hamptonhub Don't Expect 50% You may sadly be in the middle of a relationship breakup where the main asset for sharing between you is the family home. Different considerations apply if you are not married which, simply put, if you are not a joint legal owner of the property you call home, it will be very hard to establish a right to sharing any of the equity. But assuming you are married, when it doesn’t matter if a spouse is on the title of the family home or not, the proportion of the equity for sharing is not automatically going to be 50% each. There are often good reasons why a wife who has the care of young children needs a larger proportion of the equity of the family home on sale. Also issues can arise about one of the spouses claiming a larger share of the house because they contributed a larger share of the purchase price. Whether such a claim is valid depends on a number of factors such as the length of the marriage, the amount invested in the property by the party in question and how long ago that happened. There may even be a deed of trust signed by the parties which set out their intentions. The moral of the tale is therefore, as usual, seek specialist advice from a family lawyer about the fairest way to share the major assets in a marriage, rather than a DIY and probably regretting it later. ts Certified Public Accountants Hybrid & Distance Working s with and ears. timeout LEARN TO SING FOR FREE WITH HEREWARD HARMONY There are many men who would love to sing. Most never get around to it, don’t have the opportunity, or may be too self-conscious to give it a go. The simple fact is that just about everyone can sing, so what could be better than a free course that will help you discover your voice? We are running a ‘Learn to Sing’ Course at the Orton Wistow Community Centre, PE2 6XN. Hereward Harmony is a well-established male Barbershop Chorus who sing in traditional four-part close harmony. Consisting of bass, baritone, lead and tenor, anyone can find a part to suit their voice. We normally sing a wide range of numbers but during the course we will concentrate on a few songs to achieve good progress. The course will be each Thursday from 7.30pm to 9.00pm from the 6th of October to the 3rd of November 2022. You do not have to read music and will sing a part alongside at least one of our experienced singers who will help and encourage you. Our talented young musical director will also help with each individual part in addition to ensuring that the overall timing, pitch and musicality reach a high standard. The first part of the evening will concentrate on developing the new singers and songs. There will then be a break for free refreshments after which our chorus will sing some of our repertoire as a further guide to what we do. You will also receive sheet music and teach tracks that will allow you to practice during the week. We are a friendly and sociable chorus and can promise that you will enjoy the experience. It doesn’t matter whether you are new to singing or can already sing but are looking for a different style of music. Progress will be rapid and you may be surprised at how sweet the sound of a four-part harmony is. Reserve your place now by ringing Alan Lund on 07850 007057 and visit us at https://www.facebook.com/HerewardHarmony 12 Hampton Gazette | September 2022 | E: [email protected] | www.hamptongazette.co.uk
