JUNIOR SENATE NEWSLETTER VOLUME 5 OCTOBER, 2021

“Entrepreneur”- What image do you get in your mind when you think of this word? Perhaps, of an adult man/woman successfully managing a business venture or a startup. How about I tell you, a boy who is just 16 years old is an entrepreneur and truly bringing a change in the traditional as well as online teaching methods with an edtech market place called Online Live Learning founded by him. I am delighted to interview this brilliant person, Shreyaan Daga. Shreyaan Daga Q- What were your dreams or goals when you were a child? A- I grew up in a family full of entrepreneurs and I’ve always been taught that you have to solve problems and resolve them. So, my dream, when I was small and it still is, to donate one trillion dollars to the education system. Keep such a goal that looks impossible to achieve and that is what I’ve always been taught to do so. Q- What was the inspiration behind the idea of starting this? A- My mother asked me once, “Do you want to remain average throughout your life”? When she was looking at my report card and seeing C grades and D grades. I stared into her eyes so deeply and said, “No, I don't want to remain average”. So, I started looking at the things more deeply now. I told my parents that I want to learn about the stock market, marathon running, Crypto currency and Psychology. They started looking for the teachers. Finding the teacher whom would I like was another task. Then we witnessed covid and millions of teachers lost their jobs. It was really scary for education as teachers were removed from the equation of learning. The videos were not interactive as I could not rely on a video to solve my problem. That’s when I realized, that we need to create something new.

Q- Did you ever get the feeling of giving up? A- Yes, multiple times. It happens because no one is always perfect as no one can be perfect. You will make mistakes. At a point, some team members were leaving, revenue was low and enrollments were less so I was at that stage where I felt like, this is a rock bottom. It was like life or death for OLL. But then the hope of that vision that we want to get there and this is what we want to be - We want to be on every person's phone, an app which is pre-downloaded. So that kind of thing keeps on giving us the hope, to get up, and the fire keeps on getting warmed up. Q- What are your future plans? As of now, all the future I can think of is today. So what am I going to do today, I know. I keep a goal but not a plan to reach the goal. I have one simple goal to donate 1 trillion dollars and become a philanthropist. After that, nothing else really matters to me. All that I know is , god will help me, the universe will help me to achieve that goal. So, I just plan for today, how am I going to make this day count and how am I going to remember this day. That’s the only thing I plan. Q- What would you advise the children who dream of becoming an entrepreneur like you? A- I don’t have any advice, I just have a friendly suggestion. One is, don’t become an entrepreneur just because everyone is becoming an entrepreneur, become an entrepreneur when you see a problem and you want to solve that problem and you are really willing to give up something to solve that problem. The second thing is to dream big and think out of the box. Start dreaming big from now! There is no time to waste. Time is moving so fast that all you have to do is to start. And all you need to do is keep that moment up. Just keep on going. Don’t take this as a motivational talk, take it as a reflection talk. Reflect on what you really like. Reflect on what you really want to do and then just do it.

“What if….. SARS-CoV-3 comes” The worldwide pandemic has shaken the earth from its roots. The current ongoing catastrophes are the ones which were highly unpredictable. I was just reading about the current pandemic, when a thought hit my mind “What if….. SARS-CoV-3 comes”.The sparks of curiosity in my mind ignited and I started to wonder what if the SARS-CoV3 hits the world. The SARS-CoV-3 will definitely prove to have a higher level of disastrous effects as compared to COVID-19. The maintenance of precautionary measures by the public would also prove to be another challenge. The protocols will have to be followed again. Right from Genome sequencing to studying every parameter. The current vaccine developed will fail and demand one more revision or probably a complete new version and yet the distribution of vaccine would be another challenge. There will be yet another lockdown affecting everything right from trades, growth ,development, advancements etc.The economic growth of the country will be of highest concern. The struggle for survival will increase. My memorable trip to South Africa My father surprised us with his plan to visit South Africa. We all were very excited and started our preparations. Finally the big day arrived and we boarded the flight. Almost after 20 hours of travelling in the air our flight landed to Cape Town. The scenic drive to our hotel was truly breathtaking. My hotel room was full of amenities and well decorated. On the second evening two robbers in the happening and crowded long street of Cape Town tried to rob us. This incident was a very frightful moment. In Cape town we saw Cape of Good hope, Table Mountain, the Wine lands. We also visited the world's highest bridge bungee jumping which was of height 216 meters from sea level. Sadly I was not allowed to experience this thrill. We also visited cities like Cairo, Sun city , Johannesburg. We did electrifying ostrich ride. We experienced Jungle safari .It was 2 days trip in the jungle. Freely roaming animals mesmerized me a lot .I fed giraffe. The only Traffic jam we encountered was herd of elephants blocking the road. Our jeep got stuck in the lion zone which was deadly. Later we came to know that our driver was mocking and we took a deep breath.I walked with lion’s cub. Suddenly one cub jumped on me and all trainers rushed towards me to aid me .As we are pure vegetarian we faced problem in finding vegetarian meals. I can't describe my 12 days trip in one page. But must say, this trip was the most memorable one.It was an eventful, adventurous, exciting, thrilling, scary, wonderful and last but not the least unforgettable trip. We came back to India but South Africa was not gone from my mind for many days.

International Literacy Day As rightly said by William Clinton, “Literacy is not a luxury; it is a right and a responsibility.” International Literacy Day is observed on September 8 worldwide to mark the importance of literacy and to remind that literacy is our right. On this special occasion, organizations and individuals take charge and use their literacy to encourage and assist those who are facing difficulties on how to read and write. Students and employed people volunteer to tutor children in the community, books are generously donated to libraries, and a student’s tuition and learning are sponsored to launch their life-long success. India has come a long way in its 75 years of independence in terms of literacy. In 1947, the country's literacy rate stood at a meagre 12%, while the same stands at 77.7%. In India, any person over seven years who can read and write is considered literate. Kerala is the most literate state, with over 93 per cent of its population falling under the literate bracket. The National level function to celebrate 54th International Literacy Day was organized by Ministry of Education on September 8, 2020 through online mode.

Online schooling in Rural areas Many teachers and students in rural areas are not able to match up to the technical skills of educationalists and students in cities. To ensure learning continuity for students who live in remote villages with no or poor internet connectivity during the lockdown, the Maharashtra state education department is now using electronic media like television and radio to reach out to them. The department has booked two slots each for two hours per day in Doordarshan to telecast lectures for students. At the same time, audio lectures will be broadcasted through radio. The initiative will not only help students who are staying in rural areas with no internet connection but also for the visually-impaired students to access the syllabus. Online schooling in Urban areas Over the course of Covid -19 pandemic, some districts have provided fully remote learning, while some have provided in- person learning. Most districts have cut instructional time, but many are offering extra services. More than half of urban districts, about seven in ten are offering tutoring and increased social and emotional learning programming. District spending is the same or rising, although enrolment is declining. Many districts have hired rather than fired school staff in 2020-21. Lastly, I would like to share a few ideas that Euro School, Airoli has adopted during this pandemic. Euro School has designed an application named Argus@Home to fulfil students’ requirements in terms of education during the pandemic. Examinations are carried out through this app smoothly. Apart from studies, the school is also keen about extra-curricular activities like art, music, yoga and many more. Children are also given opportunities to take part in various competitions on the online platform.

INTERNET OF THINGS [ IOT ] An internet connection is a wonderful thing, it give us all sorts of benefits that just weren’t possible before. The point is that connecting things to the internet yields many amazing benefits. We have all seen this benefits with our smartphones, laptops and tablets. But this is true for everything else too. And yes, I do mean everything.IOT is actually a pretty simple concept. It means taking all the things in the world and connecting them to the internet. Everything from your toothbrush, geyser, microwave, fridge, air conditioner, washing machine, to your safety door, connected to the internet 24x7. Your all gadgets will become household aides, each chatting with one another, working to serve you better. IOT devices contain sensors and mini computer processors that act on the data collected by the sensors via machine learning. It is what makes IOT devices smart. Devices are growing smaller and smarter. Top devices in the market like smart mobiles, smart watches, smart door lock, smart bicycle, fitness tracker, smart fire alarm, smart security system, etc, are few examples of IOT products. Voice assistants like Siri and Alexa make our home smart. Security devices monitoring your home, turning lights on and off as you enter and exit rooms, streaming videos so you can check in while you are away. IOT can assist in the smarter control of homes and cities via mobile phones. It is useful for safety because it senses any potential danger and warns users. Thus, IOT wants to connect all potential objects to interact each other on the internet to provide secure, comfort life for human. IOT makes our world as possible as connected together.IOT is designed to make our lives more convenient. Convenience is good, but connectedness can also open the door to cyber criminals. Consider some of the potential risk of IOT and what if someone hacks your IOT security cameras and watches your every move, it’s smart to help ensure these connections stay safe and secure.
