randomly ❏ Files are downloaded without you knowledge

Preventing Malware ❏ Keep your computer updated ❏ Download antivirus software ❏ Be aware of websites you use ❏ Delete suspicious files, emails, and websites ❏ Make sure your personal information (passwords, banks, etc.) are secure

Removing Trojans

Step #1 Download Norton Power Eraser on your device

Step #2 Run a Norton Rootkit scan for viruses

Step #3 Norton will then display the scan results. It will show what it considers risks and recommend you remove them.

Step #4 Make sure the box next to the risk is checked and click ‘Fix Now.’ If asked to restart the computer, do so.

Step #5 Enjoy a Trojan and malware free computer!
