Meet Kim “I found out about the apprenticeship through my store’s Usdaw Rep but also noticed the marketing materials that were placed around the store to help describe the programme. For myself, one of the main benefits of this programme was that it made me more confident to deliver valuable information to colleagues and customers. It has also helped me within my job role ensuring I know as much information as possible. Although I’m a confident person, I don’t have much belief. After finishing my apprenticeship and gaining a distinction, it really made me believe in myself more. There was plenty of support for me during my apprenticeship. My Lifetime Training Coach Lisa, my Lead Manager Steven, and other managers across the shopfloor helped me when I was learning more tasks within each department.” York Tadcaster Colleague Guide 3

Meet Leanne “I heard about the apprenticeship from my Lead Manager at the time. I was aware that one of my colleagues had just completed the programme, so I discussed their experiences and the benefits they gained with them, which included further confidence and understanding of retail and functional skills. The main benefits for me were, increasing my knowledge within my job, understanding the Tesco brand and influences, also gaining a better understanding of the Big 6 financial reports. The programme has given me confidence in communication and leadership skills, this helped when I returned to work after my maternity leave, and was promoted to Grocery Line Manager. I struggle with maths, however by utilising the coaching and attending virtual classrooms I passed my maths functional skills exam, which I was thrilled about. I’ve been supported by my coach Paula and my Line Manager Nadine. The apprenticeship programme has supported me in gaining alot of knowledge of not only retail, but about my communications skills too. It has also enabled me to develop myself further and gain a promotion.” Bracknell 11Colleague Guide

Meet Nigel “I found out about the apprenticeship from the marketing materials in store, I also heard about it through Dotcom colleagues who had shared positive experiences of the programme. As a veteran, the apprenticeship has given me a lease of life and built my confidence. It’s given me routine and structure and has been great for my wellbeing. During my time on the programme, I’ve learnt a lot about the retail sector, as well as how to deliver great customer service. I’ve learnt to think on my feet and deal with difficult situations more effectively. I completed the apprenticeship during the COVID-19 pandemic, so it was challenging at times to plan in time to complete my Learning Activities, but my coach, Line Manager and Store Manager gave me a great deal of support. Thanks to the apprenticeship, I have a better understanding of the retail sector, as well as issues that can arise within a store and how to deal with these. I’m now better at dealing with customers on the Click + Collect which was a facility that didn’t exist within the store before the pandemic.” Crediton 12 Colleague Guide
