The villagers, however, believes that Wallee’s mother is not sick but actually possessed by a demonic spirit, and they try to test her by putting thorny branches under her mattress. When the teacher asks the students to write an essay, Wallee writes one about her mother. When she goes out to read it in front of the class, poor Wallee chokes and sobs as she narrates her life story. That’s when Teacher Yupin understands everything. The school contacts the social service office, and they come to visit Wallee’s house, and the girl’s heroic struggle attracts reporters and newspaper headlines. At that point, however, Wallee’s mother has become so ill because she hasn’t had a proper treatment. When Wallee has received a donation from kind-hearted people, she rushes to the hospital with the hope that she can save her mother. 97 97
