Farewell Right after we finished our exams, a sense of unimaginable relief came to us. We met our friends and shared lighter moments on how we survived our schooling days. Little did we realize that we did not finish anything and that we are just a step closer to the adventurous trail or perhaps ordeal - that is life. If things came to the worst we had to deal with it and that’s what we learnt from our masters. We were all invited by the school and our very own juniors to attend the Farewell Celebrations. On April 6th,on a bright amber tinted afternoon ,we gathered to celebrate what I call the “Coda of 2016-2017”. It started off with a beautiful show of talent and fun by our juniors expressing their love and regard for us. It was a treat to the eyes.04 PIONEER - April 2017

All of it culminated in a quirky and fun way of appreciation to us byadorning us with sashes which had apt and sometimes amazing titles.A quaint but vibrant ceremony ,where we were also accompanied byour very own teachers , our respectable heads of the institution who infact, very much involved in the gentle merriment. JOPHERSON RAJU G 12 B (2016-2017)From a few, finishing school life....................\"To be a part of something extraor- \"A farewell was very necessary beforedinarily special is not something all we all could meet again. It was verycan achieve but spending it with an well gone with mixed up emotions ofunlikely bunch of exceptional laughters, excitements, happiness, people was truly an adventure like honor and tears. Now when we lookno other.\" back it is one of the many proud moments that is being missed.\" - Devika - Arafa\"I enjoyed the farewell. Thank you \"The informal event arranged andfor creating memories that I would organized by the 11th Graders wasnever forget. It was an amazing done in a spectacular manner. It wasfarewell. Once again thank you one of the best and unforgettablejuniors for all the love.\" events.\" - Ayushi - Je reyPIONEER - April 2017 05

\"Bittersweet\" \"Two years of hard work from us, our \"The last day was the best day.\" - Tejaswi teachers and parents had brought us - Sakshi to that day, where we would be nally graduating, a vibe of nervous- ness and excitement coursing through. Honoured to be one among the rst batch of Bhavans to graduate in the prestigious ceremony, L'chiam, amidst all my loved ones, yes, a happy event! A sad event as well, as we bid adieu to our school life to say 'hello' with an awkward smile to the next phase of life. Yet another journey, yet another adventure.\" -Hanah06 PIONEER - April 2017

PATH TO BETTER PARENTING The process of parenting is definitely not as easy as it sounds; and ‘effective parenting’ is indisputably an art that is tougher. Dr. Vivek Ullatil, Consultant Child Psychiatrist- Renai Medicity Hospital, Cochin, Kerala, held a workshop for parents on 22.04.2017 at ‘Ram Manch’ from 2.30 pm to 5 pm and the focus was on the topic ‘Effective Parenting’. Dr. Vivek Ullatil spoke on LD, ADHD, ASD, Phobia, TIC Disorder, Anxiety, ENURESIS, New Age Addictions (Social Media), Eating Disorders, Behavioral Issues in children, to mention a few. He also suggested that children with such concerns would surely better if help and guidance, in the form of Medical Intervention, Behavioral Modification and Remedial Training, is extended at the right time. He also highlighted the fact that Life-Skill training from an early age works well to address any such concern. Ms. Mini Sathyanath, one of the parents, delivered the Vote of Thanks. The parent also thanked PIES for organizing such events that help every parent to better this art. The session, attended by nearly 150 parents, enabled them to ponder deeper into these areas to improve their parenting skills. Prior to the session for par- ents, Dr. Vivek Ullatil held a workshop for teachers on the various methods to skillfully deal with children with diverse challenges. Here’s What A Parent Shares………… The awareness session conducted by Dr Vivek was very helpful in under- standing the various aspects of deviant childhood behavior and the prob- lems related to it.PIONEER - April 2017 07

He familiarized us with simple-to-remember scenarios that help us in identifying abnormal characteristics that children could possibly manifest. This certainly will lead to early consultation with experts thereby benefitting the children and parents immensely. I express my sincere gratitude to the senior management of PIES, Abu Dhabi for conducting such wonderful learning sessions. HEALTHY FOOD = STAYING FIT PIES proudly launched the week-long 09 campaign FARE HEALTHY WEEK from 16th to 20th April ’17. The primary focus of such activities remains in bringing about an increased awareness on ‘eating healthy’. In this fast-paced world where everything ‘fast’ is taken to be the best option, including ‘fast food’, PIES believes in building a healthy community where every child realizes the importance of eating healthy and the need to stay physically fit.PIONEER - April 2017

Students from G-1 to G-10 actively took part in the campaign. To develop the interest in children further, we conducted the following activities spread through the week: 16th April 2017 - Vegetable Salad Day 17th April 2017 - Mixed Fruits Day 18th April 2017 - Sprouts Day 19th April 2017 - Pulse Feast 20th April2017 - Fruit of the U.A.E Day10 PIONEER - April 2017

The Kingdom of Wonder I always wanted to visit the United Kingdom for many reasons but this trip was way beyond exciting as it was the best thing that happened to me! It was a dream come true. All the places were so historical and fascinating - Scotland, Edinburgh, Stratford-upon-Avon, London, Oxford, Kensington, Durham, Washington – the list seems never ending. In spite of not being a history buff, I could remember the birth date of William Shakespeare because I loved his house and the room in which the great playwright was born.12 PIONEER - April 2017

We also visited the Christ Church College, King’s College and DurhamUniversity. If I ever get an opportunity to study or work in the UK, I would grab it asthough it was my life. I am glad I didn’t miss this trip which will be cherishedall my life. The fun and jokes along with the memories created, are all worthgold.PIONEER - April 2017 Aditya Mahtre (G12-B) 13

Abu Dhabi Reads A follow-up session on various activities related to ‘Abu Dhabi Reads’ took place on 16th April ’17 at The Rotana Park Hotel with an interactive session headed by Ms. Kareema Almazroy - Executive Director, School Education Sector. The presentation on the Performance Indicators of ‘Abu Dhabi Reads 2017’ was pretty interesting. A workshop which followed was based on the story ‘The Cat in the Hat’, the metaphor to the legacy of Dr. Seuss. This story dealt with several competencies such as Independent Thinking, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Team Work and Communication. The workshop helped us explore innovative activities as well as creative teaching techniques. Etedal Abu Nemeh General Coordinator-Dept. of Arabic/ Islamic Education16 PIONEER - April 2017
