I realize that everyone is busy. I realize that for manyprovide the services. But it is often during the most of you, the idea of getting involved in NCE is just “onechallenging times when we rediscover that The Arc is truly more thing” on a never-ending to-do list. But the morea family – and families stick together and support each people that get involved, the stronger and more vibrantother. we will be. Looking Ahead to 2018 The devastating impact of the potential cuts to or the elimination of critical programs and services that support people with I/DD to live healthy, safe, and fully-included lives in their communities elevated our collective advocacy efforts to a level of intensity not seen in recent years. The advocacy “forecast” for 2018 points to another year of engaging in the “fight of our lives.” NCE will continue its work of providing outstanding professional development for leaders of chapters of The Arc, but with an added “lens” of what it takes to further activate our grassroots networks and build strong coalitions. NCE will continue: • Its in-depth “think tank” discussions that shape the activities of The Arc and NCE; • Offering leadership development and networking opportunities through the Summer Leadership Institute(SLI) in Philadelphia and Professional Development Seminar (PDS)in Nashville that help leaders adapt to change and thrive during challenging times • To raise money through the silent auction to offer scholarships to current and next-generation leaders; • To develop useful content for training purposes through The Arc Connection; • To offer ways to connect with other chapter leaders through the Google groups and other online platforms; and • To explore new ways to engage chapter leaders and provide mentorship opportunities. The year ahead will be full of challenges. Together, we can weather the storm and emerge a stronger and more unified force for advancing the rights of people with I/DD. NCE is committed to providing chapters leaders with the tools they need to thrive even during difficult times. Take a chance and see what NCE has to offer for your staff – you won’t be disappointed!
