THE LESSON OF FRIENDSHIP Written by Matvey Sotnikov, 4 “A” (Lomonosov Gumnasium)

Once upon a time there were two littlesquirrels that lived in the green, lush andbeautiful forest. They were called Pryg andSkok. They were best friends. Pryg and Skokwere always playing and walking together. Theyloved to go for a walk to the lovely river or toclimb a high tree and watch forest’s life.Pryg and Skok did everything together! One day Grandmother sent a whole bagof nuts to Pryg. He was happy. The nuts werevery tasty. Pryg thought that if he shared nuts with his friends, he would get very few nuts. He was very hungry, and nuts smelled so tasty, that he decided to share with no one and to eat everything by himself.

Pryg hid a bag of nuts in the hollow of the oldtree. Every day he went there alone and atenuts. No one knew about his “nest egg”. When all the nuts were eaten, Pryg decidedto throw an empty bag from the hollow. Hethrew it and ran away. At that time Skok ran in the forest nearby. He found this bag. But the bag was not emptyat all, at the bottom there were two nuts, whichPryg did not notice. Skok took these two nuts, carefully wrapped them in a handkerchief andran to look for Pryg. Finally, Skok met a friend. He said to him:\"Look what I’ve found! Let's divide these nutsand eat them together!\" Skok handed one nutto Pryg. Pryg was ashamed. He ate a whole bagof nuts and did not share them with anyone, andSkok has two small nuts and he shares them.

Pryg blushed and said to Skok: \"Eat them byyourself, you have found these nuts, so youshould eat them!\" But Skok insisted: \"You aremy best friend! How can I eat delicious nutsalone, without you? Take it immediately!\" Prygtook a nut because he did not want to offendSkok with his refusal. They ate those two nutstogether, after that Pryg told Skok: \"Thankyou, Skok, for the tasty nut and for the lessonof friendship!\" From that day Pryg stopped being greedyand always shared with his friends.
