New Beginning (Project Development) As the title says the task that was given is to do with a new beginning. The class sat round the table defining the word “new” and “beginning” which was to help us generate ideas. As to help visualize the ideas we sketched them out as how we would like our outcomes to be like and so we can help each other out if stuck on ideas. We were required to make 3 outcomes which have to be different from each other such as doing a typography based one, photography based, illustration based and so on which has to be presented for next week. But I will be planning to show the 3 that I have made so I can get feedback on each work and what could be done to improve them. I had an Idea on how I would do the “Monday/Friday” piece because everyone looks through their window at least once a day in the morning and it’s a new beginning for them to try something new and be a new person that is why the background have a different view from within the week. But for the hands I seen You-tubers help homeless people out and holding hands and helping each other up was like something new and not much you see everyday and it’s a new beginning for the people so that’s what really inspired me to do that piece with one hand in the light where as the other hand is in the dark being pulled out with the help of a fellow citizen. And for the Typography I just wrote the word “People” and as we know people come in different skin tones so I applied that within the typography but from that alone people can tell what it is but I think it needed a little push so I added some features/accessories to show the kind of people you will meet within your life and it’s a new time and new beginning each day for it. In the presentation we had the class vote on whether it meets the brief criteria and does it work, as well as which istheir favourite because I have 2 alternatives for 2 of the pieces so I got the classrooms vote for the most effective one. This is a good way to help future Graphic Designers on how totake criticism from someone and turn it into something positive. Majority of the class like the typography with the features and it seem the hand photography piece was moreeffective with out the writing because a picture says a lot on it’s own. Lastly the piece which I think was the most effective in my opinion is because of the message, colours, alignment , text and the viewing as if your staring out the window. When you see “Monday” in one window with the dark, cold look to it and “Friday” in the other with an eveningsunset background it says a lot about new beginnings as to where you can be with in matter of days. The colours in the back I think play a big role in this because they’re what givesit the new beginning feel but if it were the same background but Monday and Friday written on both piece it would have a new day to it but wouldn’t feel the same as newbeginning which has more impact on the work. Aligning the text on the window with each is important as to the person standing and viewing from the same point of view with thetext blending with the rain marks on the window as if someone really wrote it with their fingers, also it can be seen as a photo diary in some sort of way because your diary has yourjourney written in it and every day is a new beginning. And a new journey is a new beginning for everyone.

Timeline (Context & Cultures) This is a timeline that I have created after looking at different timelines that has movements from 1900 to the year 2000. Instead of having the timeline going horizontally I decided to have mine going vertically. I had to space out the number evenly and by placing the number 1950 in the middle it made it easier as to whether the Top half and the bottom are equally aligned. From the website we looked at there were various movements to choose from so we chose five movements that would fill the timeline from 1900 to 2000 even if the movements are overlapping each other. Each movement had it’s own colour which I have put the colours on the rectangles coming downwards with the movements written on top of them which was on the right side of the timeline and a well know artist who belongs to that movement on the left hand side. From the five movements chosen we had to do some research on them which may help when decide to choose a movement that we will be Focusing on when it is time to do the 1000 word essay. And by looking at the timeline it kind of reminds me of some sort of rocket.

Objective Writing (Project Development)For this brief it more photography based to making a word and creating the alphabet based ona theme. For my word I made the word “Evolve” and the reason I chose that word is becauseeveryday things are evolving from technology to babies to teens to adults and other things likethe environment. The classroom where I learn has definitely evolved compared what you mightfind in a classroom 100 years ago. And I tried to make the link with my surrounding with theletters. What I have taken a picture of is the ceiling of the classroom, phone, speaker, table’sleg, edge of a table and a radiator. which combine together to make the word “Evolve” it maybe hard to see because of the different lighting in each photo which was taken from differentangles where the light might not hi as much. The letter “E” is not as visible because of theblending with the ceiling but I tried messing about with the contrast and brightness in AdobePhotoshop to bring out the letter as much as possible. And the other “E” was difficult in termsof not trying to capture the inside of the radiator but I think keep all the lines above it is a goodway of cancelling it out even though it may not exactly look like the letter “E”. Having the linesgoing horizontally helps with the 3 lines you would get in the letter “E” and I’m sure the wordcan be read as a whole if you can tell what the other letters say. I like what I had as an idea butit would have looked better if a range of other objects were used to see which may fit well witheach other and I believe it was kind of rushed so for one thing for me to reflect on is tosometimes take my time with photography or just things in general. The 2nd part of the brief was to make the alphabet and I decided to make it from what I see ona day to day basis inside my house. It’s self explanatory of the pictures that I have taken. Somemay not be as easy to read compared to the others but the whole alphabet is there. I thought itwould be easy to find all the images but I must admit it did take me quite a while which isanother thing I think I expect to find everything quickly but don’t expect how time flies by ormaybe I need to improve on my time management skills. I like how their is different materialswithin the images but the images are different sizes because if I were to make them all thesame size they will lose their form as a letter also because I have taken them from differentangles and positions to make them the letter that they are. If I reflect from the brief that I havedone I would say first explore your surroundings because you may find better images elsewhere, take multiple shots of the same one till you are satisfied to the best it can be and planahead of what I am going to do within different briefs that are given to me.

Faces in places (Project Development)The name of this brief is called “Faces in places”. This photography based brief which was given to see what kind of faces in places we can find. I havealways seen things with faces but didn’t think too much of them but looking at some them they are pretty interesting and some are quite funny. The mostcommon face you will see is on light switch but I have found on the stairs, wall and on my cupboard. There are some faces that I have probably missed outon like cars, doors, radiator and trees as well as other stuff but these are just some. I’m not really into photography and that is probably because I’m notgood at it so I was a bit hesitant to doing this brief but on the positive side I have found some faces in places and my favourite one has to be the one the topright because it looks funny with it’s tongue sticking out I also like the switch at the bottom because it has duck lips but my least favourite is the one on thetop left because it has 2 eyes and I tried to use the little writing on the radiator as the nose but it doesn’t stand well compared to the other images so that ismy reason. I would like to compare images with my peers and discuss where we have found the images and which is our favourite one and our leastfavourite also giving a reason why.

Found Poems (Project Development)The 2nd brief was Found Poems and the task was to make 5 different pieces of work using poems. For each of them different medias were used to create them. The 5 types we had to create were Concrete, Pop out, Black out, Haiku and Cut out. It was really fun trying make your own poems with books and newspaper thatwere given to you and great way to try something you haven’t done before even though some may say “I could do that” but they never try it themselves. It’s goodpractical work which will help with our mind-set about trying things we know we can do but we don’t do it because who knows you might be able to apply whatyou have learnt and done with other techniques and equipment/tools. I think the work itself is really strong but with photography skills like mine it doesn’t do itthe justice to bring it out to it’s full potential also I believe that I would need so kind of what background for these work to stand out but since these were takeninside of my house it was a difficult task to find a place with where I can place it so I would develop these poems in to digital versions which I personally think arestronger because the black and white used are really strong compared to the blackness in the manual versions & I could add white/black boarders around themand adjust it to my liking and undo any mistakes which is the perks of doing it digitally. The colour scheme within the works are black and white but the digitalcut has the word “story” in red and the other text black and white background which is the same limited colours used by the Bauhaus movement. Next time Ithink to make more of a variety of outcomes it would be best to research other pieces of work and will they work with current task at hand.

Found Poems (Digital) (Project Development) These are the digitized version of my 5 poems which were to do with the brief “Found Poems” were all done in Adobe Photoshop. As you can see the theme I was going for was black and white with a borderline that’s either black and white depending on the work itself, there is only one colour of red which would stand out and is in the center of the poster. They are quite simple but sometimes I prefer simple work and I don’t think going too complex will go with the brief. My personal favourite is the pop out and least favourite is the Haiku. The reason why the Haiku is my least favourite is because the words that have the impact with that poem have a black rectangle stoke around them but other than that it looks plain even though I said going complex won’t work with the poems and simplicity is better but then again what can do simple enough to make a Haiku pop out that would match well the poster style that I was going for. The wolf poster needs to be improved in terms of the words flowing to match it’s figure because the words used to shape the wolf look a bit stiff and blocky and to make it pop out a bit more I could have used a background with a white moon and black background with the wolf being grey it would have like a no saturation look to it which might have looked good. I will say why the pop out is my favourite but how I got the idea was from an anime where the character has swords coming out from the ground with a black background and the strips that were sticking out from the handmade piece from my perspective reminded me of the swords and so when we can to digitally I did a black background with white concrete area where the poem line will pop out from with them being black and white text but as the strips go towards the background they seem to disappear so I added a white stoke to them so you see the strips and they blend with the floor which is white anyway and it worked well together.

UCO Designs (Creative Industries)These are logo designs for the UCO website that I have created using Adobe Photoshop. As you can see I havecreated 3 alternative versions of the same design so people can have an opinion in which is the best one and whatcould be removed or added to improve the design. For me personally I like the 1st design as it has simple text, thelogo and some pixels coming out from the side which could represent the pixels you get on Adobe Photoshop. As forthe other design with the triangular shapes that are on the side, I have used the colours which have been used onthe UCO logo. And the 2nd design which has a mixture of both the 1st and 3rd design and which I think is theweakest design of the 3. Within the upcoming weeks I plan on doing more designs to do with invitations toevents, UCAS website and open days. These could change depending on which I think might need a new design orif I need to create more UCO website designs.

Website Design (UCO) (Creative Industries)The brief given for this task was to design websites such as UCAS and the UCO website. The UCO website that I havedesigned have only some alterations to them because I personally think there doesn’t need to be a whole newdesign to it. The buttons at the top have changed colours to coordinate the UCO logo. Whilst adding a Facebooksection with a like button but I wasn’t really fond of having a big like button there so I changed it to the Facebookpage where they could sign up and like. The image usually changes but having an image that doesn’t change canhelp students get familiar to the website’s look. “Click for more” button has been put to the right side aligned withthe “What’s new section”. The details such as the campus address ,email and phone number have been compressedwith the design so students don’t have scroll down and everything is there for them all in one page.

Website Design (UCAS) (Creative Industries)For the UCAS design I had a look at the their website and I thought everything was spread which is usually a good thing. But for students it’s best if they can see everything inone page, with it’s own symbol and colours. The website has colours of the Russian Constructivism movement but lacks the colour Black and the colour blue is unnecessary inmy opinion if the website has the colours of Russian Constructivism. So I might at as well use the movement’s style also because it’s the movement I plan on using more. Thesocial media buttons and logos were placed at the top to catch the audiences eyes because on the other tab one of those is most likely opened. I decided to use triangles toseparate it from the other buttons but changed the last 2 triangles to red for “Log in & Register” to make it stand out from the other buttons which Grey and Black. They’remost likely to register or log in because one those will used so then the later use the website for their purpose. The “key dates” “Events” “Blogs” have been aligned in themiddle with other information below it which have been spaced out evenly. “Check your course deadline” is aligned to right of the information below whilst some majorevent news are displayed on the left in bigger text for student who are interested. Rest of the information below have all just been compressed with everything else into onepage so there’s no hassle of scrolling up and down for what they’re looking for. White text is used on the dark colour such Black and Grey whilst Red and Black are used onWhite or Red background. The reason I decided to do that was so colours that compliment each other can be sued together to make it look more appealing. I’m not sure ifother older movements would have worked or if the triangles should have been replaced with a different shape. But overall I’m happy to have used Russian Constructivism asmy influence which benefited me as the website colours are pretty much the same and I’m pleased about that.

Creative CV (Creative Industries)For this task I was asked to create a creative CV. I had done the original CV that you would see if you were an employer. So the influence for my creative CV wasthe movement Russian Constructivism. The movement used basic shapes and limited colours. I slightly changed the look of the original CV by having thequalifications and education placed in the centre whilst making sure they look symmetrically placed. I kept the background white with some red and blackscalene/equilateral triangles. There would be red text on any white areas whilst if the text lapped over a Red triangle the colour would be black for the specifictext within the triangle. Same rule applies to when the text laps over a black triangle which would change the text colour to white within that specific area. Thestyle follows the movement I have chosen with shapes not to complex and the original colour schemes which I think worked really well in this piece of work. If Ihad to make another version I would simple use the same piece but invert the colours which would make it into a darker piece of work.

Wolf poem gif (Creative Industries)This brief had to do with gifs but this piece of work is linked to one of my found poems which had the shape of a wolf so Idecided to a gif of it where the wolf is near a cliff and the moon behind which seems to be popular a image when peoplevisualise a wolf sitting somewhere. So I decided to make the gif really short and simple where the wolf would just grow biggerwithin the frames of the Gif and the reason why I wanted to do that was because I wanted to show the growth of the wolf. I’mnot entirely sure if it relates to the poem but it does mention these words in the poem “outside, hears, singing and ghost”which can also be the wolf outside hears the ghost singing which is just words that I’ve found and made it have a meaningbehind out of no where kind of like a Haiku poem. I have made a smoother cliff but I personally think the one with the edgylook to it is better.

Gifs (Design Business & UCO) (Creative Industries)This gif was done for future business even though it doesn’t look This gif is a quick, simple and easily done besides someperfect I could look at it as a test subject and come out with a difficulties I had. The intention for this gif was to createimproved version of it in the future. The “MBM” are the initials to my something simple and nothing complex that may crashfull name I chose the colour Blue for the letter B as it’s one of my the file. I decided make the University Campus Oldhamfavourite colour. And for the letter M I chose the colour Black because in the colours of the logo whilst the initials for theit’s my other favourite colour and has a strong look to it when with the university was in black. Above that the logo is placedcolour Blue in the middle. The word “Design” is in Red simply because and they all emerge from the white background whilstthe more I use and see that colour the more I like it and it’s loving the logo has the tinniest of pixilation at the beginningcolour which would describe my love for Graphic Design. The gif is to give it a little pop. I’m happy the gif came out how Ivery simple with the initials in the middle whilst the “Design” comes exactly wanted it to but if I were to changed one thingacross to make “MBM DESIGN”. I was having trouble making this as for an alternative version it would be the text to allthe seconds wouldn’t last how long I wanted it also other technical black.difficulties but due to them reason I think it turned out OK.

Dream Shedding (Project Development)This brief was given by a client which I had to make a theatre poster for the performing arts. To get a good knowledge of what we would we be producing we had to read the poem “The Dream Shedding” which weinterpreted in our own way and I came to the conclusion of kids who have dreams which pretty much turn to ashes to be like a slave to the village just like the elders who put in to the kids minds that they will be likethem and no dream comes to reality but it also mentions they pretty much stop believing in God and I believe it might hint at something when they never go near the church and how it looks dark. I think there maysome kind of meeting going in the church formed by the elders. Now from the information that I have gathered it was time to vision how I would lay it out for the posters and what visuals will be shown within theposters.I have gathered research on theatre posters and have pinned them on my Pinterest but out of all the posters this one stood out to me the most because it’s the style of work I like and would like to do because Ipersonally think it has the silhouette type of work “Rob Ryan” does but I’m using this style with the limited colour pallets of the movement “Russian Constructivism” which consists of the colours red, black and white .I decided to do a range of posters and so the client could choose the best one to her liking. Instead of having the silhouette navy blue I made mine black with white stroke around them so you can see the figure of theelder from the village who has no face revealed as we do not know what they look like but the beard and clothing on the should is my own interpretation of what the village elder might look like. The reference imagehas a light sandy colour for the background but I used white so the information can go on top of it which will be in black and stand out but also I didn’t put a borderline because it would have cut of the church and thegravestone or I would have to shrink them which I didn’t want to do. For the title I used the colour red as it seems a powerful colour also because this poem kind of has some darkness to it which the red could workreally well with the black colour behind it but it just so happens to reference image has used the colour red. I made 2 versions of the poster the first one hand coming out from the dark like a puppeteer controllingsomeone in this case it would be controlling the people within the village but for the 2 version there was a slight change as to the hand position holding the kids of the village who are silhouetted and once again thereare almost fully silhouetted people on the reference image. The 3rd poster has the background colour black and white nets which has been cut in a certain section and flipped to make it the image that you are looking at now. The title which is in white has been aligned at thetop left doesn’t really interfere with the nets because the nets are quite thin and brightness is quite low compared to the text used. A thin black line has been place under the title going horizontally with white text ofthe author above it and the thick black like near the bottom has information on the event with the UCO logo at the right. The composition of the text for author and his work at the top and the poem being performedby students at UCO at the bottom has a nice touch to it.I am happy with the range of outcomes that I have produces within that day because it shows I can produce outcomes by the deadline and the amount of time given which shows I am improving on my timemanagement skills as well showing I serious about getting the work done. If I had try and change anything it would to experiment more with research and apply it within the work even it doesn’t go as planned it’shaving the idea behind it that counts which can probably used in the next attempt when trying a different style or just simply changing colours. If I reflect on what I have done I would say I enjoyed this brief and have arange of outcomes just like the “New Beginning” brief & one other thing I am pleases about is that I have stepped out of my comfort zone to use the pen tool which I have applied within this task and it paid off bywatching videos at home and trying it out for myself, getting used to the tool and by understanding it more.
