FALL/WINTER 2020 2020 ANNUAL REPORT Ushering in a New Era page 6 A Mission of the Western District of the Moravian Church

LETTER FROM THE CEO Dear Friends of Marquardt Village, 2020 has been tough. We haven’t seen a pandemic like this for 100 years. Many of you have lost loved ones, are feeling cut off from family and friends, and are missing the comfort and joy that comes from familiar activities and routines. It was a tough year financially, too, for many people and businesses. Our annual report shows the pandemic’s effect on Marquardt Village. Nursing home admissions were down 40%, and Home Healthcare admissions were down 80%, which decreased our bottom line. Unfortunately, the pandemic also dealt a blow to our fundraising efforts, including the canceled Sporting Clay Shoot-Out, which supports hospice care for families. To fill the gap, we’re looking for other ways to reach our fundraising goals, from the yearly Wish List (page 12) to Facebook Birthday Celebrations (page 16). Thankfully, there are bright spots. We were in an incredibly strong financial situation coming into 2020, which has allowed us to weather the challenges. We’ve been able to avoid staff furloughs and keep everyone employed. Admissions are rebounding as people look to us for care and rehabilitative therapies. We’re finding ways to help residents stay connected to each other and their families (page 8). Our new Park Centre Apartments are complete (page 5), offering a new choice in senior living. With our new auditorium, we have a wonderful place to gather for special occasions, musical performances, worship services and more (page 6) once we’re able. We continue to work on new initiatives, including one to integrate technology into healthcare in new and exciting ways. While the pandemic has slowed progress, we’re still moving forward. I’ll update you on the initiatives as we learn more. I’m particularly grateful for our dedicated staff. They’ve worked hard under enormous pressure and in difficult circumstances. We’re blessed to have so many frontline heroes. To all of Marquardt Village’s residents and staff, friends and families, I know you’re facing hardships big and small but hang in there. We’ll make it through this together. If there’s anything we can do to help, please let us know. As 2020 comes to a close, we wish you and yours a safe and meaningful holiday. We look forward to handshakes and hugs in 2021. Blessings, THE MARQUARDT VILLAGE MISSION: Matthew Mauthe, CEO “Grounded in faith, we promote the health and well-being of each individual we serve.” 2020 Operating Annual Report ............................................................... 3 Planned Giving....................................................................................... 10, 11 Marquardt Foundation Annual Report .............................................. 4 Employee Spotlight .....................................................................................12 New Park Centre Apartments .................................................................. 5 Wish List ............................................................................................................12 New Chapel ................................................................................................. 6, 7 Donation Request .......................................................................................13 Pandemic Response ......................................................................................8 Donor Appreciation ............................................................................ 14, 15 Staff Appreciation .......................................................................................... 9 Facebook Birthday ..................................................................................... 16 2

Marquardt Village’s Fall Wish List 2020 We’ve put together a Wish List of special items and little extras that help make life better for residents. Any dollar amount is appreciated. Let us know what you would like your donation to help make possible. Electronic Keyboard (about $2,839) We need to replace an electronic keyboard that’s used for musical entertainment and worship services in the Health Center. Listening to music is good for our health, mood and memory, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. Of course, it’s good for the soul. Worship Center Supplies (about $150 a week) To support worship services every Sunday, we have to pay for pulpit costs for visiting ministers as well as items used during worship services in the auditorium, such as candles, flowers and communion supplies, including wine and juice, which are restocked throughout the year. Items for Resident Auctions (about $400) Residents earn “auction dollars” at events throughout the year. They use them to bid on items such as stamps, snacks and holiday decorations at live auctions organized by our activities staff. It’s a favorite! To donate online, visit MarquardtVillage.org/Giving/Wish-List. 12

Celebrate Your Birthday on Facebook If you’re like most of us, you adore that family and friends want to give you a gift for your birthday, but you don’t need more stuff. What if they could express their generosity and thoughtfulness with something more meaningful to you? Facebook can help! As your birthday approaches, Facebook can let others know that you would prefer a donation to Marquardt Foundation in lieu of birthday presents. Recently, Sherry Cira, Chief Innovation Officer for Marquardt Management Services, posted a similar request. The Marquardt Village staff appreciation fund received $1,270 in honor of her birthday. What a big impact! Give it a try. It’s easy. 1045 Hill Street Watertown, WI 53098 • Go to your Facebook home page and click the “Plus Sign” Phone: 920-206-4663 at the top MarquardtVillage.org • Click “Fundraiser” then “Nonprofit” • Type in “Marquardt Foundation” in Watertown, WI • On the next screen, the information is pre-filled, but you can change it. For example, you can type in why you want to raise money for Marquardt Village. (“Heroes work here. For my birthday, I’d love to show my appreciation for the staff. In lieu of birthday gifts, please consider donating.”) • Click “Post” If you need help setting it up, call Cheryl Porior-Mayhew, Chief Development Officer, Marquardt Village is a not-for-profit life at (920) 206-4000 or email her at [email protected]. plan community sponsored by the Western District of the Moravian Church. Address changes or requests to be removed from the Marquardt Connections mailing list can be emailed to Sheri Lotzer at [email protected].
