Dashi Namdakov es especial y lo sabe. De hecho, todo aquel que conoce su obra se da cuenta de ello. Su historia lo hace único, tanto como sus creaciones y sus admiradores – desde Uma Thurman hasta el presidente Putin –. Su origen es, cómo mínimo, exótico: Namdakov nació en Siberia, en un territorio donde viven los Buryats, pueblo que se remonta a la época de Genghis Khan. Los Buryats viven alrededor del Baikal, el lago de agua dulce más grande y puro del mundo. Declarado por la UNESCO como Patrimonio Natural de la Humanidad, el Lago Baikal es también uno de los más antiguos, se calcula que su edad ronda entre los 25 y los 30 millones de años. Los nativos de la región creen que es un lago sagrado. Los Buryats vienen de los mongoles y, pese a que hoy disfrutan de su propio territorio – Estado Federal de Rusia – , durante muchos siglos fue un pueblo de pastores nómadas. Dashi nació en 1967 y desde su niñez se interesó por el arte. Su padre era un artesano conocido en el pueblo debido al buen hacer de sus obras. Así, desde pequeño el artista estuvo en contacto con las técnicas y las habilidades artesanas. A los 21 años Namdakov ingresó en el Instituto de Bellas Artes de Krasnoyarsk, en Siberia. Allí se empapó de conocimientos artísticos de la mano de grandes nombres rusos, como Lev Golovnitsky y otros miembros de la Academia Rusa de Bellas Artes. A los 33 años Dashi hizo su primera exposición en Irkutsk, Rusia. Fue entonces cuando los expertos se fjaron en su potencial y él empezó a exponer en diversas ciudades. A día de hoy está considerado como una eminencia en la escultura, la joyería y el arte visual. La crítica lo alaba, sus obras se venden a miles de euros y su trabajo ya ha creado escuela. Pero él parece no dar demasiada importancia a todo este revuelo, vive todavía a las orillas del lago Baikal y afrma que su inspiración la encuentra en el día a día, en su familia y en su cultura nativa. El pasado mes de junio Namdakov ofreció una exposición en Nueva York, en el National Arts Club, de más de 60 piezas incluyendo esculturas en bronce, arte gráfco y joyería.
