Building Vocabulary With This Book This book contains eight key words that are important for all children to know. Read the story straight through for enjoyment. Then read it again, pausing to define and discuss each key word. Follow-up the tale with the fun activities on pages 14–16. When you’re done, celebrate—kids will have added eight great words to their vocabularies! “Wake up, Fin,” called Mrs. Pool. “Today is your first day of school!”

Vocabulary Questions school words Listen to the question. Think about it. Then answer. 1 Do you have a backpack? What do you put in it?  When is it a good idea to be silent? Make a list.  What do you like to do after you finish your homework? Tell about it.  What is one rule that you know about safety?  Which activities are easy to concentrate on? Which are hard?  How many students are in your class? What are their names?  Why is it a good idea to cooperate with your friends? Talk about it.
